WARHAWKS fall to Augustana 86-69.  Trailing by 15 in the first minute of the second half the WARHAWKS mount a furious rally and over the next 6-7 minutes pull into a 52-52 tie.  Then over the next 2 minutes turn the ball over twice and miss a shot to fall behind by 8.  Seven is as close as we get after that.  Baily drops 23 and 4 assists.  Ards adds 18.

It's a disconcerting modus operandi.  But until we start getting more points from more than two players it's likely our fate.

Next: Michigan for weekend games with Calvin and Alma.

Pointers hit just one FG in the first 15 minutes against Wilmington, but only trained 30-27 at the half.  Wilmington has some length and puts a lot of pressure on the ball - it's throwing Point a little bit, but, as always, their defense is keeping them in it.

UWSP getting pounded by a 1-3 Wilmington team.  They will struggle mightily to put the ball in the basket all season long with this roster.

They got plenty of good looks in the first half.  They just literally couldn't hit any of them.  It's been a tougher second half offensively, but they're only down ten at the final media timeout.

Great performance from UWSP.  Had to come back from more than 15 down in each half.  Bublitz hit a runner in the lane with two seconds left to tie.  He hit the FT (18-18 on the game) to win by one.  Wilmington's record is terrible, but they're a legit team.  That's a real win for Point.  Hopefully something they can build from, because most of the game they played awful.

Bublitz with and And 1 with 3 seconds left to get a 1 point win for UWSP.  He was 18-18 from the line and the team was 26-28.  It shouldn't be a close game when that happens.

Wow Pointers down 9 with one minute left and they win, how crazy is that?

Greek Tragedy

I'm not sure what to think of that game. Point down 18 or 19 in the first half. They cut it to 30-27. Then they fall behind again by 18-19 and make a furious rally. As mentioned, down 9 with a little over a minute to go. Got some help by some missed free throws by Wilmington. I'll take it!

RF loses, 79-76, after leading by 11 second half. Booker Coplin had 37 for Auggies. Jackson 20 and 11-12 boards for Falcons. RF in foul trouble second half and without much p.t. from Stensgard who did not play last game b.c. of sickness, I assume. All numbers I cite coming from memory, but they're close.

Pointers sweep Virginia by beating CNU 61-58. Led wire to wire and move to 5-0 on the season. Ethan Bublitz was 22-22 from the line during the weekend, now at 96% for the year. They may earn a couple of votes in the poll this week  :D

Greek Tragedy

I actually thought it was going to be a down year for the WIAC, but they've impressed overall.

Oshkosh is 4-2, but has those wins over NCC and Augie, although they've dropped games to Elmhurst and Carthage.

La Crosse is 6-0 with a win over ranked Augsburg

Platteville is 6-0 with a win over ranked Wash U

Point is 5-0 with a win over ranked CNU

River Falls is 4-2 and lost by just 3 to Augsburg

Not too shabby

Agree.  Very quietly the WIAC is settling into being the WIAC.

I just submitted my Week 2 ballot and have Platteville, Oshkosh, and La Crosse in.  Stevens Point and Eau Claire are on my watch list.

Greek Tragedy

Of course, I forgot Eau Claire for some reason. They're 7-1. They lost to Wash U by 1 in St. Louis. They also beat Whitworth, who's 5-1 (who beat St. Thomas).

This is a little understated.  Point looked phenomenal.  Near perfect execution.  Post-season focus.  Really impressive.  You can see where they can tighten things up a little, but at this point in the season, it was a superb performance.  I'm not sure how they'll do against the size they'll see in WIAC play, but if they can string 40 minutes together like this on a consistent basis people will be reminded of that last championship team.  They also need a little more depth, probably.  It was a razor's edge when guys started getting into foul trouble.
