Also, I hope people realize that Jack Bennett's comments that this is once again "akin to jay walking" could not be further from the truth. I think Brad Duckworth has made that clear. No rule in the NCAA is minor, but practices out of season and recruiting "tryouts" or practices (compounded by coaches overseeing practices that recruits are in) are a major tent pole in Division III. Those are some of the biggest items that differentiate the division from the rest of the NCAA (though, I understand there could be an argument for the recruiting side of things; however, two proposals to change those rules were overwhelmingly defeated in the last two conventions). Then add in the "failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance" tagged to Bob Semling and a second version clearly pointing to the athletics department on the whole and we are no longer remotely close to "jay walking."

And I hate to say it, but maybe the fact that Bennett considering it jay walking is why UWSP has not been busted twice for essentially the same thing (even if the second time around is even worse). The "atmosphere" to be compliant may very well be anything but for quite some time.

I also read Bennett's jaywalking comment (and recalled a similar comment from the first time around) and thought "you're not helping."

And for the record, I did not say the investigation was ongoing. I'm happy with the story -- it definitely accurately portrays our conversation.

One thing I said that was not used was very similar to what Just Bill Just Said. :)

Also, the "doesn't the NCAA have anything better to do" lament is foolish beyond all belief. Like the police department should stop pulling over speeders as long as there's a single unsolved murder.

I thought the same thing.

I thought that, too. Overall, I don't think that Jack Bennett did the UWSP program any favors by talking to the press. Even though he's retired and probably feels that he's thus immune from saying anything that would have an effect upon how this all shakes out for his former program, I'm not entirely convinced that it'll work out that way.

Totally agree.

Figured you had it right, but in the article they clearly stated it was ongoing when it is not.

Yeah... I hate those arguments. If these things aren't necessary, they wouldn't have enforcement, compliance, investigative, and departments and committees. It just sounds like sour grapes.

And Sager, to make matters worse, Bennett said the same thing per the first time UWSP was caught. But as for thinking he can say anything since it won't affect things... only in his mind.

Yes, I know. That's why I said I thought it was a bad idea for Bennett to talk to the press. He's just giving the Committee for Infractions more grist for the mill.

Point beat Stout 71-68.

SP was up 8 with about 3:40 left and let Stout go on a 9-0 run to take a 64-63 lead. But Point got a bucket and a stop and made free throws.

Stout did hit a 3 to cut it to 70-68 with about 4 seconds. SP hit 1/2 and Stout got a really nice look at a shot to tie, but it didn't go in. I didn't SEE it not go in... Because the camera guy didn't show that basket... But it appeared to carton and then the teams shook hands. Not normally the activity you'd do in a tie game.

Amen to that.

(How much money do you think it would take to bribe ShineTime to announce that the St. Louis Cardinals will be the best baseball team ever next season? ;))

Right now I'd just like him to say that the Dallas Cowboys will win the Super Bowl.

River Falls (13-1, 3-0): 90
WARHAWKS (11-3, 0-3): 74

The WARHAWKS were out shot, out rebounded and out defended. I'm being kind when I say our defense was disappointing. The only thing we did better was taking care of the ball.  Staying within seven points during the first fifteen minutes the WARHAWKS were able to finally forge a tie at 25-25 and followed that with a basket by Chris Jones to take the lead 27-25.  After the Falcons hit a three point basket Scotty Tyler's layup and a free throw from Justin Kurash gave us a second lead at 30-28 but once again the Falcons hit a trey finishing the half with a 9-3 run and led by eight 39-31 when it ended.  Tyler's 8 points led the WARHAWKS and Chris Jones, playing extended minutes for the first time since being injured, chipped in with 6.  The Falcons shot 53%. Their size and rebounding gave them 10-4 and 24-18 scoring advantages in second chance and paint points.  It wasn't far into the second half before the Falcons, shooting 60% for the half, seized a double digit lead which reached a high of seventeen and never fell below ten for the remainder of the game.

Derek Rongstad: 15 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists
Chris Jones: 12 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists
Scotty Tyler: 10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals
Cole VanSchyndel: 9 points, 3 rebounds, 8 minutes  (I have a feeling we may be seeing more of him from here on out)
Andre Brown: 7 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists
Team: 18-7 a:to
