Shinetime has been known for years for not knowing what he's talking about over and over.  I would be willing to bet it's a mix here, I can see some truth.

I don't know what happened to Van Calster, so this very well could be true.  Whatever it was, it was abrupt and happened right before the Purple/Gold game.  I hope Landon is able to find a place to play if that's what he wants.

Buchanan/Makinen - I could see this as a possibility considering some frustrations brewing.  Buchanan is a fantastic player, he's proved that.  But, he has been on an awful shooing streak this season and I'm sure that has been tough on him.  Makinen was a starter, now he's not.  He's lost minutes as an upperclassmen, i'm sure thats frustrating too.  This season and losing Coach Semling could have changed Jake's thoughts, but he has said multiple times on radio shows that he's playing is covid year next year.  Wait and see what happens there.

Butler - At the time of Butler committing to Point, with the transfer portal, I never expected Butler to stay at Point throughout his career.  He's a really talented kid that can obviously play at a higher level.  I see some comments on here making him seem like he's god's gift to basketball though.  There are more talented kids in this conference that haven't transferred out yet, like Barnstable at Whitewater.  With that said, I would expect Butler to get a scholarship at some point, have to wait and see when though.

Miron - This doesn't make any sense to me.  He's a starter and will be a focal point of the team moving forward.  He was a very talented football player in high school, certainly can play it at the next level.  But, he could have played both sports in college or just played football.  He made a decision to just play basketball out of high school.  Why would he change sports all together after a year off of that sport?  Playing Quarterback in college isn't something you can just step out and do.  At the very least, he'd have to sit a year getting comfortable with scheme before he played football in college.  Miron was committed to Oshkosh to just play basketball before Dernbach became Point's coach.  He committed after Dernbach became coach wanting to play for him.

Point had a roster of 25ish kids when you included all the recruits heading into this season.  With a completely new coaching staff and a large roster, players were going to leave.  That shouldn't be surprising.  Dernbach is obviously making the team work hard, some people can handle it and some can't.  I know I had a love/hate relationship with basically every coach I played for.

One thing I found out years ago when Dernbach was the assistant at Point, he will recruit.  He has brought in top kids at Point and La Crosse, with a couple months on the job at Point he brought in one of the most talented classes I've seen in recent memory of the WIAC.  He built up La Crosse into a top 25 program and those kids weren't leaving the program with eligibility remaining.  Dernbach needs some time, which should be expected since Point was 3-25 the last 2 years in conference play.  He will turn it around though.

If he does find another place to play, I can almost assure you it won't be at a UW-System school, which obviously rules out any of the WIAC schools...  As far as other schools, I'm going to guess his options are limited, and it has nothing to do with his ability on the court.

I don't agree. This could come back to bite UWW in the butt. Any loss, even for a team that seems predestined to make the tourney either as a Pool A or a Pool C, hurts. It could contribute to spelling the difference between hosting and not hosting, for instance.

The defeat adversely affects all the top teams in the WIAC, as each non-conference loss undermines the overall strength of schedule for everyone in the conference, thereby making Pool C bids more challenging to secure.

WARHAWKS (5-1): 73
Carthage: 77

Neither team played particularly well and each had single digit leads during the first half.  The WARHAWKS grabbed a three point lead with 1:06 remaining before Carthage finished the half with a free throw making the score to 29-27.  The  WARHAWKS held the lead for the first three minutes before the wheels fell off and over the next nine minutes the Firebirds went on a 28-10 run building a 17 point lead 61-44.  Finally getting on track the WARHAWKS responded with their own 24-6 run and with 1:56 remaining took the lead 68-67.  However that's the best it would get as the WARHAWKS missed two of their last four shot attempts and the Firebirds went 10-10 from the free throw line.  Free throws were a significant factor as the Firebirds were 23-29 and the WARHAWKS just 8-14.

Barker: 21 points, 4 assists
Chislom: 21 points
M.Barnstable: 15 points, 10 rebounds
Kelly: 9 rebounds, 4 assists

Disappointing to play poorly and lose to a team that had less talent than we did.  But I never expected we would go undefeated this season either.  How much it hurts us remains to be seen.  We lost eight of them last year and in the end it didn't seem to hurt us too badly.

No BS man and sure perhaps there's a possibility the now 2 people I've heard things from could be wrong but I only posted this as a disappointed yet hopeful Pointer fan. If  Buchanan were 6'3" or taller I'd take that kid any time to play on my team and you're correct he's struggling to shoot and I believe a lot of that is his height and not getting the best looks. Miron wise what I was told was he committed to Oshkosh for football and was there for a weekend visit and left there not liking a few kids and the coach and at that point realized he wanted to do something in the fall/winter so he's playing basketball at Point thank God! I'm with what another poster said why not play qb for Pointers and be the reason the program turned around again or stick with basketball because he's clearly going to be a dependable kid. I know you have to have 15-17 kids no matter what for practices and to account for injuries sickness, kids getting home sick etc. but apparently a lot of kids are bent out of shape that coach didn't cut kids leading to a few kids going to practices and quitting on their own once the realization came that they weren't going to play a ton. I have exact thought you have with Butler and my guess was he told coach he was one and done and once Josiah realized either he wasn't ready for d1 or the Pointers were building something great he would stick around. I'll never ever hate on a kid for chasing their dreams as long as they're realistic but with Butler is he looking to just say he made a d1 roster and average 3 points a game or does he want to play big time minutes at a reputable school?? Another thing I forgot to mention was I also was told Logan Baumgartner was recently moved to the 5 and isn't thrilled about it. I know I had brought him up how he tore it up at the scrimmage and the one guy said he's confused they moved him to 5! I'm in no way trying to say I don't care for coach Dernbach and I have total faith in what he's building and know it takes time.

When Miron committed to Oshkosh, it was for BASKETBALL, not football.

Yep, another good example of why this wasn't just something to shrug off or to paper over with clichés about "early losses".

Westra missed two at the line and Bethany buzzer beater lob and tap in is good. Stout did survive their scare against North Central. Platteville takes care of Ripon and Platteville is looking strong so far.

Greek Tragedy

Westra was 0-4 from the line. Ouch.

Bethany Lutheran is a good team. The top of the UMAC usually is, ask the MIAC. Tough loss at home though.

If he isn't happy, he should figure out if that bridge is burned.  He'd have had a meaningful role there this year, they've got multiple freshman contributing now and have several last year guards now.  Oshkosh invested heavily recruiting him and I heard they were shocked when he went elsewhere in June.

Does WIAC allow transfers within the league without restriction?

He has a meaningful role at Point. A real big role. We have 3 freshmen and a transfer starting. He could be a part of something big that started from scratch, basically. I hope he sticks around.

Baumgartner was brought up earlier as well so I will loop him in this comment.

Miron and Baumgartner both have family ties to UWSP, I'm sure that played a part in where they ended up and will make it a little bit more difficult to walk away.

Shinetime's "source" is obviously atleast a little out of the loop on Miron considering him thinking he was committed to play football at Oshkosh, which wasn't the case.

The WIAC changed the bylaws this summer and now allow immediate eligibility for a one time transfer (if they meet all the other transfer requirements).  But they can't transfer in the middle of the season.

The old bylaw allowed a transfer after the freshman year, but not after that.  They would have to sit out for a year.

As we are a few non conference games away from the conf season, I am predicting UW Platteville to be the conference champ this season.  Having a fairly consistent roster (& veteran coach ) over the past few years will benefit them.

Thanks. I hope things are good  in Point. Losing is hard, but time can heal that.
