This team doesn't have the stars that the title teams did, but the Pointers are putting together another nice season. They are no longer flying under the radar, if you can call it that, and are worthy of their status in the polls.

But maybe they should be ranked even higher. According to the Eau Claire paper yesterday, UWSP is 4-0 in conference, and 109-1 overall. Ooops. I knew they were good, but not that good!  ;)

I wasn't there either but listened to the closing minutes of regulation & OT on the radio.  I loved the enthusiasm of your student game announcers!

Regarding the MVP award, actually it was Schnettler's teammate, Mike Keating who earned the MVP award.

Your Falcons must be progressing nicely from when I saw them play at the Bethel tourney little over a month ago.  Good luck the rest of the season.

Drake--Thanks for the correction, but I think that's what the game story on the UW-RF site said--that Schnettler was MVP. I'll go back and check. Yes, the Falcons are progressing, so much so that stoutguy's lame attempt at poetry, obviously written by his wife or by Blue ?evil ?ob, will come back to haunt him soon. If he's a "professional" poet, I'm ®obert ƒrost.

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

Mr. Downtown

QuoteI'm looking forward to seeing Oshkosh twice (on Tuesday v Platteville) and Thursday v Grinnell.

Ok, Oldschool. You can't miss me this week!  >:( :D

I'll be wearing a suit for the Grinnell game (I'll be broadcasting for TV), and if you want, I'll be getting my crew ready for the Platteville game tomorrow. Just come on over where we are setting up, and ask for me. They'll know who to find.

QuoteTitans should be 12-2 heading to La Crosse. Then again that team should have been good for a long time now.

That depends on who you ask, and what is considered "good".

Last year's team flopped, yes. But if it wasn't for Conigilaro's amazing flop job, then it might have been Oshkosh in the tourney, instead of La Crosse. (And yes Eagles fans, I have video evidence that the man flopped like a fish out of the Mississippi river. Worst Call...ever.)

And this whole "JV schedule" did have some quality teams that will help out Oshkosh with its regional ranking later in the season (Carroll and Lawerence).

Yes, Oshkosh should be 12-2 (or maybe 13-1) after this week. But we'll see with the game tomorrow night against Platteville.

Fred - I first heard the announcement over the game & here's where I read about the CHS all tourney team:

First you call the poetry lame and then you say BDB or my wife must have written it.  If I were them, I would be really insulted.

Cubs,
TVD is not a great coach. He and his staff are great recuiters, but TVD is a very average coach. He looks better because the rest of the league does not have great coaching, either. And besides Point and maybe sometimes Whitewater, Oshkosh always has much more talent on its roster. MUCH more. That UWO team with Dworak, Miller, Scherer and Sowinski? That team SHOULD have won! How much more talent and balance can one D3 team have? The same can be said for the Jahnke, Capelle, Gibson and Kyle Johnson (oops!) team from last season. It's silly how good his players are year after year. Even sillier is how he consistenly has nothing to show for it, the nice Dworak teams not withstanding.
Watch the next time an opponent throws a zone at Oshkosh. You'll see seven coaches not quite sure what is going on. The 1-3-1 by Point had me in tears from laughter. Of all the ways to beat that zone, TVD tried everything you're not supposed to do (dump it into the middle at the triple team, dribble penetration (!), skip passes, wing-entry passes, setting up the offense on the wings, etc.). Drew Jackson made the Titans look pretty silly for about four minutes.
On offense, the Titans have three sets. Watch where Gibby sets up, and you know what the set is. Ninety percent of the time it's either No's 2 or 3. They have: 1) Skip to seal 2) Motion 3) High-low.
Three sets? It's a good thing he has better players. Granted, the three sets have options. But elite teams have more than three sets and have more than a man-to-man to throw at you on the other end.
Give Tharp at LU the talent Oshkosh has, and you'll have to buy a new trophy case. Hell, just give him Jordan Johnson and D.J. Marsh. Tharp is a great coach. TVD is not.
All this is not even considering the control he has over his team. Refer to last year for that comment.
Sorry this is so long, but when someone puts TVD, Jack Bennett and Bo Ryan in the same paragraph, I can't help myself.
Last time I checked, recruiting was part of being a quality college coach.... ::)

