PioneerHoops, I love the idea: I'd take that class every semester if it was offered.

On the subject of Kolf and student sections and such-I realize Albee would be a different atmosphere: kinda like the old Fieldhouse at Madison. I think one main reason students don't come to the games is they flat don't care or they're too busy drinking. The bulk of the students you see at games are other athletes or friends of the players. And that's really a shame. People, students in general, have a misperception that D-III b-ball is gonna be boring (especially considering the Bagers success this year). Quite contrary. I really don't know what could be done to get more students to come: articles have been written in the A-T begging students to show up and so forth. The only true "student section" at Kolf this year was the last game against Stout on Senior Day. It seems that's the only time the students truly cheer and make noise.
Don't give up. Don't ever give up.

As lame as it sounds, I kind of wish one of the req's for RTF would be a course in bb/fb coaching or officiating (if they had such a class). I think it would really improve the quality of a broadcast. As for the WIAC student fans, I don't want to make the generalization that nobody cares. I love the passion and dedication of WIAC fans, it's one of the biggest reasons I am such a D3 fan even though I live x the street from the USCell and the Bradley Center. Kolf Krazies has been an idea that was pitched around in the past, but again, maybe that's something the AT or RST/TTV could get invoved in. Work out some underwriting to get the shirts made and give them out at the game. Start a big blitz for a particular game "Krowd the Kolf", etc ...

Dammit, I miss Oshkoh. (and not just for the Western Burger at Player's)

Here's a radical idea, offer a 4 credit per semester class, so this will be a year long requirement for students.  In this class in the fall, you study and breakdown football teams and figure out how each one places itself in the mess better known as BCS.  attendance is required as is community service.

I'm affraid too radical, you would become the laughing stock of the nation.  But, I saw on the Letterman Show once that some school in Ohio, I think, offers a class in proper hand washing and others in basket weaving, so why not give it a shot!!  :)  However, the BCS being the mess it is, I think including it in a class for undergraduates would be too far over their heads.

I'm old school here, no offense to our Pointer buddy who posts here...

But back in the days when I had to walk to school, both ways up hill, mind you  ;), we students had to pay to attend basketball games. And the drinking age was 18, so we could use that as an excuse, if we didn't go; although, like it's been said earlier, we didn't hit the bars til 10 or so, anyway. But nowadays students around the conference get in free to games, right?

Maybe the universities should start charging students again?  :)

Seriously, though, I have no idea why they don't attend more in full force, UWEC students included...

With apologies to Joe Werner, I think Pete Rortvedt is making a late push for Conference Player of the Year.  I believe that Werner will still get it, but Rortvedt is preventing the voters from making it easy.  ;D

Hey OS:

Nice for me to also meet you on Saturday, if only briefly.  I understand though, you had Junior OS'ers to attend to.   ha ha ha

Curious for an opinion from the Pointer-crowd:  did Stout expose UWSP's achilles heel?  Should UWSP lose the rest of the way, including the NCAA playoffs, it'll come at the hands of a team with a dominant low-post guy.  Dominant means on both ends of the court.  On Saturday, UWSP lost the ability to slash to the basket and Jon Krull was only effective from 18-ft and out.  On the other end of the court, either Nonemacher was key to outscoring UWSP by 15 points over the last 30 minutes of the game.  Watch out for Stout . . . if they can capture that genie, they surpass UWW as the WIAC conference tourney darkhorse.

BTW, a shooter is in the act of shooting from the moment his habitual shooting motion begins until the moment he touches the floor, one foot on the floor constituting touching the floor.  Where this rule differs from high school, is that the player is in the "act of shooting" only until the ball is released from his hand on a shot.  In high school, the act of shooting includes until the moment the player returns to the floor. The implicaton being that when a charge occurs in high school the shot never counts.  The shot can count in NCAA IF the ball is released prior to the shot.  Clear as mud?

On the road following Oshy this week . . . lots riding on UWO @ UWW and UWO @ UWP this week!

Anyway, this is proud day for me. I've moved from "lurker" to poster. Quite the moment!

