When is the Oshkosh pre-season walleye fishing tournament?

Jeremy has five years in which to complete his eligibility if I understand the rules correctly.   So the year he wasn't on our team and the year he sits out do count.   No offense intended and I had hoped he would get more opportunity here but I just don't see him as having much impact in the WIAC.   Good kid though and I wish him the best.  Perhaps in a different system he'll flourish.

Several of you have expressed your concern about Voice's situation.  If you'd like to see an update I've left a link on the football forum.  Or you can go to Warhawkfootball.com and click on news wire.  Basically the word is good.

I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that I don't know if La Crosse has a preseason intersquad game.  At any rate, I'll be out of town most of this week.

The WARHAWKS intra-squad scrimmage will be held tomorrow (Monday).  Women at 5:30pm, men at 7:30pm.

We've added a new scoreboard in Williams Center and will now be able to display each player's points and fouls.

Mr. Downtown

First question: Whose going to media day on Thursday?

Second question: Is it just me, or was it last we knew who the top 25 teams were? I dunno know, i felt like last year we talked about how Oshkosh was #2 for a week before media day. Perhaps the WIAC media day is early.

First Comment: Titan TV Sports won best sports play-by-play in the midwest region. So there you go UW-Oshkosh supporters, we can finally say we (and I) won something.

Second Comment: WIAC predictions, eh?

Well, give me sometime to figure out all the teams. But Oshkosh at #1 seems likely again.

I don't care what anyone says about Bryce Welch. The kid comes from small-town Wisconsin, in which the only way to get to his hometown is to get lost, and take a left. I was wondering why he didn't take the Scholarship to Winona in the first place? Did he honestly think he was going to start?

I've heard a lot of hype about the kid before he even stepped on the court, and this is my opinion. I think when it comes to the topic about hyping up a freshman, if the kid comes from a big-time, DI conference, and has promise, then yeah, bring on the hype. Because most likely he (or she for the women) was the probably the 2nd or 3rd best player, and someone had D-I or D-II schools taking a look at them. While at the sametime, they were playing against kids that also had D-I and D-II schools taking a look or they kids were committed there.

So before everyone goes on this rampage on how Oshkosh is going to suffer from not having Welch on the team...

Get real. Seriously, this team is going to start 4 seniors anyways, and knowing TVD's style, that 5th starter rotates anyways to whoever has the hot hand. And no...it won't be Matt Miller.

If you want hype, here's some. Chad Doedens seemingly has found an offensive game, Gibson didn't put anymore weight on, actually, he might have lost some, and Capelle looks a bit bigger (not in a good way).

Right now, I think Oshkosh is a top 20 team...probably right around 18. If they are in the top 5 again, I would like a detail report, Pat  ;)

The question I've got about this Oshkosh team is this:  What questions are floating around in their own heads?  This team was very highly touted last year, coming off a season two years ago in which they knocked off the defending (and future) National Champions and took them right to the wire. ... but last year, they were missing that hop in their step, or that quickness on defense, or that little bit of effort or... something.  I just wonder if they don't have a little bit of the Eeore syndrome... they feel bad about the situation they were in previously, and so, because of that attitude, it will prevent them from doing it again.

This team has "potential" to do some pretty good things... but potential earns you just about as much as a preseason ranking... squat.  Somebody with potential really hasn't proven anything yet, and I think this is where Oshkosh site right now.

That said, there are definately questions OTHER places throughout the league too... But this is the preseason, so it's better to have questions NOW than come February!

I'll think about it a bit more and post my picks for the league sometime later this week.

Oh, and Mr. DT, Pat said on the Top 25 board that it should be posted around Nov 1st (which would be Tuesdayish....).  That doesn't give us a whole week to talk about how Oshkosh is overrated, but it still give us a few days!   ;)

BW (or any other Warhawks posters), will you be at the NPU @ UWW scrimmage this coming Saturday? I can't make it up there -- I'm hoping to be watching North Park play in the CCIW men's soccer tourney championship match that day -- and I'd love it if I could get an experienced observer like yourself to post a firsthand impression of this year's NPU team.

Greg,

Unless my services are needed to give Voice a ride from the hospital to the football game I expect to be at the scrimmage.  Right now that's a little up in the air but if I am at the scrimmage I'll be more than happy to post my impressions of North Park.

I'm sure some of the nine freshman will probably "grey" shirt this year.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the only way they can "greyshirt" is if they are "cut" from the team and no longer practicing.  If they are listed on the roster, I believe the "greyshirt" wouldn't be available.

I suppose if they aren't listed on the roster a month from now, and they aren't "practicing" they would be eligible for the "greyshirt" though.

Actually the way the rule is written an athlete has 10 full time semesters (12 credits or more) in which to use their 4 years of eligibility.  The only way to get more time is to petition the NCAA as is the case in multiple medical hardships, or Military Service committments (UWSP Baseball-Josh Blaha/Perkins.)

Melzer Update:

France ... Rich Melzer will replace Brian Green (ankle) for the next six weeks at least. Melzer is known by French fans after having played the NBA Europe Live game in Paris with the Spurs. He posted 16 pts and 5 rebs for his first game with his new team.

You might want to get some of your facts straight since you are a "media" person...

First of all, Welch turned down a scholarship from Minnesota-Duluth, not Winona State.  It's a BIG difference, considering Winona St was the D2 National Champions last season, while UMD struggled to finish above .500 (15-14.)

Ever heard of a thing called AAU??  He was competing against kids from all over the US who had scholarship offers to D1 schools in the major conferences and held his own just fine.

Since you are an Oshkosh guy, have you ever heard of Brad Clark?  He came from a D3 school (Markesan) who had a lot of hype before he even stepped on court (sound familiar??) and proceeded to be a three time 1st Team All WIAC.

I'd be willing to bet Welch would have had a similar impact had he stayed at UWO.

I don't know about this Welch kid but Brad Clark was a stud.    Small school players can certainly flourish in the WIAC and if you take the time to research it you'll find several who have.
