Looks like we're getting some of those WIAC/CCIW matchups we've been looking for for years!

There's a potential for WW to play both IWU and Elmhurst, and I just found this on Augustana's website:

December 30 Wisconsin-Stevens Point Stevens Point, Wisconsin 1:00 p.m.

So, I would percieve that to mean that Augie is traveling to central Wisconsin.

Any other CCIW/WIAC matchups?

WW finally has it's schedule up.  Tip off with IWU, Clark, and MLC (who are they) AND MSOE, former college of one Beau Brummund (DR, I know you'll like that) :)

Clarke, not Clark. The former is a D3 school in Dubuque, the latter is the D3 school in Worcester, MA that the Warhawks beat in the '84 national championship game.

It would be real interesting to see  IWU and UWW get a rematch!  Who's all in the Elmhurst tourney?

Elmhurst usually doesn't post their schedule until school begins, and even then it's sometimes a mystery as to who gets paired with whom in their holiday tournament until shortly before the season starts.

That's a real PITA, BTW.

Anyone heard of any drama coming from Stout?  Rumor has it that Stangl and Chandler quit along with others.  The only ones left are the Nonemachers.  Sounds like RF and Stout are losing key players.

I can confirm this as 100% TRUE!  I have heard it out of Stangl's mouth personally.  Every time I see him I ask him if anything changes and he always gives me the "absolutely not" response.  They don't want to play anymore because this past year demands were "unbelievable" as in practices starting at/before 6 AM (can't remember which) coupled with crazy times for lifting as well.  Plus I have heard from a TON of other Stout players how playing at Stout has just plain SUCKED since Gardow left.  There is a GOOD reason that Eddie won't bring any of this up......it is flat out embarrasing to lose your all conference backcourt as Juniors to be!

Not sure about those "unbelievable" demands..you need to sacrifice to succeed. If they did quit due to those reasons, how dedicated were they? I know the twins, and have played with them in several tournaments in the midwest. I have also taken a travel team up to Stout the past few years, to play Stout. In my mind, those teams were a step away from being great, and it starts with discipline and sacrifice. I remember a few years ago when a former all WIAC player (a center, I think) at Stout quit or was asked to leave..didn't he say the same types of things?

Well, there are sacrifices, and then there is D3 basketball.  At the end of the day, what do you think is most important to Stangl??  An education and degree to provide for his family, or the chance to be on an above average Stout team, coupled with crazy demands that rival that of a D1 program?  It is no secret in the area how crazy Eddie can be with some of his activities.  I know of at least one coach in the area that talked to Eddie about toning down some things when he heard or these rumblings back in January-February.

By the way, if you think Stangl and Chandler are on the same page as Andy Brey......you haven't watched Stout too close.

Isn't D3 basketball the epitome of sacrifice? Don't you think those Platteville teams from the mid 90's had early morning practices? I don't think Andrist is much more intense or crazy than Bo Ryan was/is......Bo and Eddie have had similar levels of success (we wont get into the NAIA stuff, but championships are championships). My point is, unless I hear that they quit for legit reasons, I'll stick to my opinion that they weren't as dedicated to the sport and to their team.

only in the sense of they were star caliber players who left the team

mythicalbird

How about this then.....he is dedicated to his son, his wife to be (getting married in October), and getting an education.  How is that for a good enough reason.  Simply put, he doesn't want to play anymore, he doesn't care for Eddie, and hardly any of the players do.  It isn't a secret, talk to any of the players and the majority will tell you this.  I have heard it out of their mouths.  Ryan simply has more important things in life than D3 basketball.

Isn't Chandler's deal that he wants to concentrate on golf and be in the new Golf Management program?

I think Andy could have been a star level player, but he never was. He maybe indulged too much, I don't know.

One other thing about Andy that I just remembered.

He didn't leave the team, he was cut.
