Nice Try by SP! You guys had the lead with four minutes left and were outscored 16-2 down the stretch!

Perhaps the higher road would have been a post congratulating your guys.

... especially when you're a poster who hasn't posted in this room since 2007. >:(

That's unfortunate. And disappointing. Superfan, I had higher expectations after you and Jane got all that pub in the children's reading books back in the day.

And out of nowhere, LA CROSSE MAKES THE FIELD!

Three WIAC teams in, as La Crosse makes the tournament and will face St. Thomas in the opening round.

UWO squares off against Lake Forest at St. John's...

Platteville takes on Capital at Augustana...

Gotta think the late season win by La Crosse over UWO might just have been the difference between making the field or being left out..

Dave mentioned it, but I'm curious if they were watching today and preparing the past couple of days!?

Greek Tragedy

I really think everyone had Point ahead in the final regional rankings based on their 2-1 week and La Crosse went 0-1, but the committee obviously had La Crosse ahead, probably based on their 2-0 h2h. Still a shcok as none of the experts had Point making the field, let alone La Crosse. I am absolutely shocked.

As much as I hate not seeing UWSP in the field, they had opportunity after opportunity to solidify their resume...and they kept shooting themselves in the foot.

Fredrickson had a wide open look at buzzer of regulation against Augustana...they failed to get back on defense and gave up a put back dunk at the buzzer against Platteville at Point..and they turned the ball over that led to a wide open layup their last possession against La Crosse at Point...that's just off the top of my head...if any of those things goes Points way, I'd have to think they are in the field today.

As I've said numerous times, this is a huge offseason for UWSP if they plan on competing to make the tourney the next few years.  They lose 8 seniors, all 5 starters...Spray, Ehrke, Knez and to a lesser extent Garret Nelson were providing quailtiy minutes at the end of the year...but they need to find atleast 3 or 4 quality WIAC players in this recruiting class.  By quality, I mean quality players for next season...not 3 seasons down the road.  Wrightstown Wing, Mayson Hazaert, is a good start.  I would assume UWSP will look at the transfer market along with a Freshman class that should be atleast 5 deep.

Greek Tragedy

Not to mention two points in the last 4+ minutes in the WIAC championship game, but someone already reminded us of that.

So Point had a better winning%, higher SOS and more results vRRO than La Crosse. The Eagles were 2-0 v Point. If Platteville snuck into the regional rankings on their strength of their 3-0 week, Point would've added three more losses and no wins to their vRRO. That's 1-7 vs Oshkosh, La Crosse and Platteville.

I never thought Point had a chance to get into the tournament, but I never expected La Crosse to stay ahead of Point in the regional rankings AND actually get a bid. Amazing.

However, I do wish all the WIAC teams the best of luck. It's funny. All the experts felt Point didn't have enough to get in and La Crosse got in with arguably worse numbers.

UWL is a Shocker! They are a good team! However, they bump out a number of teams with a better record! They do have a tough row ahead! I am returning because I want to!  Not many objective fans from UWP on this site. God Bless You All!

Thank you Warhawk fan. I did miss you during my absence!

And of course it's just an amazing coincidence that you decided that you wanted to return here after a 12-year-absence on the very same day that UW-Platteville won the WIAC tourney and got the league's autobid to the D3 dance.

Platteville goes from not being ranked to #5 in the Feb 25 final, above UWL and Point.

The important numbers:

Team      Vs D-3      (%)      Vs RRO      (%)      SOS      Record      (%)      Vs UWP      Vs UWL      Vs UWSP
   Wis.-Platteville      17-10      (0.630)      6-5      (0.545)      0.593      18-10      (0.643)      -      2-1      3-0
   Wis.-La Crosse      17-9      (0.654)      5-4      (0.556)      0.575      17-9      (0.654)      1-2      -      2-0
   Wis.-Stevens Point      18-9      (0.667)      2-9      (0.182)      0.590      18-9      (0.667)      0-3      0-2      -

If we accept that the Win % and SOS are close enough (I'm not necessarily making this argument... just posing an argument that might have been made), if you look at the vs. RRO and H2H, Platteville rises to the top (their SOS was the highest anyway).

To tomt's point earlier... Point had the opportunity to win several games this year.

12/1/18 - 8 pt lead at Augustana with 4 minutes to go. Lost at the buzzer/turned the ball over - didn't get a shot
1/19/19 - 4 pt lead vs Platteville under 4 minutes. Lost at the buzzer (tip dunk)/turned the ball over - didn't get a shot
1/31/19 - 4 pt halftime lead at La Crosse
2/9/19 -  Tied with Oshkosh - 4 minutes left, led by 5 with 8 minutes left
2/16/19 - 3 pt halftime lead at Platteville

2/23/19 - 1 pt lead with 4 minutes left at Platteville (WIAC Tournament)

Obviously, if the last one had been finished, then it would have been the Auto-bid. But if any one of those other 5 had gone Point's way, then it might be a different story in terms of the Pool C bid. I think it's safe to say if any two went their way, then it's definitely different. 20-7 is a .740 win %, two more wins vs RRO (obviously contingent on Platteville entering, or not...)
