Re: Oshkosh "shockers".

I'm trying to sell papers!

Anyway, you answered your own question. Because they've lost the games they have...winning on the road to a team that's probably favored to win at home (Whitewater) is an upset/shocker. In addition, you lost at home to them. When you beat teams on the road (Point, La Crosse), you should naturally be favored at home. But, you lose to both of them at home, those are upset losses.

RF over Pville 63-59, but that's not the final score. The feed stopped with about a minute left and all I know is RF won.

Whitewater with another impressive win to their resume.  Hopefully they get dialed in now for the tournament.

Eau Claire lost in OT, but both Augustana AND IWU dropped their 2nd games this week. I think Eau Claire is in, based on the Central Regional Rankings.

Next week, one of the two will get ANOTHER loss just in the regular season as they play each other Tuesday.

Eau Claire (18-7, 8-6): 68
WARHAWKS (20-5, 9-5): 70  OT

After missing the opportunity to decide the issue in regulation the WARHAWKS scored 10 of 12 points from the charity stripe in overtime to preserve win number twenty and clinch home court for the first round of the conference's tournament.

A pair of baskets by Chris Jones and a three pointer from Scotty Tyler staked the WARHAWKS to a 7-0 lead before Chris Duff scored putting the BluGolds on the board about two and half minutes in.  The BluGolds would cut their deficit to three twice over the next couple minutes.  A short jumper by Alex LeGault made it a two possession WARHAWKS lead at 11-6 around the fifteen minute mark and the lead would remain at least two possessions, reaching a high of ten 30-20 before the BluGolds scored the final basket creating a 30-22 halftime score.  Holding the BluGolds to 25.9% shooting the WARHAWKS scored twice as many baskets (14-7) including an additional three pointer (2-1).  The BluGolds kept the game from being a runaway by hitting 7 of 8 free throws while the WARHAWKS missed the three they attempted.  Shooting 43.8% the WARHAWKS held a 22-6 advantage in paint points.  Tyler's 9 points led while Andre Brown and Jones chipped in with 7 and 6 respectively.  Rongstad led all rebounders with 7.  Duff's 9 and George Diekelman's 5 led the BluGolds.  The BluGolds started the second half with a 13-5 run forcing a tie 35-35 in the first five minutes and take their first lead of the game 39-37 a few minutes later.  From that point to about two minutes the two teams would exchange the lead eight times and forge a pair of ties.  From that point to the end of regulation the two teams would exchange the lead nine times and forge four ties.  Eau Claire led by pair with a minute to play but Jones scored on a layup and neither team could score again in the final thirty seconds sending them to OT.  Eau Claire had a pair of leads in the first couple minutes of overtime but a pair of free throws from Andre Brown followed by a pair from Rongstad gave the WARHAWKS a 64-62.  Jones would make another pair to create a four point spread 66-62 before the BluGolds would score again.  The BluGolds pullled to within a single point 69-68 at 8 seconds before Rongstad made one of two free throws and Diekelman missed a half court desperation attempt.

Jones: 19 points
Rongstad: 17 points, 15 rebounds, 3 steals ... 3rd dbl/dbl in last 4 games
Tyler: 13 points, 2 rebounds
Brown: 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists
TEAM: 40-34 paint points, 8 ties - 10 lead changes all in the second half

Eau Claire lost in OT, but both Augustana AND IWU dropped their 2nd games this week. I think Eau Claire is in, based on the Central Regional Rankings.

Next week, one of the two will get ANOTHER loss just in the regular season as they play each other Tuesday.

Eau Claire has me seriously worried. 8 losses at this point when they enter a Pool C conversation, right? I know there will be more losses at the table, but things are starting pile up and that concerns me. I like UWEC as a team, but oof... they can't afford to take that loss.

In a normal year, Dave, I would agree with you. But this year the parity is really there. Looking at just the Central Region, Eau Claire most likely be 2nd at the Pool C table. Wash U won the AQ in the UAA and we'll just assume River Falls or Whitewater will get the WIAC AQ (I'm sure Oshkosh will argue that and that's fine). So there will be 2 WIAC teams 1 and 2. Augustana and IWU already trail Eau Claire and the both lost TWICE last week. In addition, they play each other this week and that's before the CCIW tourney.

Looking at other regions, there are plenty of 6-7 loss teams in the rankings. The Blugolds may not have the winning %, but they'll have an SoS around .560 and I think their vRRO will be a decent 4-2.

I realize there have been some years when a region doesn't get a Pool C, but those seem to come from traditionally weak regions. Now, I haven't looked real close at everyone's SoS and vRRO, among other things, but at a quick look, I don't see how Eau Claire doesn't get in.

We shall see what happens in WIAC tourney.  I don't see Eau Claire as a lock.

A hypothetical--If Eau Claire defeats UWW Tuesday and then lost to Oshkosh Thursday, that would be 3 losses to the Titans.  Seems in and of itself enough to project the Titans above them since the Titans have already defeated your "obvious" choices of UWW and River Falls once, plus the gilded St. Norberts. Eau Claire's case is even worse, obviously, if they lose Tuesday.

I would love to see the former scenario play out just to see how the Gods of D3 would deal with it.

Maybe just like they did in 2007, where UWO finished 21-6, but lost to a 19-8 La Crosse team three times.  Both the Titans and Eagles were left on the outside looking in when the tournament bids were awarded.

Several years ago, (admittedly, I'm too lazy to look it up), I think La Crosse and Oshkosh were in thar scenario. One team had beaten the other in all 3 meetings. The losing team may have actually been ranked higher going into the final regionally rankings. The committee basically couldn't decide on one or the other so they left both out.

BTW...

Tuesday
#5 La Crosse at #4 Eau Claire
#6 Stout at #3 Whitewater

Thursday
Lowest seed at #1 River Falls
Highest seed at #2 Oshkosh

Eau Claire wouldn't meet Oshkosh until the final, unless Stout upsets Whitewater

Agreed, that was like 8-9 years ago....that was the year Oshkosh defeated top 10 Lawrence at Kolf.  :o

If Oshkosh wins moot point as they get AQ.  Then question would be RF, Shinetime U and Eau Claire all Pool C?  Unlikely.  I know Oshkosh isn't getting Pool C.
