Would you agree with me in the end, Old School, that it probably won't matter if Point has only played 24 games, compared to the rest of the WIAC and most of the nation with 25? They've already beat the best teams in Wisconsin, which is pretty good sign that as a team they will be ranked pretty high in the regional rankings.

How about Elmhurst? Perhaps someone in the WIAC can take revenge on them knocking off Oshkosh and Whitewater.

Considering that the cancelled game was against a D-II school, yeah, it doesn't matter, in terms of what the NCAA tourney selection committee has to say!  Elmhurst has 25 games scheduled already!  >:(  Playing Augustana is going to be huge on Saturday.

Mr. Downtown

I know with holidays and all, that it's a tough time to get anything done (as I'm typing this post at work), but just wondering if anyone knows when they next top 25 is coming out?

Pointers trail Northern Michigan 88-72 with 4:33 left.  Sounds like NMU's size is just too much for Point to handle.

Thanks Justbill.  I was listening during my lunch break, and it sounded like Point was playing really good defense there for a while in the first half when they cut it from 12 to 2 or 3, but it sounded like there were a few calls that possibly could have gone either way or not been called at all when the lead jumped back up to 10 in the first half, esp with Krull getting his third foul, and that may have been the turning point.  It did sound like NMU was getting quite a few offensive rebounds, especially early.

Be sure to let me know if Point makes a miraculous comeback, k?

Pointers fall to Northern Michigan 101-92.  Point got as close as seven late in the game, but NMU made nearly every free throw down the stretch.  Point never let NMU run away with it, but their inside game overcame Point's outside shooting.  I can't recall the last time Point surrendered 100.  It must be at least a few years.  Anyone have that answer?

Just checked the website, and the nearest result I could find was a 95-89 loss to UW-Stout in OT on the road 1/20/01. (Nothing in the archives about most points ever given up in a single game).

For those who are interested. The Titans are leading Tri State University 37-16 at the Half.

Heard the Titans beat Tri-State, 80-50 (per UW-Oshkosh site).

1991!

Game Story

Tough game for Point today.  Swampgoon and I took our passports, packed the French to English dictionary and headed to Marquette, Michigan to see Point fall 101-92.  Northern Michigan's Ricky Volcy is a monster!  He went off for 32 and 13 boards and at times, it almost seemed like he was toying with us.  No disrespect to Point, but he was unstoppable.  The 6'8" (maybe 6'9") guy had NO PROBLEM launching from 3-pt land and hit some real long range shots.  Luckily, Point won't run into anything like him in the WIAC...and he's a senior, so when NMU comes to Point next year, we'll see how they do! lol  >:( ;D  They had other solid players who did their jobs and scored when they got the looks.

Point's defense was hit and miss, but there were way too many easy baskets for sure, and not just from Volcy.  One stat I can't figure out is how Point outrebounded NMU, that seems virtually impossible!  Point was down big at times, but always seemed to make a run, but NMU did enough to stop that run and make their own run, pushing the lead back to double-digits.

It's a nice facility, but different since the basketball court was set up inside the hockey rink.  They had 3-row bleachers around the court, but Swampgoon and I sat behind the penalty box...I think the place holds 4000 or so, but it's pretty open since it's for hockey.  Besides, the 250 fans there (which was generous) really makes the place look empty.  I think there were about 15-20 Pointer fans there.

Good luck to La Crosse this weekend...not sure if any of the LAX posters are going.  If it weren't for other obligations, I'd probably drive out there!

Anyway, La Crosse needs to do some representin', representin...

And of course the rest of the WIACers in nonconference/preseason play! lol  :o

Check out the box score from Carroll/WW.  Sorry that there is no link, but Price goes 9 for 14 from three in WW's ninety something to eighty something victory.  3rd all time 3s made by single player.  Miller might have found a good rotation now, starting Toellner/Vernon/Price/Malachnik/ and Perry.  Gio of the bench for 14 minutes, Freund and Anderson also off the bench.  Made our free throws finally (23/28).  Hopefully these stat lines will continue as we get back into conference season (Price is a good off-guard to go with Malachnik or Gio in the backcourt.)

Happy New Year everyone!

OLD School: Sound like a game inGates Gym or UWL a few years ago, no one around. It really detracts from the game, which needs noise. Also, nice report from UWW fan. Thank you both. Happy New year and God Bless!
