High School Basketball All Northwest Team:

According to who?  Just curious.

Old School,
This team is picked by the Eau Claire Leader/Telegram newspaper.  They have done it every year for many years.  This year, Eric Page, the new sports editor, was in charge.  He does a great job and I think his choices were outstanding.  I also agree with LXeagle regarding the comparison of North vs. South basketball.  Anyone who has watched the state tournament the past few years would agree.

no offense buf.........

I am from the northwoods to some degree and most of the quality players in teh wiac do not come from northwest all star teams...........I mean i don't doubt some aren't good players but the quality of basketball 'up north' isn't as good as the south of the state...........football, that's a different story

I agree with you.  IMO, the best players are from SE Wisconsin and as you move diagonally NW across the state, the quality drops.

Of the 19 players on this year's all conference team 10 are from southern Wisconsin though a couple, like Krull (Marshall), Capelle (Wis.Dells) and Stangl (Spring Valley), might be considered more south central than south east.   Four of the 19, Werner (Chippeaw Falls), Bauer (Auburndale), Jahnke (Manitowoc) and Roltevedt (Minoqua) are northern Wisconsin players.

even in the state now we have christopherson up here who is the best player in the state for his class..........overwhelmingly, most of the talent comes from the south

Mr. Ypsi

Um, don't mean to be rude, but has anyone noticed that most of the population is in the SE?! ;)

Seems likely that so would be most of the talent.

Am I missing something?

Isn't Nankovil considered the top player, right ahead of christopherson?

Manitowoc is hardly 'northern'. Chippewa Falls and Auburndale are more central than northern, or maybe the south end of northern. If you're splitting the state strictly into north and south, Wausau/Stevens Point would be the Mason-Dixon line. Calling Wausau (or municipalities along the Highway 29 line) 'north', however, would be like calling Milwaukee and Madison cities in Illinois: close but, technically, not true.

Sorry, misidentifying places as 'northern' or 'southern' Wisconsin is one of my pet peeves.

Carry on.

Geography isn't my strong point, but since Northern/Southern bounderies were being discussed, technically, "central" isn't an option.  To say that Chippewa Falls and Auburndale are more central than northern, but more importantly "maybe the south end of northern," that means they are still northern!  It's not like the civil war was between the central and the southeast, it was between North and South.  So, no matter how south Auburndale is in the northern zone or how north Manitowoc is in the southern zone, they are still both North and South, respectively.  :D

I guess if we were to divide the state into "areas" it might be something like:

Southeast-Milwaukee area and south (Kenosah etc)

East:  Oshkosh, Appleton, Green Bay over to Fondy, Sheboygan, Manti and everything north of Green Bay.

Northwest: Eau Claire, Superior, Menomonie and all those little towns!

Central: Wausau, Point, Rapids (Wisconsin River Valley conference schools) and schools directly north in the central region etc.

Southwest:  Madison/La Crosse areas

he is by the prep scouts.  I have a good friend who is listed as one of the high profile prep analysts in the state and with my analysis of seeing christopherson play live and his of seeing nankovil play live both agree nankovil is a nice player.........but if christopherson wasn't at the guard position he would be rated the best..........

so basically christopherson is the better basketball talent and therefore against what the scouts say he is the best player in the state

I should know that too since I played in it as well.  I'm over in She-Vegas and mistakenly added the "River" since I'm in Fox RIVER Valley Conference territory!  My bad.  I actually have the page bookmarked, so I could've just looked it up before posting, but it's off-season, so I'm lazy.  :P  My apologies!

When you live in WHITEWATER[/color] nearly everyone is northern.

When you live in Wentworth, just about everybody is southern, although I understand some folk farther north believe everything south of Highway 2 is part of the Confederacy.

Y'all.

No matter their origins, will Stout get more 7-footers? Will Buchanen, new to UW-Superior, find some help for Leonard Cobb? Can he mine the thinner-than-Southeastern ore of talent up north enough to put together some WIAC wins next season? Is it too late to be looking?

Arent there 1-2 more 6-10+ kids at Stout now? I swore I saw one more, other than the twins.

There's a third pretty-darn-near-7-footer; he hasn't gotten much playing time. Third twin?
