Blugolds lose by two, so let's go to the stats...

3 of 9 from the charity stripe. Oh well...

An impressive win for La Crosse tonight against an overmatched Platteville team.

The game was sloppy, as indicated by the low score.  La Crosse had a ton of blocks.

Yet another impressive display by Pete Rortvedt tonight.  Story and boxscore included in link.  And again, you could hear the opposing crowd be impressed with his unlimited range and hardly being shy from launching it from anywhere!

Great POINTER crowd down in Whitewater with many of the fans really getting into it, standing, cheering and booing some very questionable calls by the kids in the stripes.  Apparently you can foul a guy after he shoots a 3, but it's not a shooting foul...and I guess you can travel with the ball while still dribbling it as well.  That's neither here or there! lol.

A decent sized crowd overall, but the Whitewater fans are non-existent.  You've got the #2 team in the nation on the ropes, going down to the wire and you guys don't even bother standing up or cheering or anything.  I think the only times the Whitewater fans stood up was at halftime to go to the bathroom and at the end of the game.  I'll never criticize Point fans ever again.

Great game by Drew Jackson, though the stats won't show it and another solid performance by Cory Krautkramer...

Best moment of the game is when Kraut goes up and gets an offensive rebound.  Instead of throwing it back out on top to "reset" the offense, he does this ridiculous turn-around, fade away, one-handed shot.  Just as he's shooting it, one Pointer fan yells what we were all thinking, "What are you doing??!!"  And then the ball goes in the net!  I think it was still going up when it went in too! lol.  Too funny.

BTW, nice to meet Sue, and see frodotwo!  ;) and nice to talk to Badgerwarhawk again.

I voted for Freund/Price for best inside/outside combo, trouble is that Andy was benched and didn't play last night :)

I watched a little bit of the game on t.v.  One word (or two)-Back door.  How many backcuts did UWW get beat by?  They should have that in the play-by-play.  Toellner, beat by a back-cut.  Gio beaten by one.  Anderson/Mitchell/Vernon, all beaten by back doors, thought I was watching Princeton until one of the UWSP players would pull up for threeeeeee!!!!  They can shoot, that's for sure.  The only person who rivals their gunners is Price.

Good effort by UWW, I will always agree w/ old school and tell everyone that the only concern of UWW fans is where the next party is.  It's the culture of this university, the prettiest people in the world will come to the games because they are free and not say a damn word but can get drunk like the best of them.  I'm not pretty at all, but even I'm ashamed of the lack of enthusiasm, especially when some was created by Football and a tournament run last year.

Peace!

Absolutely you can.  I've seen it a number of times.

Reaction and observations: The reason UWSP is so special this season is the ability to win close games, like the one at UWW last night and at UWP a couple of weeks ago. They do not panic. It just shows you the potential of UWW has, to potentially win the conference tournament.IAgree with our UWW poster, they must play defense as well as offense. They could be good, but they are not consistent like UWSP and to an extent UWO. I see UWRF got Davis back, he must have passed his interim course. Good for him. I hope he learns it is just as important to be a good student as well as a BB player! As to my UWP, what a frustrating game to listen to. Our last guy off the bench got 5 points in the last 2 minutes or we would have gotten only 27. I think they need to wipe this out of the memory bank. II would not even look at the tape. I give credit to the UWL defense. As to fans, at UWW, I have been saying they are Bandwagons for Years. The team is playing average this season and no one comes out. Again, do they not count the attendance, or are they embarrassed to post it? We, UWP had a small crowd Saturday, but we listed it. Thank You and God Bless!

The real reason that you are in this happy, feel-good mood is that you had the insite to pick John Nonamacher for your fantasy team.  John had a monster game last night in Superior.  He told me to thank you for picking him.  I think you are his inspiration now ::)

Foul Calls: The two most common mistakes in BB are when to call several kinds of fouls. If you are fouled after the shot is released, it is not a shooting foul. I see this one or two times a game called, especially from the 3 point zone. This promotes taking a dive by the shooter. On the other hand, if the after the shot foul is not called, it allows the defender to get in a cheap shot that will not be called. The shooter is often off balance and vulnerable. The other kind of call, I do not like, is disallowing the FG when you are called for charging. If the shot is released before the contact it should be good. Trading foul for a layup is a good move for the shooter if he or the team is not in foul trouble. Thank You Old School and Bill for bringing this Up! God Bless!

Very true.  In fact, it is called incorrectly most of the time.  If the ball is released and the contact occurs, it is not a shooting foul.  Last night Jake got his 4th foul on that type of play.  Playing defense outside, his follow through on 3 point shooter and hit the kid in the face.  Incidental contact but it was the face.  Was a foul but should not have been shooting foul.

A small correction from stoutguy's post.  The "act of shooting" ends when the player returns to the floor, not necessarily at the release.  So, making contact with a player who has released the ball, but is still in the air is a shooting foul.  Contact with a player who has completed their shot and is already on the ground is not a shooting foul and should result in the ball out of bounds or bonus free throws.

Thanks for the correction.  You are right and I should have mentioned that.  Not that it matters, but that  call gets a bit more complicated when that 3 point shooter has not left the floor in the first place.  That does still happen.

ItIsWhatItIs

First, I don't know how anyone could vote for any other duo other than Krull and Rortvedt, but that  is what makes basketball great...differing point of views.

The question I would like answered is : "what makes UWW so inconsistent?"

The backdoor cuts and baskets they gave up last night were embarrassing.  The one that sealed their fate was the cut made by the smallest man on the floor for a layup with under a minute to play.  Point moved well without the ball and UWW's offense looked very weak.  If you dont have movement, then you better have at least one person that can fill it up...and luckily for UWW they have Price and sometimes Anderson when he gets floor time, otherwise this team could be marginally worse.

Pure talent alone can't win games consistently. ..maybe I have answered my own question.

badgerwarhawk

Our offense looked weak despite scoring 80 against a team that allows 65 on the average?   It's probably just me but that doesn't make much sense.

I give Point alot of credit.  They took care of and moved the ball better than any other team I've seen this year.   I wouldn't argue that the back door baskets didn't hurt but would they have won if Rortvedt wasn't 7-11 of from different zip codes?
"Strange days have found us.  Strange days have tracked us down." .... J. Morrison

ItIsWhatItIs

They did looked weak, they scored 80 because the game was a free throw shooting contest for most of game and Price carried them offensively...he helped them to 80 despite a lack of offensive movement of their part.  Rortvedt had a lot of uncontested shots...you cant give good shooters those looks...it wasn't like he was hitting from NBA range with people draped on him.

I would say yes, Point would have still won even if Rortvedt would have went 3 of 6 from behind the arc because the system they run is better than what UWW is running.
