I know you're tall and all, but you played baseball. I'm totally not drafting you for a 3-on-3 team. :P If you want to be on my 3-on-3 team, you will have to do something nice for me. ;)

I just feel honored to be able to chat with the likes of Diehardfan and David Collinge.  I'm no longer a "lurker" 8)

No posts about tonight's games yet, how long does it take Lax and Point people to get home.  I'm trying to be patient. :D

Two hours.  I also had to stand in line to get tickets.  I sent you an email, you didn't call, so I assume you aren't coming to Point Saturday.  You can probably call the ticket office and get some tickets.

Hah.... boy did I not ever want to know that Jason Kalsow would have read any of my posts where I lauded him for being the best thing since sliced cookies.  :-[

I can pretty much guarantee he reads this board.

chmarx and Brian Carroll...

You guys coming?  I owe you two a dinner.

Pretty intense game tonight at the Quandt as Point tops Whitewater 94-69.  The game was very close in the first half, but Point put the smack down after the intermission.  I missed the last five minutes of the game so I could go stand in line and get tickets.  The game story summarizes it better than me...the game, not me standing in line.

Jason Price loses a few notches on my "respect" ladder as he looks like he swears at the Point student section after hitting a three-pointer...in the first half.  Talking trash in the first half, nice job! lol  ;D  Point gets the last laugh though, and it'll be a huge game on Saturday.

La Crosse, I feel, needs to win to get in.  If they do, the WIAC will have three teams in the NCAAs.  I think one of the three will get shipped out to another sectional, hopefully!

The attendence says 1462, but I'm sure there were less than the 1200+ that showed up for Tuesday's game...unless a lot of fans dressed up as purple bleachers.

My favorite shot, aside from my wicked dunking abilities ::), was always the baseline 3pter. I believe I also led my team in steals due to my inability to resist the urge to swipe for the ball. I probably subsequently also led my team in fouls. :D My main problem is that I was one of those steriotypical F/Cs that have not-so-hot ball handling skills. I always hated that station in basketball camp. :D That all worked okay when I was like 5'6" and playing youth league basketball at age 10. When I didn't grow after 9th grade (at which point I was my current 5'9" all thoughts of me playing basketball after HS were pretty much gone! Can I borrow a few inches of your height? It might help our team a little... I used to beat up on the boys in PE class (basketball being the only sport I wasn't picked last for  :-[ ) but I have this odd feeling that playing against, you know, former male college basketball players might be just a little bit tougher. :D

Oh right, so I think the quick and dirty answer to that question is... seriously underused since High School! I promise to hit the gym tomorrow teammate!  ;D

Stout survivor

Old school we would haved liked to go but the weather does not look good for a trip like that.
My gf is from marshfeild and we were going to visit her folks and hit up a game, try agian if point should host in the NCAA's.

Stout does have the "War on 94" as our girls take on EC which should be a great game too.
You are only as good as the people around you.

I've been home for two hours... but you guys looked like you were having to much fun, I didn't want to break it up with any current events, or anything like that....

Point and WW was really a tale of two halves.  In the first half, it was a pretty back and forth game, and Price was really, really good.  He had 18 in the first half and every time it seemed like Point was going to pull away, he nailed a huge shot.  WW really pounded the Pointers, too, winning the rebounding battle in the first half by quite a bit (I'll quantify this in a bit...).  Point mustered up a 9 point lead twice in the second half, and the second time, with 4:28 to go in the half, Whitewater went on an 11-2 run and tied the game with Anderson's three pointer (the only three made by a Whitewater player not named Price all night).  Two Krull free throws on the next possession gave Point a 2 pt lead, but a missed three (rebound to WW's Vernon) and another missed three (rebound to WW's Vernon) led to a tip-in and another tie game with 9 seconds to go.  After the TO, Hicklin got free and nailed one of his 4 three's and Point had a 44-41 lead at the half.

