How about this then.....he is dedicated to his son, his wife to be (getting married in October), and getting an education.  How is that for a good enough reason.  Simply put, he doesn't want to play anymore, he doesn't care for Eddie, and hardly any of the players do.  It isn't a secret, talk to any of the players and the majority will tell you this.  I have heard it out of their mouths.  Ryan simply has more important things in life than D3 basketball.
much different reason then 6 am practices, don't you think?

One other thing about Andy that I just remembered.

He didn't leave the team, he was cut.
wasn't he cut during the season?

Isn't Chandler's deal that he wants to concentrate on golf and be in the new Golf Management program?

again, much different reason than 6 am practices

Yes he was. He might have been having a hard time showing up for those 6am practices, I am not sure.

Mr. Downtown

I'm I really hearing this...

No Adam Chandler nor Ryan Stangel for Stout? Wow...what I thought was going to be another wide open race, and now all of a sudden you can almost count one team out.

What's Stout's plan of action? Do they have any new recruits who are ready to step on the floor? And who is also leaving the team (or have been cut), and who will step up from the bench to be a starter? And can they really provide the same production as Chandler and Stangel did.

Honestly, morning practices are a common thing. If you think waking up at 5am to go play basketball is tough, try showering, shaving, and putting on a suit and do your women's basketball story at 5am. Not pretty either way  :)

BDB

MDT, We'll have to wait and see who shows up when practices start. After graduating 5 or 6 (I forget) there was going to be some new blood on the team anyway.

One thing is for sure, the Nonemachers will be there and they will be ready.

If it's one thing Eddie can do it's recruit.  Losing talent like Chandler and Stangl certainly hurts but how much depends entirely on who replaces them and if all of this is true you can expect that Eddie has been very busy.

I always thought Andy Brey was pretty decent but he could have been really good if he would have had his head on straight.

Agreed, he was kind of on the NUTS side of things.  It all came to a head in Eau Claire for him.  He went off the deep end on Eddie on the way off the floor in front of the EC student section.  A couple days later, he was gone.  As for Chandler and Stangl, what I was trying to get out all along was that they have other things (i.e. family and school) that are more important to them as the result of how things are run at Stout.  Whether they are right or not, that is what they are doing and it will DEFINITELY shake some things up over at Stout.

Mr. Downtown

I still consider Stout a contender...but now a long shot I guess.

Greek Tragedy

I have no problem if a STUDENT-athlete leaves the program because he/she has a family to take care of or if the athletice demand is hampering the studies of said student.  Those are legit reasons and anyone who would question those priorities is an idiot.  However, if an athlete leaves because practices are too early/too late because it cuts into his sleep or social time or if the coach is "too hard on me", that may be an instance of not being dedicated enough.  I don't know the situation at all up there, so I won't judge those players at all.

As a former student athlete myself, there were times I didn't feel like getting out of bed and by the end of the season, I was glad it was over (as much as you love a sport, it does get tiring and you need a break!  :D )...not to mention WORKING on top of playing and school! lol.

I was thinking last night about some of the comments that have been made on this board about the Stout Men's Basketball program. Obviously from my moniker, I follow the BlueDevils and Coach Andrist is a friend of mine. Being somewhat close to the program, none of the negative comments brought on by the possibility of Stangl and Chandler leaving the program ring true to me.

So, I did some research over the past 20 years of Stout basketball and here is what I found:

* 20 seasons have come and gone and the Blue Devils have only had 8 winning seasons, with Eddie coaching 5 of them in 6 years.

* Eddie coached the only NCAA run Stout has in their history and the most single season wins in 97 years.

* Since Eddie's arrival, Johnson Fieldhouse is electric and full; in the top 8 for attendance in the country.

* And yes, the Blue Devils are winning.

Something tells me that Eddie believes in what he's doing. To lose Stangl and Chandler would be a huge loss for the next 2 seasons. But those 2 seasons will be over in about 20 months. Time waits for no one.

I hope these guys stay interested in the game and decide to be a part of the Blue Devils. I would like to watch them play. But everyone has to make their own decisions. Life and basketball move on.

I definitely think Eddie should go back and run things the way they were in the past.  In fact I'll be happy to come up and lend a hand.  :D

Evidently Eddie's practice demands weren't for Stangl and Chandler and that's the way it goes.  It's his program to run as he sees fit and there's nothing abusive about morning practices and required weight training.   Does it make sense for Eddie to abandon it because two players are unhappy when he's worked with many more who didn't have a problem and his program is definitely ascending?

Every program in the league has lost players at one time or another who were unhappy about one thing or another.  The only thing different in this case is that the players were starters and figured to play a significant role the next couple of years. That hurts but it isn't insurmountable and it definitely isn't unique.

Were the morning practices on top of the regular daily practices? I thought the men practiced right before or after the women.

Mr. Downtown

Badgerwarhawk, I agree...

I mean seriously, can you win the WIAC on talent alone? Of course not, it takes that extra effort away from the games to be a special team.

What I'm worried about is the team attitude now.

BDB

BW, great comments as usual.

MDT, as far as team attitude is concerned, I have talked with the Nonemachers, who ARE the team by the way, and they feel good about things, and who's coming aboard.

I can relate to being 20-21 years old. If Chandler and Stangl think the world will crumble because they don't play basketball for Stout, they are going to find out how quickly they will be forgotten.

That's just the way things are.

My 7 year old son, however, will have to try to understand why his favorite player (Chandler) is no longer on the team.

I will have to tell my little boy, who loves Chandler, that he quit.

And quiting is something he doesn't understand.
