Well, that was unexpected. Point shocks Oshkosh AND Platteville knocks off La Crosse. Point at Platteville on Saturday. Wow.

HIGHLY unexpected!  I'll guess that the WIAC is now a two-team league.  Oshkosh is a lock, but I'm not sure either LaX or UWSP can get a C (IF UWSP needs a C).

Ironically, Point would've been better off losing to La Crosse in the Final because they are a regionally ranked opponent.

So, serious question to anyone who attended the game or watched it online.

Was the outcome a matter of Oshkosh "not being able to hit the broad side of a barn" and "just one of those nights" or was Point really responsible for the bad night?

I think the answer to that question is...a little bit of both.  Oshkosh definitely had an off shooting night, missed a few wide open looks.  But, Point played tough defense and made it difficult on Flynn to get the ball along with Fravert to get comfortable.  Oshkosh started the game turning the ball over 4-5 times in the first few minutes and Point got up 10-0, that kind of set the tone.

Ehrke and Spray have been having their coming out parties these past couple weeks.  They make the defense guard 5 people defensively when they are in the game instead of having Tauber on the floor and not worrying about him, definitely helps with spacing creating lanes for the guards to get to the hoop.  Knez has also been getting more minutes and really giving Bublitz/Fredrickson a break from guarding the opponents best guard.  Last night he did a solid job on Boots.  O'Heron had a very efficient game and Point needs somebody to be a threat down low.

Point always has problems traveling to Platteville, so I don't know what to expect.  Both teams seem to be in do or die situations which will make it a fun atmosphere.  I was hoping for a La Crosse win over Platteville, haven't put my finger on it but I feel Point matches up better with La Crosse than Platteville.

Hey Stevens Point, now is a good time to start a 9-game winning streak. Just sayin'

1-0

2-0

Sorry this was late, GT.

Better late than never though, I guess!

So, I looked at the UWSP/UWP matchups from the past few years:

1/7/15 @UWSP 74 UWP 55 (UWSP had 1 conference loss this season, won the National Title)
2/7/15 UWSP 67 @UWP 55

2/13/16 @UWSP 60 UWP 57 (UWSP #5 in conference, UWP #7)
2/17/16 UWSP 72 @UWP 64

1/18/17 @UWP 76 UWSP 71 (UWSP tied #4 in conf, UWP #8 - Platteville's sole conference win this season)
2/15/17 @UWSP 61 UWP 56

1/20/18 @UWSP 80 UWP 74 (one of Platteville's two conference losses) (UWP #1 in conf, UWSP #2)
2/7/18 @UWP 56 UWSP 47 (one of Point's three conference losses) (Both teams made the Sweet 16)

1/19/19 UWP 61 @UWSP 60 (Platteville led by 8 at the half)
2/16/19 @UWP 55 UWSP 50 (Point led by 3 at the half)

I think the "conclusion" you can draw from looking at these is that this will likely be a close game. Two years ago (and further) is probably too far back... but interesting that Point was Platte's only win of the year two years ago.

If you look at the scores, it appears that last season and this, Point has had more success by NOT slowing the pace down, which they usually do. The last two games, though, Point has looked different on offense... moving the ball more and less holding and 1 on 1 as the shot clock runs out. That's come with the juniors getting into game and being scoring threats, as Tom mentioned above.

Was the outcome a matter of Oshkosh "not being able to hit the broad side of a barn" and "just one of those nights" or was Point really responsible for the bad night?

From my 10 minutes or so of watching the Point Oshkosh game last night, the Pointers came out hot and went up 10-0.  They did a great job of bumping cutters, and bodying everybody that crossed their path, so by the time a Titan put up a shot, it always looked rushed or hurried.  Good D. Oshkosh didn't look like the team I'd seen a couple of times earlier this season.

Am I technologically inept, or is a school know for their engineering & technical prowess, UW Platteville, lagging with their webcast capabilities?  I've tuned in a couple of times over the past year, and Platteville never has a game announcer.  Is there another secret webcast that only WIACers have access to?  ??? ;D

Yes. It's amazing. Eddie Doucette describes the rainbow jumpers.

Well, this is it. Winner goes dancing, the loser goes shoveling. I tempered my excitement after Thursday's win because if Point doesn't win today, they won't get in. Pessimistic, like usual, but still hoping!

Nice Try by SP! You guys had the lead with four minutes left and were outscored 16-2 down the stretch!

SJU beats Augsburg 82-79 despite Booker Coplin's (UWRF transfer) 45, so SJU and UST get in from the MIAC, or so it would seem.

That's unfortunate. And disappointing. Superfan, I had higher expectations after you and Jane got all that pub in the children's reading books back in the day.
