Regarding Nonemacher in the NBA: that is downright ridiculous.  Anybody who watches the NBA and has an ounce of common sense knows he will never make it.  Don't fool yourself into thinking that there is some shortage of 7 foot white guys in the world.  For instance, Luke Schenscher, who had a standout collegiate career at Georgia Tech recently got cut, as did Nikoloz Tskitishvili aka Skita who at one time was a top10 draft pick. Hell, isn't one of Stout's assistant coaches a 7 footer who spent a season or two in the D-League but couldn't cut it??  Point is, it does take some extraordinary talent, in addition to 84 inches of height, to be an NBA caliber player.
Plus the fact that he is already 26-27 or so (I believe I'm correct) certainly doesn't help his cause.  Who would be more appealing to you: Nonemacher a 26 year old who averaged 12ppg in a D3 conference in which the second tallest player was on his own team? or a 7' foreigner who is 19?  Since neither would likely see any meaningful minutes anyway, I would take the flyer on the youngster.
And don't sleep on Przybilla.  Since he left Milwaukee, it appears that he finally realized what an "offseason workout" is.  In the summer he trains at a boxing gym in Milwaukee and is in the best shape of his life.  He actually is a legitimate NBA center now.
Finally, the point you made about NBA teams missing centers actually contradicts the point you were trying to make.  The Suns are the perfect example of the downsizing of the NBA.  No longer do teams want the traditional 5 setting up on the block ala the 80s and 90s.  The current NBA values the 5 who can step out and hit open jumpers and get up and down the floor with ease, not the traditional back-to-the-basket centers.  If anything the quest for any and every 7 footer is slowly becoming obsolete.

i think you are missing my point.  My point isn't that Nonemacher is an NBA player or ever will be.  THe reasoning behind him being scouted at all is his size, nothing more.  Teams are intrigued by that size.

I don't know why I am contradicting my point with the lack of center needs argument, I think it strengthens it.  What I am implying with the Suns and Sonics is that they are proving you don't need a center and that with 2-5 less NBA teams looking at centers Nonemacher is still getting looks.

Trust me I am not saying he is an NBA player.  Anyone without WIAC homer glasses realizes this, I am just defending the 'most ridiciulous post on this website' remark.  The implying that Nonemacher is a better NBA prospect than Melzer has substance though it isn't based on talent but size and size alone

I wrote and I quote....

"This might have been the dumbest comment someone has ever said on here. EVER!"

And putting Nonemacher and NBA in the same sentence IS and will be the dumbest comment ever. Simple as that.

Melzer has spent time in NBA training camps, and likely summer leagues as well.  I will run naked across the Stout campus if Nonemacher ever does the same.  Thus, Melzer = better NBA prospect.

I'm not trying to speak badly of Nonemacher - I actually have quite a bit of respect for him and his story -  I just think some people might be grossly overvaluing height in this case.

Mr. Downtown

As you guys flap your gums about Nonemacher...

Andrist said at Media Day that he is fielding calls almost every day from the NBA. Just before Media Day, he got off the phone with LeBron's Cleveland Cavaliers. So...there is more interest than you guys think.

Also, what we found out at Media Day as well, is that some NFL teams have been calling about Joe Werner.

As for the NBA, its terrible basketball to begin with, and its not fun to watch anymore...so the biggest question is...who cares?

stoutguy

Forget about Jake and John being NBA prospects.  They are not, but because of their potential and size, they will draw interest.  What they do have is a great sense of humor.  I am standing on the court watching The Badgers warm up and talking to Jake and John.  Brian Butch walks up to introduce himself and John says "Every time I go to Appleton someone asks me if I am Brian Butch."  Cracked Brian up.  They really do look alike.

That doesn't surprise me at all.

Anyway, I think Nonemacher gets looks, as laxeagles said, simply because of his size.  There aren't too many of them around, but he would be a MAJOR project, in my opinion.  Could you see Nonemacher trying to guard Kevin Garnett or Jermaine O'Neal out on the perimeter?

I can't believe I'm agreeing with laxeagles on SOME of his statements!  ;)  I'm definitely not trying to rip on Nonemacher.  He has surprised me the last year or so.  But, in the WIAC and D3 in general, and possibly in college basketball, he wouldn't have to worry about defending those type of guys at all.  He can do what he does best and that's sit in the post and block shots.

No one is going to argue that Nonemacher has more talent than Melzer.  Since we are talking about tall white guys (  ;D ), is Kerry Gibson getting any calls?  he seems to be a more polished player than Nonemacher.

Old School.  I have no idea what he is doing there.  I will ask him.  On another note, your coach Bob was very impressive and cordial on Media Day.  We had a nice chat regarding our mutual friend Jack Bennett and what he is up to these days.  Looking forward to using Jack as our WIAC source on Western Wisconsin Sports Saturday.

Greg,

Here's my thoughts on North Park

The point guard is very good.  I understand he's a JuCo transfer and he should help your team.  He's very quick, handled the ball against pressure pretty well and he can penetrate making some nice passes to your post players.  One post player was a load to handle.  I don't know his name but he's about 6'3-4" and a wide body.  He was the frequent benefactor of your point guard's penetration assists and was very physical.  Very soft touch around the basket.  Those were the two that impressed me the most.  As a whole the team looks athletic.  They shot pretty well from the perimeter.  One of the subs (#11) had a good three point shot.  They didn't seem very tall and depth may be an issue.  Defensively they had some problems handling our size but were pretty aggressive and forced their share of turnovers.

I don't really know your league that well so it's hard for me to project how they might finish.

The WARHAWKS won the scrimmage but only by 7 points.  In the first half North Park led most all of the way and were up 7 with 3 1/2 minutes remaining.  But we forced some turnovers, you missed some  shots and we ended up winning by 3 points.  The second half was the opposite.  We got up by 11 and held a 7 point lead with about 2 1/2 minutes left but had three straight possessions that resulted in 4 missed free throws and a turnover so you guys caught up and trailed by two.  Fortunately we made a pair of free throws to conclude the scoring, winning the half by 4 points.

Your subs waxed ours in the third 20 minute period.

If you were looking for something more specific give me an idea and I'll try to address it.

Good luck on the season.

You chastise us for flapping our gums, and then take Eddie's word for it?  Hey, I've got a condo in the Everglades you might be interested in.

Thanks for the warning.  Maybe that explains the burning cross in my front yard when I returned home a few minutes ago.  Those football neanderthals must have my address.

So does TVD fish in those Professional Walleye Tour tournaments in the summertime?  I know the sports equipment manager at Oshkosh did and actually wins some cash every once in a while.

I'm glad the D1 programs in the state are willing to scrimmage us.  It makes us better small college teams, I believe.

Not sure how much Stout got out of their 81-33 waxing in Madison...or whatever the score was.  :P But, you never know.  On the front page a D3 team beat a D1 team in an exibition and Point would've knocked off Marquette a few years ago had it not been for that guy Travis Deiner! ;D  The Point women also played well for a half against the Badger women.
