I definately did not expect Point to name Bob Snelling coach.
Semling must have been suprised !!

According to the very reliable Stevens Point Journal, there were 19 applicants for the job, but Semling was the only one interviewed.

19 people wanted that job?  I guess the economy must be worse than I thought it was.

The time of year played a major role.  Obviously, in the spring it would've attracted much more interest.....like 100 or so applicants from just about every level, even DI.  I'm sure Bob is pleased that they are not going to go through this process in the spring where there is much stiffer competition.

Superior would kill to have 19 people interested in either of their head coaching jobs.    ;)

If I'm not mistaken the first day of practice is Sunday.

Speaking of 19.......

That's the number of weeks that NCAA DIII teams have to complete a season.  With the possiblity of playing on Feb. 25, that would technically be the start of the 20th week IF that team started practicing on Oct. 15 instead of Oct. 16.  Those teams practicing tonite(midnight) or tomorrow, better not have a regular season or conference tournament game on Sat., Feb. 25 or they will be violating NCAA rules.  I'm not sure what the penalty would be, but I'm sure it's not nice.

Mr. Downtown

Yeah for expansion!!!

Now with 18 pool C bids, One would have to believe that the WIAC is going to have two teams in the Tourney

TBF,

You're right in saying that teams have a certain limit to the number of weeks they can practice, but teams can get by this by having a week off during the year (such as over Christmas).  I'm pretty sure several teams did this last season, and they were not violating any rules.

I suppose... that a team could, in theory, have started LAST weekend, if they had two weeks off at a certain point during the season.  I'm not saying that this would necessarily be the BEST thing for a team to do... but say a coach gave the team finals week and then the next week (Christmas) off... They could start even an additional week earlier, wouldn't they?

Whats going on at EC...WBY website is reporting that Buck Smith, Colin Walsh and Kale Proksch have decided not to play this year....

Point Special, I believe even in the situation you describe, there is still an Oct. 15 deadline you can't predate.

Thanks Pat... Duh, there would still be an earliest starting point (which was the starting point that teams started at BEFORE the NCAA mandated the 19 week season) I dunno what I was thinking.

Anyone heard if there are any players who have decided not to play this season?  There are a few high profile returning players in the CCIW that have decided not to... just wondering if there are any in our league.

Winneconne, isn't Coach Gibbons the one in conference that will never place a player on the squad that he didn't recruit?  If memory serves me right a few years back he cut Walker Flannery from Antigo who was a much better player than numerous players he kept that year.

That will be a huge loss to an already depleted EC team from last year

In response to the residency question, it normally takes a student a full year living and working in the state of Wisconsin to earn residency.  I'm not sure if they have to be an independent for tax purposes.  It doesn't help having a relative in the state (unless the student graduated from a Wisconsin high school and his or her legal guardians still live in the state or are buried in Wisconsin), just like it doesn't help to own land in Wisconsin and live in another state.

UW-P does not have reciprocity with Illinois but has some tri-state program with Iowa and Illinois, where they are charged a premium above the in-state tuition level.

I think this is going to be a very interesting year for the WIAC.  The prospect of having two teams in the postseason is the best news we've had in a long time.  Not that it's a guarantee, but at least the teams have something more to play for.  I think everyone is interested to see what's going to come out of UWSP, and it will be interesting to see how the upperclassmen for UWL do with some experience.  The conference will be exciting as always!

I have also heard that some UWEC players are not returning this season.  They were going to be towards the bottom of the conference even with these players back.  However, with the absence of them, I think UWEC will be fighting with Superior for LAST place in conference.

When assistant coach Todd Oerlien? left, the program went completely down hill.  Todd worked his butt off, unlike Gibbons.

Hello everyone.  I'm new and have a fairly uncreative username, but hey I know everything you'd ever want to know about Platteville Men's Basketball.  Welcome me!

Hey P-ville guy,

How is the team looking this year?  Any chance of them doing anything similar to last year or is it a rebuilding year?  Nobody's talking about them, so I'm assuming they aren't going to make much noise.  Enlighten everybody.
