TBF, too many questions at this point for anyone to know much about the upcoming season for the Pios.  Losing the likes of Reitzner and Temperly plays a large role in this.  We'll know more when we beat Milwaukee.   ;)

I've seen nothing but progress since Combs took over, so I would anticipate another hard working team this year that will be competitive on a nightly basis.

So, what are the odds of the UW-Oshkosh Titans winning the NCAA tourney?  I looked in Vegas but they didn't have any odds.

You're right, his teams do play hard and tough.  I'm sure with their resources they'll scratch together a pretty solid team even in a so called "down year".  It'll be interesting watching all of these exhibitions with the Wisconsin DI's.  I wouldn't mind if one of the "little guys" made the ESPN announcers do a double take on their score.

So I was glancing at the practce roster for UWO, and man do they look strong.  I knew that Matt Miller was planning to come to UW-O, his older brother played such a large role into the Titan success in the past. So I googled Matt Miller, and found that he was a first team WBCA All-Star, so I go to looking at past years and found that both Andy Jahnke and Chad Doedens were both WBCA 1st team allstars.
Other revelations: UWO will dominate this conference for the next two seasons, back to back championships is not a stretch for this team. After this season you only have Jahnke and Pete Warning leaving. Janke will be replaced by one of the 3 Johnsons and Warning will be replaced by Jordan Wypiszynski. As a side note to Warning, it's almost impossible to replace a guy like that. He is a force in the post and a guy that is very tough to muscle out in the box, he compares to Nick Smith in size with a tad more touch around the basket. 6-7 250lb. athletes that can run the floor are hard to come by and Pete deserves the big senior year he'll get playing opposite to Kerry Gibson.
This team is just going to flat out dominate the conference barring any injury or quitters(Kyle Pederson)

GOD, I miss the WIAC so much, I'm looking forward to the UWO women coming down here(Atlanta) to play emory, but man do I miss this conference.

Kluch-I think the play of Capelle will determine quite a bit, but this year's UWO team should be in the mix at the end of the year.  There's probably a couple teams who have a little to say about UWO "dominating".  I think 'dominating' is a pretty strong statement, but we'll have to wait and see.

Give me one team that can match up with Oshkosh, man for man, talent level to talent level, experience to experience.
Yes, while I agree that Capelle has far and away the most overall talent on the team, he is far from being alone on the court.

There is a rumor circulating that the rest of the league is simply going to concede the championship to Oshkosh.  I'm not sure about the national championship though.  They might have to play their way through that one.   ;D

Let the season begin, please so we can actually have something to say without speculation.

I saw in the Royal Purple that Gio Riley got a drinking ticket.  Will this affect his season?  I didn't get to go to Midnight Madness, and haven't seen him in the weight room lately.

Wish that I could read the future looking at a roster sheet.  At least I know that Melvin Williams can squat 275, which is more then me.

Hello everyone... LONG time reader, 1st and maybe last time poster.  This one dug at me, well after I was finsished laughing.  I like Pete Warning... I do.  I think he plays hard and does a lot of the things the WIAC is known for from a blue collar point of view.  However, we're talking about a guy who played 11 minutes a game in 04-05, and averaged 4 pts and 1.7 rbs per game... hardly stats for a guy how isn't "replaceable."  I want anyone who watches UW-O play this year to let me know if they EVER see him do anything in the post beside going over his left shoulder.  He will either go with a move directly to his left shoulder or fake right shoulder and go left.  If he was more than one dimensional, you may see his numbers jump.  With that reply in place, I hope the best for Warning and the Titans.  Go Oshkosh and WIAC.

I'm with badger.  The rest of the league is just playing for second.  Perhaps we should all cancel games with the Titans and save the gas money of going there.
Seriously, the Titans will be severely challenged by WW with a possible push from Stout, LC, and maybe even those pesky Pointers.  Looking forward to the start of roundball and hoping the Pointers can finish in the top half of the league.  If their big guys can learn quickly they may be a team to watch out for come tourney time...

Mr. Downtown

Hey Kluch..miss ya here in Oshkosh..

a couple of teams to look at that Oshkosh

Stout
Whitewater cause they run up and down the court.
Platteville cause they play pretty good defense.

The interesting thing i wanna see is how Oshkosh does with the target on their backs.

And if Oshkosh's success is going to be on Jim Capelle...then things will look real good for the Titans   :)

Downtown-
Isn't the target on the Pointers or the Pioneers?

The impression that I got from a spectator at "Midnight Madness" was that UWW has the talent to do some damage in the WIAC (Miggins coming back really helps), but they don't play like a team.  I told this person that it was A-typical of the most recent teams for WARHAWKS.

I posted before that it seamed like UWW the past few years would play good games when it seemed like they has something to play for.  They beat UWSP when they were ranked #1, but then lost stupid games to Oshkosh or Superior.  I hope this formula changes, because I feel that talent alone will not win championships.  Some players have to play certain roles also.

John Gleich

UWW4ever,

Noone has ever doubted the talent at Whitewater.  Year in and year out, they have some of the most talented and athletic players in the conference.

You've pretty much hit it on the head though... many times the downfall for the Warwawks has been the fact that they've relied on their PERSONAL talent and athleticism rather than relying and trusting their teammates.  I've seen on many occasions a player try and take a ball all the way to the whole or possibly force up a contested shot when a teammate was open for a better shot.  This is one reason why WW has tended to plateau towards the middle and end of year is that they have continued to be great individual players, but they have not necessarily improved as a team, while the other teams in the conference have.

I can't wait to see how things filter out this season.  Should be another great year in the WIAC!
