Viterbo has been a poor, to middling NAIA team the past 8-10 years, [...]

And, they have a weak mascot, the V-Hawk.

If I were President, I would rename them the Machine Gun Joes...

One of Stallone's better roles, IMO.

That sounds like Anna Maria, in New England.  They are the Amcats and have some sort of feline mascot, but originally it was an acronym for the extremely original "Anna Maria College Athletic TeamS."

Awesome!

Agreed.  The movie is so terrible, but Stallone is incredible.  His character reminds me of the Marietta guy shooting up the Top 25 thread.

Incidentally, they stop in St. Louis for a pit stop and overnight stay.

I was just thinking the same thing.

Well, the Viterbo V-Hawks name can't be any worse than the original names coming out of the MIAC: St. Thomas Tommies, St. John's Johnnies, St. Olaf Oles, Guatavus Adolpus Gusties...I guess I shouldn't complain. I support the Stevens Point Pointers, but least a Pointer is a dog.

Honestly, I was just looking for an excuse to make that Death Race 2000 reference.

I love the Stevens Point mascot.

There is a precedent here, though not sure where it started. Goucher is the Gophers... because way, way, way back in the day (when it was a all-women's college)... they used to cheer "Go For (It)!" ... kid you not... that's how they got nicknamed the Gophers.

Greek Tragedy

So, after an 0-2 start against St. Olaf and (at the time) #2 CNU, Point has reeled off 3 wins against Lynchburg, Lawrence and Superior...and this was the easy part of the schedule. Starting next weekend, the Pointers play 4 ranked opponents before the end of the calender year. At #15 Hope, at #12 St. Thomas, Edgewood (TRAP GAME!!!!!-like Platteville was to NCC this week), home to #6 NCC and to #17 Augustana.

Statement weekend for the Eagles after La Crosse's clunker at Luther. They play a good Albion who has already beaten preseason #8 Ohio Wesleyan and Mount Union (picked 4th iin the tough OAC). Then they travel to Hope.

Eau Claire heads to St. Louis and will try to outscore Rhodes, who coughs up over 100 pts a game. Should be a fun one to watch. Then they get a potential matchup with Wash U. That would be a huge win...as they already have a win over #10 St. Norbert (preseason #4).

River Falls heads West for some fun in the sun as they battle La Verne on Friday. Not sure if Shirley will be here. Then they take on Redlands on Saturday.

Platteville, coming off their "trap game" win at NCC will try to contain Central's stud Colby Taylor on Saturday. Central is predicted to win the IIAC this year as well.

Oshkosh will try to lick it's wounds after back to back losses to national ranked Benedictine and Augustana as they host Calvin on Saturday.

Stout has more wins (4) than their two previous years (3) so I heard they're just going to end their season now on a good note.

Whitewater continues thier JV schedule next week and, as mentioned before, Point is off until next weekend.

Albion lost to Ohio Wesleyan, 91-77. Also, the Battling Bishops have lost three straight and are now 2-3, so some of the luster has come off of any game played against them, win or loss. I have no doubt that Albion will be a test for UWL, though; the Britons are usually a tough defensive outfit, and they have a knack for junking up a game and making it a win-ugly affair.

Of course Shirley will be there. LaVerne is hosting the Hasenpfeffer, Inc. Classic.

UW-Stout deserves more credit than that. The Blue Devils beat Robert Morris-Chicago, and RMUC is always a pretty tough NAIA customer. UW-Stout also won at Buena Vista, which is never an easy thing to do. The Blue Devils are 4-1, and, looking at the rest of their schedule, they look like a fair bet for 4-2 or so in their remaining six non-con games. If they could then squeak out a couple of WIAC wins, it would mean a double-digit-wins season up in Menomonie.

The WIAC is just 3-5 against ranked opponents (at the time of the game played)

Eau Claire 68 vs #4 St. Norbert 67
River Falls 74 at #10 St. Thomas 65
#2 CNU 71 vs Stevens Point 51
#22 Hope 70 at Stout 50
#22 Hope 90 vs River Falls 81 at Stout
#6 Benedictine 68 at Oshkosh 55
Platteville 57 at #6 North Central 40
#17 Augustana 77 vs Oshkosh 64

7 more chances

LaCrosse at #15 Hope 12/3
Stevens Point at #15 Hope 12/10
#17 Augustana at La Crosse 12/13
Stevens Point at #12 St. Thomas 12/14
#10 St. Norbert at Oshkosh 12/20
#6 North Central (IL) at Stevens Point 12/29
#17 Augustana at Stevens Point 12/31

Thanks for the correction, Greg. I obviously completely misread that. I seem to have a real hard time reading this year!

What's up with La Crosse?  I'm confused.

What do you mean?

La Crosse tops Albion 64-61. Schradle with a double-double.
