Decent sized crowd close to 400 with the students gone, even though the pepband was there. They moved everyone over to one side, so obviously looked fuller. I haven't been there previously this season, so not sure if that's standard now. They also moved the player benches to the other side, opposite of the fans.

Looks like they are trying to repaint the lane lines on the track, so they couldn't pull on the bleachers on that side. Normally both sides are out and bench on that side as it was on Saturday.

If you aren't anticipating a huge crowd, outside of Point and maybe a few other conference games on the weekend, I kind of like it better with all the fans on one side.

From the boxscore...

In Point's blowout loss to WLC, Seth Miron had a coming out party with 20 points, playing 38 minutes. This weekend, he only played 10 at Augustana. Matchup? Injury?

Got two fouls before the 17 minute mark if I remember correctly.  He sat basically the entire rest of the first half.  He didn't get many minutes in the 2nd half either, which I think was a matchup thing with Abdul Wahid being the best player on that night.

UW-Whitewater is new the No. 1 in the poll and by a healthy margin. 37 points is a lot of points for this early in the season with many top candidates. UW-Oshkosh in at 22 with 106 points and do not play this week. UW-Platteville received 25 poll points good for 36th spot you could say.

What is Pat Miller up to? He recruited this team, got them to Final 4 last year. Can this new coach run the WIAC gauntlet?

Pat Miller is working in the private sector.  He was ready for a new challenge and got an offer too good to pass up. Leaving on a high note made the time right.

With the football playoffs in full swing here I failed to report one basketball game so here it is:

WARHAWKS (5-0): 77
Ripon (1-5): 56

Chislom: 20 pts, 8 rebounds
Kelly: 12 points
M.Barnstable: 11 points, 4 assists
Capstran: 10 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists

Next: at Carthage tonight

I finally got the full scoop regarding Landon ValCaster and all I can say is wow and sounds like two wealthy families and his ex girlfriend beat him to getting an attorney so a restraining order led him to moving back to his parents house where he's staying with younger brother while parents live in Arizona. He wants to play basketball unfortunately it won't be at Point ever again! It also sounds like the Pointers could potentially be without 2 guards who see a lot of time as they have job offers and aren't overly thrilled about some things going on within the team. In addition, I was told by a source I know is truthful that Butler and his father whose a pastor met with Dernbach during summer and Josiah made it very clear he's 1 and done and that is goal is to play d1 basketball which is great I wish the kid luck unfortunately it's not helping build the program. Seth Miron is also telling kids on campus he's not playing basketball after this season and is going to see what schools want him as a QB which doesn't surprise me. If true that's a huge blow and there's so much more including no one on the team is having fun and it's just flat out chaos and turmoil and quite honestly in a way you can see it in their play with some kids only playing offense and zero d and also some kids being allowed to turn ball over 3-4 times in 5 minutes and others being pulled after 1 turnover. I want the Pointers to be great again or consistently in top 25 as bad as anyone but from sounds of it there's a ton of turmoil and unhappy kids and parents!

The strength of the WIAC has historically been due to veteran led teams.  Right now, which teams are truly veteran? And by veteran, players who have played multiple WIAC seasons.

I take your two questions very differently with very different answers.

I truly believe there are no teams are made up of all or mostly all veterans playing the majority of minutes.

However there are many teams who are led by at least two, veterans who have heavily played in at least two WIAC seasons.

River Falls is led by Hanson and Holland.
Eau Claire is led by Huschka and Casper.
Platteville is led by Pearson and Probst.
Whitewater is led by Chislom, Lambert, and Capstran.
La Crosse is led by Fuhrmann and Westra.
Oshkosh is led by Mahoney, Steckbauer, and Rindfleisch.

Stout has one in Fox and if you want stretch the definition of heavily even more you could say Buchanan and Makinen for Stevens Point.

ShineTime

I wouldn't be 100 % certain Buchanan and Makinen will still be playing basketball any longer after the semester from what I've been told both are graduating in December and would need to enroll in school for another semester and have job interviews in the next couple of days and plan to leave school if offered jobs! It's a different world now days for both players and coaches you have kids who feel entitled or have attitude just because I started last year or did this in high school I deserve to play and coaches are all guilty of lying to kids telling them oh we have to get rid of these kids they don't know how to win and then kids get there and no one gets cut and you have far too many kids on the roster leading to fighting amongst kids and parents being bent out of shape because they sat and listened to all the lies and promises!

Interesting stuff, ShineTime.

Anyways, Whitewater loses at Carthage after being ranked #1.

I truly wish I were kidding but I'm not and it's no guarantee both or either of those two kids don't return either but I'm positive the thought is there of if they get offered jobs they're gone which is insane thought and wouldn't have happened years ago but may with both after semester ends. Ask yourself though would you want to pay to go to school another semester when you don't need to just to play basketball on a team in disarray? Buchanan has his covid year also which kind of sucks if he plans to go. Miron isn't shocking either the kid was just the best qb in state last year and footballs his best sport. I'm stunned Whitewater lost but a loss early doesn't hurt either!

I don't agree. This could come back to bite UWW in the butt. Any loss, even for a team that seems predestined to make the tourney either as a Pool A or a Pool C, hurts. It could contribute to spelling the difference between hosting and not hosting, for instance.

Greek Tragedy

I'm not close enough to the program to know how what player is feeling what. Apparently, you are. If all that is true, it's disappointing. I have no problem if any student athlete wants to get a job and cut their college basketball career short. Obviously there will be some feelings when you're a player who started/played a lot and then your playing time gets cut significantly when a new regime comes in. I do wish them the best if they choose to leave for a career. I like Seth Miron, so I hope he doesn't bolt. But if he wants to play football instead, more power to him. I'm a Pointer fan, so I'll support whomever is there.
