Stevens Point (18-9, 8-6)

Point again has the toughest NC schedule with opponents posting a 186-112 record (62.4%). The Pointers have two exciting road trips this year. First, they head to Virginia to take on Wilmington (17-8), a team that finished a game back of a three way tie for first in the tough OAC. The following night, they may take on the hosts, CNU (29-4) or UT-Dallas (24-5). Their other trip takes them to Texas to battle UT-Dallas and ETBU (12-14) the following night. Big games vs Bethel (19-8) and Augustana (26-4) are also slated. Familiar faces such as St. Olaf (13-13), Edgewood (10-16) and Superior (6-19) kick off the new season. Ripon (15-10) and Hope (15-11) will also add to the challenging slate.

Greek Tragedy

I have your non-conference WIAC itinerary figured out. Lot's of good games.

Things kick off Friday, November 1, when La Crosse heads to Madison to take on Wisconsin in an exhibition game.

Opening Friday (Nov. 8) has two games to choose from. I think we'll stay in-state and go up to Menomonie to see Stout take on St. Olaf instead of going to Duluth and watching the Blugolds battle St. Scholastica.

Stout has an exhibition at UWGB the following day, Saturday, Nov. 9, but all eyes will be in Rock Island as Oshkosh takes on Augustana.

Head directly north about an hour and half after watching that barn-burner to witness another, Platteville hosting Finlandia, on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Monday is a rest day before four games involving WIAC teams on Tuesday, Nov. 12. La Crosse is at Bethel, River Falls hosts St. Scholastica and Whitewater heads to MSOE. Whitewater has been down the last couple of years and MSOE won the NACC, so that could be a good game. However, it's back to Illinois, Naperville this time, to see Oshkosh take on North Central (IL).

Two games on Wednesday, Nov. 13 with Stout hosting Concordia-Moorhead and Stevens Point opening up against St. Olaf at Quandt. We'll go to Point this day.

Thursday, Nov. 14 has just one game, so we'll travel to Eau Claire to see them take on Aurora.

We have four games on Friday, Nov. 15. River Falls takes on Franklin at the Wheaton tournament and Whitewater hosts Wash U which is probably the game of the day. However, you have a chance for a traveling double-header on Friday. First, you can take a trip to Dubuque, Iowa for the Loras tournament and see La Crosse battle Concordia (WI) at 4 pm. When that game is done, hop in the car and head north about a half an hour to Platteville and watch the Pioneers face Viterbo at 8 pm.

On Saturday, Nov. 16, you'll be back in Dubuque to see La Crosse vs Blackburn at 2 pm and then head back to Platteville to see them against Washington U at 7. Also on Saturday, Stout travels to Sheboygan to take on Lakeland, Whitewater hosts Viterbo and River Falls is back for day two at the Wheaton tournament.

Sunday, Nov. 17 is a rest day, and much needed for all that traveling back and forth from Dubuque to Platteville.

Monday, Nov. 18 sees just one game with the Blugolds taking on former WIACer Superior.

Tuesday, Nov. 19 has three games to choose from, La Crosse traveling to Fond du Lac to take on the Sabers of Marian, Oshkosh traveling to Kenosha to take on yet another CCIW opponent in Carthage and Whitewater hosting Ripon. We'll travel down to Whitewater since we've already seen the Eagles and Titans play.

Not much choice on Wednesday, Nov. 20 and Thursday, Nov 21 as it's Platteville hosting Concordia IL and River Falls hosting Superior.

On Friday, Nov. 22 Whitewater hosts Monmouth, but we'll head all the way down to St. Louis to see Eau Claire take on Whitworth in the Washington U tournament.

Saturday, Nov. 23 has Oshkosh hosting Elmhurst and Point traveling to Madison to play Edgewood. But really, you're already in St. Louis, so you'll watch Eau Claire again, playing...someone.

It's a trek and realistically you wouldn't do it, but Sunday, Nov. 24 has Stout traveling to Hancock, Michigan to face Finlandia.

No games Monday, but everyone plays on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Stout hosts Bethany Lutheran, La Crosse hosts Augsburg, Platteville heads to Chicago to face Illinois Tech, Eau Claire hosts Wartburg, Oshkosh hosts Edgewood, Point travels to Superior and River Falls visits Northwestern. The best game is probably Whitewater heading to Rock Island to take on Augustana.

Thanksgiving weekend has Stout going to Michigan to take on Alma and Saginaw Valley (exhibition) on Saturday, Nov. 30 and Sunday, Dec. 1, La Crosse hosting Wartburg on Saturday and River Falls traveling to Minneapolis to battle Augsburg. The two fun trips will be Eau Claire heading out west to visit Pacific Lutheran (Saturday) and Puget Sound (Sunday) or you can head east to see Stevens Point play Wilmington at Newport News, Virginia in the Christopher Newport tournament (Saturday) and then possibly the hosts on Sunday. Sunday, Dec. 1 also offers Platteville in Milwaukee to take on Cardinal Stritch and Oshkosh hosting Lawrence.

December's schedule will be up later...

From Twitter, I was able to figure out one of the 2 guys on UWSP's roster this year that haven't been announced yet.  The other player is a freshman from Pewaukee, but name is unkown.

The player is Beau Rosenthal.  He was the starting PG for SPASH when they won their 3rd of 3 straight State Championships.  From what I found, it looks like he committed to Lakeland out of High School (2016-2017) but never played for them.  I think this is a depth move after they missed on atleast 5 other PG targets in this past recruiting cycle.

This year can be a rough one for Pointer fans but if Semling and Hockett don't bring in a banner recruiting class this season, next year will be rougher.  One of their top targets for this year has already committed elsewhere.

It'll be easy to recruit players for next year since everyone wants to play for a National Champion. Duh.

Every 5 years.

Haha...

I'll be the first to say, I was shocked they won it in 2015 with Ryf, Ritchay, Lutz and Richard leading the way after losing Tillema, Haas and Heuer.  But, next years group isn't winning one without some significant transfers.

Pewaukee Freshman that nobody knows

That is their returning roster after this season.  I know your post was dripping with sarcasm, but this roster isn't competing in the WIAC...let alone nationally.

Speaking of nationally competitive WIAC teams, I had a chance to interview Bo Ryan on the occasion of his being inducted into the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame. Here's the story on him.

According to La Crosse's roster page, they have their Returners up for this coming season...

Players with eligibility left not listed are...
6'3" Jack Kortes
6'9" Colton Homan
6'4" Luke Haese
6'9" Josh Dahlke

Dahlke is a big loss if you ask me.  He played solid minutes as a freshman and I think he could have developed into one of the better bigs in the conference if he stuck with it.  He certainly helped La Crosse on the defensive end with his length and rebounding.

This makes a little more sense why La Crosse's recruiting class was larger than I expected.  They bring in 9 guys and 9 guys are apparently exiting the program.

tomt4525

UWRF has their roster posted for the upcoming season.

Players with eligibility left that aren't listed...

Jalen Greenlee
Charlie Gove
Nathan Macho Jr

They lose 6 players and bring in 5 players.  Luke Harris, UMD transfer, as well as James Flicek, Princeton MN grad, were announced as recruits but aren't listed on the roster page now.

Kevin Hurd is leaving UWSP to go back to his alma mater as an assistant coach.  That would be Carroll University.

tomt4525

Canon O'Heron will take Kevin Hurd's spot on the bench.  He has accepted an assistant position for the Pointers.
