Madison La Follete 6'1" G, Ben Probst, will play basketball in the WIAC.  His recruitment is down to La Crosse, Platteville and Stevens Point.  A really good player for whichever program that lands him.

So basically La Crosse or Platteville.

The way things are going for UWSP, yep.

GT--the "tricky game" will be even trickier for RF as they will miss their no. 2 and 3 best scorers, Keller and Stensgard, with injuries. Neither played vs. Eau Claire, though, and their subs, Reeck and Phillips, a freshman and sophomore, did well.

MESSAGE TO RECRUITS:  IN DOUBT? ENROLL AT STOUT. DON'T CARE? GO TO EAU CLAIRE. AT A LOSS? TRY LACROSSE. FEELIN' OUTTA JOINT? YOUR PLACE IS POINT. DON'T LIKE THE REST? DO WHAT'S BEST!

It wasn't tricky enough for RF they outlast Platteville 74-68. Oshkosh survives at WW.

Fortunately, I was wrong about Jack Stensgard's injury. He started and played 37 minutes, scoring 18 pts. Stovall was outstanding for Pville w/21 pts., 12 boards. Pville led 41-40 at the half, but looked shaky down the stretch unable to hit bunnies and turning it over in key situations.

halfway point

Oshkosh 6-1, 12-6...who doubted them?

La Crosse 5-2, 15-2...lost at home to Platteville
Platteville 5-2, 15-3...surprise loss at River Falls

Stevens Point 4-3, 12-6...back to back losses to Eau Claire and Oshkosh

Eau Claire 3-4, 12-6...home loss to Stout is going to hurt
River Falls 3-4, 10-8...Platteville win a turning point?

Whitewater 1-6, 6-12...one-point win over Stout is the highlight?
Stout 1-6, 5-14...one-point win at Eau Claire the only positive

La Crosse and Platteville still in good shape for a Pool C bid.

Oshkosh, Point and Eau Claire all need to go 5-2 in the 2nd half of the conference season to have a decent shot at Pool C. That gives them 8 losses going into the conference tournament.

Wednesday's schedule

Whitewater at La Crosse...the Eagles can't slip against the Warhawks.
River Falls at Stevens Point...Falcons just upset Platteville.
Eau Claire at Stout...usually a good game.

The Big One

Oshkosh at Platteville...can the Pioneers bounce back?

From Saturday.

Platteville at River Falls was pretty shocking. Platteville played uninspired and looking like they were just going through the motions. River Falls was the more aggressive team and were making the necessary winning plays without Keller and Jackson, who only played limited minutes due to foul issues.

Oshkosh at Whitewater was interesting to watch. Mahoney was not able to go for the Titans as they went big and Borchert joined the starting five. Whitewater was making a lot of drives and were getting some easy layups and short, in the lane jumpers. It seemed like the Oshkosh big three were scared to contest sometimes at the risk of getting in foul trouble. Oshkosh gets the win in the end on the corner three by Vlotho, but what is the cost? Flynn had to exit the game with under a minute to go battling for a rebound on what looked he stepped on a Whitewater player and was hobbled with an ankle. Ironically, it was Vlotho who came in for Flynn in the final seconds to be on the floor to hit the winning shot. It appears from pbp, that Whitewater had two timeouts left in that final 8.8 seconds, but did not take one and did not get a shot off in a swarming defensive effort by the Titans.

La Crosse at Eau Claire and Stout at Stevens Point was one way traffic for the Eagles and Pointers. They pick up the expected, easy wins. Eau Claire appeared to have righted the ship on the road at Point and River Falls, thought they would've come out better at home.

Oshkosh does lead at the turn, with the big game at Platteville on Wedesday. They will set themselves up in good position if they can go 6-1 again. That may be a tall task with trips to Platteville, La Crosee, Stevens Point and River Falls all scheduled.

Point wins 61-59. River Falls had the ball with about 34 seconds left down one. They turned the ball over with 9 seconds left. They fouled and sent Bublitz to the line with 7.5 seconds left. He hit one and missed the 2nd. River Falls had a pretty good look for a long 3, but rimmed out.

With a little help from Oshkosh calling a timeout they didn't have.

Platteville wins in 2 OTs a fitting game for the 1st and 2nd place teams. Platteville led at half by 9. The lead grew to 18 6 minutes into the 2nd half. Oshkosh came back led by Fravert who at times was unstoppable. Platteville came back to force OT. Platteville could have made it a 2 pocession game at the end of the first OT but they missed important free throws and Fravert made a 3 to send it to the 2nd OT. With less than 30 seconds left there was a scum under Oshkosh's basket and a Oshkosh player on the floor with the ball called a time out but Oshkosh was out of time outs so the technical was called.  This time Platteville made the free throws. Great game between 2 good teams.
