P-Ville hoops,

Sometimes its who you add, as much as who you lose, in determining the strength of your team.

Remind me how being #20 in the country is "being dogged" ...you lost your 2 top scorers and no one else really was a featured part of the offense last year? I know you are bleeding orange and blue but Platteville is not in Oshkosh's class this year. Oshy is a legit National Title contender...bringing back everyone who mattered plus adding Matt Miller (who is my early pick for Frosh of the Year w/ respect to Kori Vernon)
Platteville is getting respect....being ranked = Respect

P-ville Hoops.

If you compare all confrence tallent between Oshkosh & Platteville it is no wonder why the Titans are ranked higher. 2 all conference players and 1 honerable mention player are back. The Pioneers only have 1 honerable mention player coming back. The Pioneers lost a lot of scoring from last season.  It takes a team a while to integrate new players in to the mix.
The Titans return every one except for Ferny.  Ferny's points will be replaced alot easier than what the Pioners need to replace.  This is why the people who are participating in the pre-season poll are ranking Oshkosh so high.  Not to mention this team was the last team to beat the defending national champs. The conference semi-final game was also the closest game the Point had in the postseason.  I am sure that this had alot to do with why the Titans are ranked higher than Platteville.  It should be exciting on January 4th when these two teams square off for the first time.

Kek:
I was never arguing Oshkosh's being ranked  highly so much as I'm questioning the dramatic jump from 25th at the end of last season to 2nd this season.  Means 23 other teams lost a lot then doesn't it?  Also, you beat the national champs last, but who beat them before that.  Course before we did so did Whitewater, segway, I was trying to mostly draw attention to Whitewater's ranking as compared to Platteville's, not Oshkosh.  Waiting on responses from the Warhawk faithful as to why they deserve to be 13th.  Any defenders?

Finally got the national poll out ehh?

This is earlier than usual for us. We don't put polls out in August like some do.

Consider Rochester played in the national title game (lost BAD too) but earlier in the season played Superior in Rochester and lost, 72-67.  One of the worst teams in the conference beats the national runners-up?  God did we need this expanded tourney.

Consider Rochester didn't have its starting point guard for that game. Not the same team without him, to be sure.

Until both sides of the race card quit bringing up race at all times whenever something 'doesn't go there way' and trust me it works for the whites just as much as blacks, it will be an issue.  In the case of Hank Aaron race wasn't an issue till he brought it up.  Last time I checked Ezuqiel Astacio, Willly Taveras, etc. were minorities.

They're minorities, but not black.  That was Aaron's issue.

On another note:  I saw the NCAA DI poll is out and just like the D3 poll, the defending National Champions are not ranked in the Top 25.  I think it was the first time since 1988 or some crazy year that the defending champs weren't ranked in the Top 25 preseason poll the following year.

Pat,
Do you have any stats on that regarding D3?  When was the last time a defending champ wasn't in the preseason poll the following year?  Was there ever a case?  Thanks.

Interesting early season scrimmage today...stevens point at D2 UW-Parkside. Will anyone be in attendance?

Is Oshkosh going to be for real this year?  I'm asking because they might run into Wartburg in a tournament out in Vegas.  I know the WIAC is the toughest league in the country, so its tough to tell how anyone can do this early in the season, but I'm just looking for a little info on the Titans.  I remember seeing them play at the Clarke tourney last year and I wasn't too impressed.

Alright...I had an interesting idea today and wanted to throw it out there and see where it goes...I was thinking who would be on my all-time WIAC team, since I started watching the conference...So I thought it would be fun to share my thoughts....ONE CATCH...don't take any players from "your" team (so for me that means no RF)

So here goes
1999-2005

G - Merrill Brunson - PV
G - Sherm Carstensen - EC
F - Vince Thomas - Sup
F - Jason Kalsow - SP
C - Tim Dworak - Oshy

Give it a shot!!!

Not a bad list-since you can't add Melzer I will.  And also, Josh Iserloth from UWSP.  If I remember correctly he started the SP domination of the WIAC.

My list from 2001-2005 (but i will add my team RF)

Top 5 -
1. Rich Melzer
2. Tim Dworak
3. Jason Kaslow
4. Josh Iserloth
5. Kent Becker

Fred Falcon,
Get that damn comittee going on getting me a spot right on campus!

Mr. Downtown

I talked to TVD about the preseason rankings and he is somewhat questioning it as well. He knows he has an excellent team, but a team that had 19 wins last year is now considered the 2nd best team in the land? I had this Oshkosh team a top 10 team, around the range of 8-10, but not 2. Even TVD agreed with my ranking. Oh well, you can't really control how the voters vote sometimes.

Nonetheless...Oshkosh has WAY more talent then anyone could imagine. MIller gets a lot of hype, and is showing off his talent, but early word is that Jordan Johnson is better, Nathan Wessener is better, and another D-1 transfer for Oshkosh that for sure slipped under my radar.

Scott Gibson

Notice something?

Scott is Kerry's older brother. Scott went to Western Michigan on a football scholarship I believe. He is very talented, again...another shooter. He does have an injury past with a bum ankle. Though, you wanna talk about chemistry...I mean this team is already loaded with it and then you add in Kerry's brother after I have no idea how many times they have played in the driveway or on the court together...Heck...we just might not even know how good this team is...