Nice to say hi to ya as well.  I thought you'd possibly make it down the hall to Berg, but I didn't see ya there.  Maybe get your take on the game in your view.

Yeah, that seems to be an issue that many of the WIACers know...regarding Point's inabilities to stop the low post threat in some games.  Gibson ripped them pretty good at Quandt and Joe Werner seems to have good games against them as well.  At Oshkosh, Point played well against Gibson and at Stout, Point got a big enough lead early to take Nonemacher out of the game.  Offensively, it worries me because if effects our post play and Krull.  I really think we need that presence.

Everytime Point gets exposed, Semling does a great job fixing the problem.  I remember when Point lost to Oshkosh and then "everyone knew how to beat them".  They haven't lost since.

You're gonna see some great games this week.  If Point wasn't playing, I'd be heading to Whitewater for that Oshkosh game.  I think Whitewater has a real chance to pull out a win and I can only hope that the fans come out.

Stout needs to be a little more consistent to be a threat.  They can have one really good game and then have one really bad game.  Team play is also needed on a game-in, game-out.

For what it's worth (not very much), here's my projection again.

The stats (found on the QOWI board thanks to our host, PC)

1   11.550   1   UW-Stevens Point   0.950 (19-1)   20-2
20   10.333   2   St. Thomas   0.875 (21-3)   21-3
22   10.300   3   St. John's   0.900 (18-2)   18-5
28   10.150   4   Whitworth   0.850 (17-3)   20-3
30   10.100   5   UW-Oshkosh   0.800 (16-4)   19-4
39   9.947   6   Loras   0.789 (15-4)   17-6
42   9.923   7   Occidental   0.769 (10-3)   15-5
54   9.684   8   UW-La Crosse   0.684 (13-6)   15-7
55   9.667   9   Coe   0.714 (15-6)   17-6
57   9.615   10   Redlands   0.769 (10-3)   14-6
67   9.400   11   Lewis and Clark   0.750 (12-4)   16-6
69   9.389   12   Puget Sound   0.778 (14-4)   17-5
73   9.235   13   Cal Lutheran   0.688 (11-5)   16-5

Not tooo much has changed, but I think Oxy drops a spot and Redlands may have a shot of sneaking in over Coe or La Crosse now that Puget Sound has dropped all the way to 9.389 in region. Redlands significantly better In-Region Win % might be enough to make up for their slightly lower QOWI.

I think St. John's gets ahead of St Thomas because they've beaten them and have a higher In-Region Win % despite a slightly lower QOWI.

The only hmmm... is that La Crosse's QOWI is pretty high, and they have 2 wins against ever increasing Oshkosh. I still think their In-Region Win % is too low to get the nod.

Here are my projections... lets see if I have a shot at being any where near as good this week as I was last week! :-X

1) Point
2) St Johns
3) St Thomas
4) Whitworth
5) Oshkosh
6) Loras
7) Occidental
8 ) Redlands

Thanks, Chmarx!

Should be a great game tomorrow at Augie Court. UWW is starting to perk up a bit . . . ever since BadgerWarhawk went at 'em with that fork!   Perhaps Coach Miller should bring BW in the locker room for a pregame speech!  ;)

That probably wouldn't be one of Coach Miller's better ideas.  :D

BoBo:

I know my idea is very radical and not very practical...but it's fun to think about the fact that some of us would've drooled to have something like this in school.  I'm actually surprised schools like Florida State or Miami (FL) don't have programs like this to keep their football players eligilble.

Andrew Wagner:

I agree with you about that, but I would also like to included the athletes themselves as well, so they also can get a better idea what the perspectives may be in their sport as well as others.

Don't know if they are still offered, but UWO had an "Officiating Team Sports" class that was taught by Terry Barth.  He would bring in a couple of the Head Coaches to give presentations throughout the semester.

They also offered a "Coaching Basketball" class that taught by Tennis Coach Steve Francour. ::)

Again, these were offered a few years ago, but I don't know if they are part of the curriculum anymore.