Anyways, it sounds like you have everything figured out....  Why don't you see if TVD has an opening on his staff for you to you can show him what he is doing wrong.  My guess is is that you are a writer for the UWO school paper, who never laced up a pair shoes past the HS level, but yet you know the college game better than a guy that has coached for 15+ years at the college level.  Who are you going to rip on next?  Meyer, Lechnir, Schumacher, etc.....??

Oshdude, I see the same exact thing that you see.  (Except I see it about 5 times because of TV work :P ;D :D)

Yes, Oshkosh's offense is predictable, but look everywhere in the WIAC. This is DIII, not DI, so don't expect 15 page playbooks for WIAC teams.

And what's wrong with Oshkosh using a simple offense? Let's be real here, everyone in the media and fans alike WANT Gibson to touch the ball and have the offense central on him. Perhaps the reason Oshkosh is only playing with three sets is because that's all they need to do!

Also, the 1-3-1 zone deal. In order to break that, you need a good "2" guard to punish them for sitting in a zone. Right now, Oshkosh's choices are DJ Marsh and Matt Miller, and they way Miller's been shooting no team wants to sit in a zone. I'm sure that if a team sits in a zone against Oshkosh NOW rather than before against Stevens Point, then they will be able to manage around it.

The one thing this team doesn't need is higher expectations. Seriously, to all Oshkosh media that read off this board, and all Titans fans...THERE IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT!!

Perhaps, for once, we should be happy with the way they've been playing. Rather than trying to find something wrong with the team.

Mr. Downtown

And cubs...Meyer is never off limits to "ripping".

I agree........  If it wasn't for a certain Assistant Coach busting his hump as far as recruiting, game-planning, etc.. people would see W/L records eerily similar to those of Ron Cardo.

Has UWO's football record improved with the arrival of Meyer?  Absolutely!!

Is Meyer the one who should be getting all of the credit?  I don't think so...... ::)

EXACTLY.  Gibson can only stop himself.  If Oshkosh can learn how to score everytime Gibson gets the ball and dishes it off, they'll be fine.  But, I saw a lot of standing around out on the perimeter when Gibson gets the ball.  CUT TO THE BASKET!

UWP UPDATE: We lost by 4 last Night to Randolph-Macon in Virginia. They were highly ranked. We not only did not have Mr. Skemp, but Mark Gossens left with a bad ankle at Halftime. Looks like he will play Tuesday against UWO. If not we may be in serious trouble. Blessings and Happy new year!

Hey UWPSuperFan-any word on how Gossens ankle is? Is he playing tonight and if he is, how much of a factor will he be? Looking at their roster, it looks like Gibson will eat them alive because they have no one over 6'6" and that's Gossens and Skemp's replacement, Tetschlag, is only 6'5". Best of luck to your Pioneers tonight. I just hope they don't come out successful.  ;)
Don't give up. Don't ever give up.

Perhaps I missed the post, but did anyone else see that River Falls took St. Thomas to overtime?!?!?!

St. Thomas is discovering that they need to stay in their own conference.  Does anyone know if their star center played.   La Crosse beat them without him in the lineup.  I would ask FredFalcon but he is being a big smarty pants since he got that Mayor job.

Greek Tragedy

I don't think he played.  Their star center is a pre-season 1st team all american, so apparently he's really good.  La Crosse beat St. Thomas and the first thing that was said was that the guy didnt' play.  I thought it sounded like that was the big reason St. Thomas lost.  I got a lot of grief for it! lol (I think it was the top 25 board).  Anyway, St. Thomas seems to be the real deal and really misses the guy, as would any team with a 1st team all american missing.
