Tomt4525,

I didn't see the game, so I can't comment on the play. It does remind of our 1st National Championship. Kalsow nails that turn around jumper and then somehow Williams has time to throw the ball in, take a few steps and launch a shot that hits the backboard and rims out. My immediate thought was, "how the heck did he have time to do that?" Well, the shot didn't gonin, so who cares?!

The shot was waved off, so even though Crotty almost hit that full court shot, it wouldn't have counted, even if it went in (instead of just bouncing off the rim).

Yeah... there was 0.2 seconds left after Kalsow's shot... Crotty got the ball, but the moment it touched his hands the horn sounded. Everyone in the building knew there was no chance he would hit a shot to win there. The pass would have had to go the entire distance of the court and someone then tip a shot towards the basket for it to count.

Though, remember that Crotty was about 1/3 of the way up the court. The inbounds pass to Crotty wouldn't have any time come off the clock since it stops in the final minute. But no one thought his shot would have counted had it gone in.

I remember him being pretty far up the court. I don't remember them waving it off, but I guess I really didn't care since it didn't go in.

Yeah the inbounds was thrown a third of the way up, by the time he fired it he was nearly to midcourt... but the refs were blowing their whistle immediately and the horn had sounded. If that shot had gone in, it would have been a hell of a shot... but no one was under any impression it would have counted. Happened directly in front of me. I remember it almost as if it happened yesterday.

I felt like he was at about the free throw line out a bit deeper, but there were a bunch of guys in the way on the court. It was on the far side, closer to you than the bench. Either way, heck of a shot, even if it wouldn't have gone.

Re: Bublitz shot... Back in '03-04, we hit half court shots heading into half in both the Sweet 16 and Elite 8.

Put us up 20 against UPS, pulled us within 4 against Lawrence... And remember that the Lawrence game went to OT, so those points  mattered!

Greek Tragedy

If you are a WIAC fan, it's exciting times for you. It seems every game is now big, even with Platteville winless in the conference. The days of Point and Whitewater dominating the conference are long gone, even though it was just 2 years ago Point won the title (please, no stripping of the title comments).

Like the rest of the year, this week looks like a grind for all involved.

River Falls 4-0 (14-1)
The Falcons got two big wins last week. They topped Whitewater in Whitewater before holding off the Pointers at home. River Falls packs their bags this week for a tricky trip to La Crosse and then a showdown at Kolf vs Oshkosh.

Stout 3-1 (12-3)
Probably the surprise team of the conference thus far, the Blue Devils suffered their 1st loss, nearly rallying at Point and then rebounding with a nice win vs La Crosse. Stout will try to keep pace with the league leaders as they head to Zorn tonight and then host a real battle on Saturday vs the Warhawks.

Oshkosh 3-1 (10-5)
The Titans may have been overlooked after going just 7-4 outside of the conference, despite playing a tough schedule. But, as predicted by the preseason poll, Oshkosh is right in the thick of the conference race. The Titans got 2 very nice road wins at Platteville and Eau Claire last week. They get rewarded with some home cooking now as they welcome Whitewater and River Falls this week.

Stevens Point 2-2 (8-6)
The Pointers have handled the recent events very well. They topped Stout at Quandt and then nearly upset conference unbeaten River Falls on the road, losing by just 1. The Dawgs head to Bo Ryan Court tonight before hosting the Blugolds this weekend.

Eau Claire 2-2 (12-3)
The Blugolds finished the nonconference part of their schedule at 10-1, but have gone just 2-2 in conference. The Blugolds topped La Crosse on the road, but then fell to Oshkosh at home. Eau Claire will try to rebound this week, hosting the Blue Devils before heading to Stevens Point.

La Crosse 1-3 (9-6)
After upsetting the Warhawks at Karges, the wheels have fallen off for the Eagles. They lost at home to Eau Claire and then took another "L" up at Johnson Fieldhouse. La Crosse will try to right the ship when they host the unbeaten Falcons and then travel to the winless Platteville on the weekend.

Whitewater 1-3 (12-3)
Shockingly, the Warhawks are already 3 games back of the league leaders. They posted their 1st conference win of the year, but barely, a 2-point win over winless Platteville at home. Before that, they took a loss to River Falls as well. Things don't get any easier with road trips to the Fox Valley and to Menomonie this week.

Platteville 0-4 (7-8)
Despite being winless in conference, the Pioneers showed life by losing by just 2 at Whitewater. They also lost to Oshkosh at home earlier in the week. The Pioneers will try to break into the win column this week as they lost Stevens Point and La Crosse.

Greek Tragedy

Real disappointing loss by the Pointers tonight. They basically led the whole game as I skimmed the boxscore/play by play. I checked my live stats off and on and they had a 12 point lead with about 4 minutes to go in the half. They end up with a 6-point advantage at the break. After Platteville took a 1-point lead about 5 minutes into the 2nd half, Point built a 10-point lead only to be caught again. Point even had a 1-point lead with 1:28 left but a couple of turnovers cost them and they didn't score the rest of the way.

After nearly knocking off River Falls over the weekend, I was hoping for a better result tonight.

Surprised to see Whitewater hammer Oshkosh.
