Listening to an intra-squad basketball game on the radio is whole new level of depressing.

I probably can't argue with that.

Then you did the right thing and didn't listen...sorry I was ready for a UWSP basketball fix.

No, depressing is the right word.   ;)

Preseason All Americans announced. UWRF's Herink is on the 1st team while UWW's Chris Jones got an Honorable mention nod.

I initially saw a roster without highly recruited Andrew Bruggink for UW-Lacrosse.  I see he is in the box score for their game against UW-Milwaukee.

I listened to the Pointer Hoops Radio Show last night.

Not many details on Bublitz, they didn't give a time frame on when he'd be back.  Delmore is out on Wednesday but could possibly play when they travel to Storm Lake on Saturday.

Semling doesn't have a starting rotation figured out yet, mentioned that he could be playing 10-12 guys early in the season until it sorts itself out.  Without Delmore and Bublitz playing, the Freshman/Sophomores have been playing the upperclassmen tough in practice.  I hope that is because the undersclassmen are ahead of schedule.  Semling was quite complimentary on all the bigs, expects all of them to get minutes.  That would include Tauber, O'Heron, Koerner, Spray and Ehrke.  Guards that he mentioned specifically are Nelson, Fredrickson, Dodge and Zuiker.

A note that I was interested in.  On the show they were talking about how to balance out the roster considering they have an 8 man junior class now that Dodge had to sit out a year along with Songolo and Nelson transferring into the class.  Semling wants to bring in a couple transfers this offseason to get a couple guys that can help right away along with getting 3 or 4 of the best freshman he can get.

Greek Tragedy

6 games tomorrow and all through the house, not a basketball fan was stirring, not even a mouse...

Central at River Falls:  Central was picked 6th this year after going 16-12 and 8-8 in conference. Of course, Wartburg was only 8-8 as well and they smoked River Falls in the NCAAs last year. Anyway, I don't see the Falcons losing this one at home with Herink and Co. returning as conference favorites this year.

Crown at Stout: Crown is picked 5th in the weak UMAC while Stout comes in at dead last in the WIAC this year. Stout was 9-2 out of conference last year, so I think I'll take the home team.

Eau Claire at St. Norbert: This is a big game for the Blugolds. They unexpectedly lost Weix but still bring back a solid core in Dieckelman and Duff, among others. The Green Knights also lose a few guys but return DeValk and Reinthaler. EC won by one at Zorn last year, so this one could be another barnburner at St. Norbert. I'll hope for a Blugold win, but I don't think it will happen against the MWC favorites.

Benedictine at Oshkosh: Benedictine is hardly what they were the last few years, but Oshkosh seems to be getting better. Benedictine is predicted to finish just 3rd in the weak NACC, so the Titans really shouldn't have any problems with them.

St. Olaf at Stevens Point: A revenge game here as the Oles beat the Pointers in Minnesota last year. St. Olaf is picked 7th in a stronger than usual MIAC with St. John's, St. Thomas and Bethel all looking to get into the NCAAs this year. Point is predicted to finish 5th but was just a game out of 2nd place last year. It'll be a tight game again, but Point should pull out a close one.

La Crosse at Luther: Luther is picked last in the IIAC, but La Crosse is picked 7th in the WIAC. I think La Crosse is going to be pretty bad this year losing basically everyone except Meinholz. However, Luther should be one of their few wins, even on the road.

I'm guessing 4-2 to start off the WIAC nonconference schedule, though I could easily see 5-1 or 3-3.

I have 3 WIAC games on and they're all losing. Point down 6 to St. Olaf, SNC up 12 on Eau Claire and Benedictine surprising Oshkosh by 11.
