While this isn't one of the strongest seasons in recent history for the WIAC, something that did catch my eye last night....

When you look at the semifinalists from the 2023 WIAC Tournament and then last night's games, you have all eight teams represented the last two seasons.  I'm going to guess there aren't too many (if any) other conferences in the Nation that have had that happen.  If nothing else, it does speak to the the depth of the conference!

The WIAC may have fewer teams near the top of the national rankings than in recent years, but Oshkosh finished last and that is, by no means, a bad basketball team.  They played freshmen a lot of minutes and had some injury issues, but 10 of their 15 losses were by 10 points or less.  I suspect you could put any of the 8 in an NCAA tournament first round game and they'd be awfully competitive.

Seems like an odd time to resign at Eau Claire with the new facility coming.  Anyways, good luck to Coach Siverling.  I was a big fan of a lot of the things he ran on offense, was a tough team to guard.

This is a stunner. What an opportunity for Stackpool this spring and summer. Newer AD, who knows what direction Eau Claire will go in.

Greek Tragedy

I hope he finds another coaching job. Maybe he can find a smaller conference and compete for a conference title. I imagine it's tough to compete in such a premiere conference like the WIAC and usually finish in the middle or bottom half every year.

Real tough loss for the Pointers last night. They battled back and nearly tied it at the end. Maybe just a bit after the horn? I do kind of compare this to the Packers. Both really young teams, they have a new QB after Rodgers, Pointers get a new coach. No one likes to admit they are rebuilding, but both were. We both made the post season and won a game. I think the future is bright for both. Coach Dernbach seems to have the team headed in the right direction. Something to build on.

I will be rooting for River Falls to upset Platteville tomorrow. I would like the WIAC to get two teams in the Big Dance. Platteville is safe for a Pool C spot and would probably still host the opening weekend. They could host both weekends if they win.

Congrats to Platteville. They've been the class of the WIAC. Time to rep the WIAC in the big dance. We only need one team! Good luck.

Platteville wins WIAC Championship game 97-74. Game was tied 37 all at half. Platteville went on  21-9  run to open the 2nd half and they kept their foot on the gas for the rest of the game. Logan Pearson led Platteville with 21 points followed by Brady Olson with 15. I don't know the criteria for hosting NCAA but I think Platteville has a good chance to host the first weekend of the NCAA tournament.

Palum--I was hopeful for a half. We were clearly unable to stop the Pioneers after that--too many weapons.

Good luck to Pioneers!
