SORRY, A LITTLE LONG, BUT JUST CATCHING UP.  ;D

No coach in their right mind is going to clear their benches to start the 2nd half and it's not like Superior didn't have opportunities to score...if you read the play-by-play, they had a lot of "missed shots," while Point had a lot of "layups"!  The reserves played well, and even up by 40+, even THEY want to score.  It was Superior's job to stop Point's reserves and they didn't do a very good job of that either.  ;D

Quote from: plattbacker on January 05, 2007, 06:06:03 PM
It sure helps having all-state players "just" sitting on the bench too, as Point does  ;)

It has nothing to do with that.  It's about the system.  You get the right players to buy into your philosophy and I could go out there and play, well,  not horrible! lol  :D  ;)

Here's hoping that Oshkosh is looking ahead to Point Wednesday night in La Crosse!  ;D

Dream on. ;D  I think Oshkosh's depth will be too much.

What's up with Stout?  I'm not saying the Nonemachers are world beaters, but when you start two seven-footers, I'd think that would cause headaches for the opposition, yet they only score 11 points in the first half...quite honestly, that scares me going into tomorrow's game.  I would think they would be more successful with a lineup like that, and then adding Heisler as well...

I talked to a big Pointer and basketball fan at half time of the Stout/Point game and he told me that size/height is probably the most overrated thing in D3 basketball.  I guess I'll agree with this guy! :D But, size still scares me since Point lacks it.  They've played some pretty good interior defense with other players rotating and helping out.  Kudos to Semling for adjusting the defense (especially after Brian Schmitting from Ripon ate us up!)

Here's a question for the general public...

WHY IN THE WORLD DOES ANYONE ATTEMPT TO PLAY A ZONE DEFENSE AGAINST US????  I laughed when Lakeland did it last night.

Quote from: stoutguy on January 09, 2007, 08:32:46 AM
I would guess that Lakeland did because they know that their guys can not guard your guys.  It is a simple concept in basketball.  I would guess that Point could score 150 points if they wanted to in a straight up man to man situation.  Good athletes and good programs don't have to use gimics.  They can have a philosophy and then get players who fit.  I think that is what your program does very well.

I didn't mean to sound arrogant when I asked this question, but based on what Point has, playing zone would play to Point's strength, which is perimeter shooting.  Play zone and let Al-Amin, Rortvedt, Krull, Hicklin and Co. just "shoot away"?  I realize Lakeland was outmatched and they had a hard time keeping up with our guys (not in the speed sense, but just the fact Point's players kept moving).  Point doesn't have a lot of team speed, but they continually move and that's the problem most teams have with Point.

Is anyone gonna beat Point this season?

Quote from: badgerwarhawk on January 09, 2007, 09:19:12 AM
No offense intended but somebody already has.

Swampgoon and I went up to Marquette, Michigan to see the Dawgs lose to Northern Michigan.  After consulting with each other, we decided this loss doesn't count since Marquette is basically in another country and in another time zone, despite being directly north of She-Vegas.  I took my expired passport and Dave had birth certificate with him, so when we crossed back over the border, we could get in.  I also think someone spoke French to us.  :D :P

Quote from: stoutguy on January 09, 2007, 01:23:38 PM
I agree but I will always wonder why TVD allowed that to happen.  He had to know that going into this season SP would be one of the big guys.  Why he would go into that game without playing more nonconference games when Point had already played I think 4 just does not make any sense....Sounds strange since we just got thumped by the #1 team in the nation.  I just agree with the poster earlier who talked about the tremendous Point shooting.  All good things must come to an end sometime.  Oshkosh has more weapons inside and outside.

I don't think it has anything to do with "Point's on the schedule early..."  If the schedule permits, any team should play several games before playing any conference opponent to get the cob webs out.  I don't do Oshkosh's scheduling, so I can't comment on what had taken place for Point to be the 2nd game on the schedule.

I think you have a good argument about Oshkosh, but althought Point's outside shooting always get the "front page," you also have to realize Point has great inside shooters as well.  Beamish seems to be one of the best slashers to the basket, while Hicklin is a master of the mid-range (and near extinct) jumper.  Drew Jackson's mid range shot has also impressed me.

I enjoyed Mr. Downtown's stats on the supporting cast at Oshkosh, behind top dogs Capelle and Gibson.  In the first two games of the year, Jon Krull put up 32 and 25 pts.  I thought it going to be "Krull or bust" this year.  Thankfully, it isn't even close to that.  Hicklin, Rortvedt, Beamish and even Al-Amin can score.  I think Point just has too many scorers to contend with and I don't see a time when 3 guys go cold for the whole game.

Quote from: Mr. Downtown on January 09, 2007, 02:29:08 PM
In the last 6 games, take a look at the scoring numbers outside of Gibson and Capelle

Jordan Johnson: 58 points, 9.6 ppg
DJ Marsh;            63 points, 10.5 ppg
Dane Seckar-Anderson: 52 points (all coming off the bench), 8.6 ppg
Chad Doedens: 58 points, 9.6 ppg

During that same stretch

Jim Capelle: 94 points, 15.6ppg
Kerry Gibson:83 points, 13.8ppg

No one, and I do mean no one, in these last 6 games has been able to slow them down.
To be honest, I don't think La Crosse can.

A little skewed since one of those games was against Grinnell.  I'm not so sure DJ Marsh will go for 24 on a nightly basis! lol.

And I won't be there either, as I "volunteered" to be host to my wife's choir party.

Point's up 27-16 with 8 min. to go...according to the live scoring, that I also have up!

I guess I'll post that on the updates page.

Watching the webcast is better...at least the Point game!  Anyway, I'm trying to listen to 104.9 on the internet and they are talking really slow with a very low voice, not sure what's wrong with that...when I log onto the radio station, an announcement says what I'm listening to and that's all normal.  Anyone?

is it slow and low or normal?

It must be the coolest thing in the world to be in a WIAC Fantasy League...I sure wish I would've been able to be a part of that...Imagine what it would've been like when Dworak and Melzer and Iserloth were around...wow

Just Bill

The PLT/WW box score shows a technical foul on the Platteville bench, but then Charlie Lohoff of Platteville shot the free throws.  I'm guessing this was entered wrong and should have been a T on the Whitewater bench.

BW, can you fill us in?
"That seems silly and pointless..." - Hoops Fan

The first and still most accurate description of the D3 Championship BeltTM thread.

Brian Carroll

Brandon Brown knocked down the game winner with 18 secs. to play at Mitchell Hall. Neither team's offense got untracked in an exciting and fun to watch game. D3 hoops at its best. Congrats to the Eagles on a BIG win.

ItIsWhatItIs

UWW blew another one.  The technical foul was on Miller.  Platteville out hustled WW on the boards late in the game.  Non-existant second half offense and some interesting line ups (3 guards) cost WW the game.
