hoops2,

Thanks for the Zuiker info.

Do I sense some cracking of the Pointer Pride?  Are they not infallible?

Their baseball team sure laid an egg in the World Series last night, with a blown bunt (twice) pop-up double play ending a great scoring opportunity.

I did not see Bennett running on the field.

T2K,

Not at all.  Though any recruiting news is good, I'd like to see a big article that has Point getting someone over 6'8". :P  The 10-loss season was hard to swallow since we should've won some games we didn't (Edgewood, Clarke and Mid-America etc), but I'm a big boy and I can take it. lol.

As for the baseball team...yeah, tough one to swallow.  But, I think they'll bounce back today.  The first game of the regional, they left something like 10 guys on base and had some breakdowns, while St. Scholastica (or was it St. Thomas?) left no one on base in a tough loss.

Point leads 5-0 in the middle of the 4th.  I believe they're in a rain delay.

OS,

While I'm sure that the Point coaching staff would like some big guys, one of the ways they've always done things is to recruit quality players, regardless of position.  ... Now, it's gonna be hard for Shawn Lee to match up against the Nonemachers or Gibson... but Point is Point... we always find a way!

Check out the UWL site for schedule and recruit class info. It looks as if Coach K has a fine class of 7 incoming players, including 5 badly needed front line players. The schedule includes UWGB on Nov 8th in an exhibition game, and a Nov 18 lid-lifter at Loras. chmarx is already weasling on a long-time promise to go to Dubuque if La Crosse played there. The big wimp. I will go without him. Well, have a good summer. Except chmarx.

chmarx

As long as my old friend brings up the subject of wimps.  Since I agreed to go to Loras (if that ever actually happened), I offered to go there with him if he would have a fiftieth birthday party.  He refused, and I told him that was the end of any chance of my going there to see the gym he loves so much.

Just setting the record straight. ;D

I think the Pointer men did something bad to the coaching staff the previous year or so since this past year they were "punished" and sent to the Clarke College Holiday tourney in Dubuque...hardly the way you want to spend your holiday.  Dubuque is boring...though it is interesting to drive past the three colleges of U of Dubuque, Loras and Clarke within about a 5 block span! ;D

Oh yeah, just to let you two know ahead of time...no dinner date for you guys when you come to Point Dec. 9th.  I'll be in sunny San Francisco for the Packer/49ers game on the 10th.

Looks like you guys have some positives and negatives with your schedule this year.  The Wooster tourney between Christmas and New Year's should be a very good tourney, though I'm not sure who you'll play.  If it's Wooster, they are usually real good.  But, they are in the Great Lakes region, I believe, so you'll miss out on a non-conference in-region game(s).  Viterbo, Lakeland and your exibition with UWGB won't count either.  So, of your nine nonconference games available, only Loras, Carleton, Ripon and St. Thomas will count along with the 16 conference games.  Sure doesn't leave you much room for error in the conference.

Since you have Ripon and Lakeland at home this year, I'm assuming Point will also have those two teams come to Quandt since both of us went to Ripon and Lakeland on opposite nights last year.

5 of your last 7 conference games are at home.  Nice.

OS: Dubuque is a hoot. Let me know next time you go, and I'll give you some pointers on where to go. Please quit siding with  you know whom on the Loras trip. I have less than 6 months to shame and/or browbeat him into going, and he is the second most stubborn person I know.Lastly, what do you make of La Crosse's recruiting class? Looks good to me.

They're tall...other than that, I know nothing about players from high schools! ???

Moses is a big guard with a strong frame. He can get to the rim and can defend a guard or a forward. His outside shot is good if not consistant, this is a very different player than Bryce Welch.  Moses will rebound well from the guard spot, and I would expect him to see some minutes early in his career...a good grab for the Pointers
Care to share how you think Moses and Welch are "different?"  A lot of the things you mentioned about Moses, go right along with Welch's game (Big guard, rebound well, decent outside shot, etc..)

Brian is learning just how stubborn I am.

He's a slow learner, if he thinks he has a prayer of persuading me without having a belated birthday party.  :P

Maybe they are not very different...I would still give the edge to Welch as I think he is a much better shooter than Moses, I also think he is a better ball handler and he runs a team a bit better. Moses had a tendency to shrink a bit in big games (see Randolph Sectional Game). However I still think Moses will be a good player for Point, there is no denying his physicality from a perimeter player. Welch is better right now, and potentially overall, but Moses is quite a player

Well, the UWSP MEN'S schedule isn't out yet...the women's schedule is.  Since I just saw The DaVinci Code and closely watching Dr. Langdon, I'm confident I can decipher the women's schedule and figure out most of the men's schedule!  ;D

The women have two games at home Fri. and Sat. Nov. 24th and 25th.  La Crosse, meanwhile, hosts Lakeland and Ripon on the same dates.  Last year, La Crosse and Point played "playing partners" and played away to Lakeland and Ripon on opposite nights, so I can only hope this happens again...being able to see two men's and women's double-headers that weekend!

I'm assuming, as in the past, Saturday games are men's and women's conference double-headers, while Wednesdays teams play the same opponents at opposite gyms.  With that said...here's the men's schedule.

W 11/19 @ Osh
S 12/2 @ RF
W 12/6 vs WW
S 12/9 vs LX

W 1/3 vs SUP*
S 1/6 @ ST
W 1/10 @ EC
W 1/17 @ PL
S 1/20 vs RF
W 1/24 vs OSH
W 1/31 vs EC

S 2/3 @ LX
W 2/7 @ WW
S 2/10 vs ST
W 2/14 vs PL
S 2/17 @ SUP*

*women play at home at 7 pm.  Since it's Superior, I'm guessing the men play at home at 5.

As purely a suspense thriller, The DaVinci Code was a pretty good movie.  I didn't read the book and didn't get into all the religious arguments that go with the film.  There was a lot of talkie talk, so I got a little bored/confused with that, but overall, it was a solid movie, even for PG-13.

Regarding Eric Gardow's whereabouts -

The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram reported today the former Blugold and UW-Stout associate head coach, and most recently the head coach at Mondovi, has been named head coach at Gogebic Community College.

Not sure where that is, but the little blurb had a dateline from Ironwood, Mich., so that's probably a good guess...

You are correct re: Gardow....             and I have no idea where it is either!
