UWSP's schedule has been posted.

http://athletics.uwsp.edu/schedule.aspx?path=mbball

There are 10 non con games. Am I right that this is one fewer than the maximum (14 conference plus 10 non-con)?

And no SNC as previously reported.

Seems like they have a spot the first week of December if anyone's interested in heading to Wisconsin in the winter; they might take offers.

Maybe Coach Semling should give Silver Lake a call. Silver Lake is NAIA now, and NAIA has a 32-game limit. Silver Lake only has 31 games scheduled, including a mere four in December. Manitowoc and Stevens Point are only two hours apart.

St. Norbert is remodeling its gym this year. The Green Knights will be using UWGB's gym, so their access to open home dates is obviously constrained by that. Perhaps UWSP will make its return visit to DePere in the 2017-18 season.
They are actually using two of UWGB's gymnasiums, the Kress Center and the Phoenix Sports Center.

And yes, UWSP is scheduled to make their return trip to SNC during the 2017-18 season....

Maybe I am wrong, but in the back of my mind I kind of remember something about the MWC only allowing 24 regular season games? Maybe I am confusing them with someone else. I also thought, they had gotten rid of that rule... so who knows.

I think the norm had been 23. But, as you said, I believe the conference laxed on that rule.

The MWC regular-season limit is 23 games, not 24, and to my knowledge that rule has not changed.

What has changed for the MWC in recent years is a relaxing of the league's self-imposed recruiting restrictions that were above and beyond D3 requirements. In the past, the Midwest Conference was noteworthy for not allowing off-campus recruiting of student-athletes. That was changed back in 1999, but those off-campus contacts were restricted to sites of competition, clinics, camps, college fairs, and similar public events. No home-visit recruiting was allowed until the MWC finally relented and changed that rule in 2012. However, the league's coaches are currently restricted to 25 home-visit days per sport. D3 in general has no such restriction, and, as far as I know, no other D3 league has a similar in-house rule limiting home-visit recruiting, although some individual schools might.

The main area of in-house restrictions for MWC schools remains scheduling, which has been true for decades. At least in the ball sports MWC schools play regular-season schedules with fewer contests than D3 allows. MWC men's and women's basketball, as I said, are restricted to 23 regular-season games per year rather than the D3 maximum of 25, and MWC baseball teams can only play 36 regular-season games instead of the 40 permitted by D3. MWC football is allowed the full ten games allotted by D3, but if any MWC team plays a scrimmage the league considers it to be part of that ten-game allotment.

Checked with one of the coaches in the MWC that I have talked to about this topic (thus my confusion, thoughts earlier). MWC was supposed to move to 25 game schedule, but it has been delayed. Teams will be allowed to play 25 games in season starting in the '17-'18 season.

I think the original plan was this year or next for that to kick in. I wasn't about to ask for why the delay... I can guess. :)

As for why they have a restricted schedule... I never understand the excuses or reasons. Like the NESCAC which won't let their football programs play ten games or play in the post-season... the excuses fly in the face of other sports. But... I'll keep from getting started. LOL

Maybe this was a dumb assumption on my part, but just based off past years I assumed that UWSP would lose a couple players to get closer to that 15-16 player roster.  As of now, everyone is back and all 8 newcomers(4 freshman, 4 transfers) are on the roster.  Will be interesting to see how this new dynamic changes practice and minutes played throughout the season.

Seniors--Freeborn, Unteidt, Gjertson, Retzlaff, Williams
Juniors--Zuiker, Geodeke, Dodge, Delmore, Robinson
Sophomores--Bublitz, Fredrickson, Tauber, O'Heron, Mootz, Nelson
Freshman--Koerner, Ehrke, Knez, Spray

Forgot to mention....This wkd I heard that La Crosse has welcomed in 28 freshman, obviously many of them are walk-ons...but wow

When will WIAC enter into the world of the CCIW and include a limited JV season into their programs to get these folks some PT during a 4 year period   ???

Lot of home games for the Warhawks.

Yeah, that's some favorable scheduling! 8 home games, 1 true away game and 2 neutral court games in Wisconsin Dells.

Based on last year's results, not real impressed with their schedule. Though to be fair, I don't recall Whitewater ever having a daunting nonconference schedule in the past. They really have no marquee games. In addition, they play two teams that finished last in their conference last season. All but 2 opponents of the 11 had double digit losses last year.

Maybe I'm being over critical of their scheduling, but it doesn't seem like they put together a very challenging slate of games.

The Sporting News recently came out with their preseason rankings.  Wisconsin teams in the top 25 include Whitewater at #3 and St Norbert at #5.  I get St Norbert, a sweet 16 team that returns their entire starting lineup.  Whitewater I don't get, atleast in the preseason.  They are definitely a program that just reloads and you can never take them lightly.  But am I missing something having them as a top 5 team??  They had a substandard year for them last year and lose 2 of their best players.  Do they have some big transfers coming in that haven't been announced??

You are giving the Sporting News WAAAAY too much credit for the amount of research they put into this poll. Your previous paragraph was likely twice the effort the Sporting News applied.