In the beginning of the second half, you could see a determined look in the Pointers' eyes.  With the lead cut back to 1 with 11:13 to go, Point went on a 9-0 run, spurned by two Hicklin three's and good Pointer defense.

One of the great things about this year's Point team is that when they make great defensive plays, they push the ball and can suddenly put up lots of points in a hurry.  This is largely in part to El-Amin running the point (he ended up with 7 assists to just 1 TO... that's a 25-1 assist to TO ratio over the last 4 games...) but it's a great testiment to the ball handling of the other players out on the floor as well.

Whitewater managed to chip the lead back down to 6 with 14:35 to go (55-49) but this was as close as it would get the rest of the game.  The Warhawks made just 5/19 shots the rest of the way out and Point outscored WW 39-20.  This was sparked by three straight lay-ups that Whitewater couldn't counter and the lead stretched to 61-49.  The Warhawks scored on the next basket, but the Point was off to the races.

Point had more TO's than normal (10) but took care of the ball pretty well, especially down the stretch in the second half, when Whitewater went to a full-court, trapping press.  This just led to easy baskets, however, because everyone on the floor can pass so well.

Like I'd said Point came out and played much tougher in the second half... they got 10 of the last 12 rebounds of the game (unlike the first WW matchup at the Quandt when Whitewater erased an 11 point lead by grabbing 11 straight rebounds (both offensive and defensive) to lead by 4 with 16 seconds.  The heroics of Krull and Beamish (aided by WW's free-throw woes) starred on that night.

Speaking of Beamish... he only played 15 minutes tonight.  I believe his hand was injured earlier in the year, I hope he didn't hurt it again... I don't recall seeing anything in particular happen.  Maybe it was just the flow of the game, because Drew Jackson came off the bench and played 26 very effective minutes scoring 9 points, grabbing 4 boards, getting 2 steals, a block, and 2 assists.  Ironically, he played the exact number of minutes in the first Whitewater game in Point and 27 minutes at Kachel.  He is Point's most athletic player and really matches up well against Whitewater's quick, athletic players.

A couple general thoughts... Point misses the opportunity to take Hoelzel off the bench.  Scotty has been on the bench in street clothes the last few weeks with mono, and he really was giving Coach Sem some good minutes and some depth in the post.  However, Jerome Wotachek has been playing some very effective minutes.  He's been tough defending inside, has been the beneficiary of some nice dishes from Point's slashing guards, and he's created some points of his own by muscling some offensive rebounds and putbacks up for Point, who, other than Drew Jackson and Cory Krautkramer, really don't crash the offensive board with any amoutn of frequency.  To be fair, a large percentage of the shots are coming from deep, though in many regards this would make for more rebounding opportunities for guard-type players on long-carroms.

Finally, Cory Krautkramer has been playing the best minutes of his career the past few weeks.  He has been tough on the inside, but he's been pounding the boards hard.  When guys like Cory can come in and give quality minutes, then it means the starters are getting a break, and the quality of play does not drop.

One thing I'm worries about as we move towards the one-and-done territory of the (probable) NCAA tournament for the Pointers... (don't want to get complacent before Saturday's game!) is the Pointer's depth.  Only 7 players played more than 15 minutes for Point... and Point has had games where only 6 players have played as much.  The only reason why I'm worried about this is, during tournament time, when the games are on a Friday night, Saturday night schedule, if there's a close game on Friday, will the players be fresh for Saturday's game?  Now, everybody has to deal with this... but a deeper team will play fewer minutes collectively and especially for a team like Point who depends SO much on outside shooting (though they have seemed to be slashing and cutting lots more than earlier in the year), should they come up against a team that really packs it in and FORCES outside shots, and against a team that has tought inside players for whom leg-tiredness isn't as much of a factor in terms of productivity, they could be in trouble.

... Btw, that post took almost an hour... I started writing it at about 11:00, so that's my excuse as to why it arrives right now.

Love the game wrapup Point Special.  Saturday is going to be a great game!!!!  Guarding Werner is a problem for Point especially since he has a great guard tandom in Ask and Fehrenbach, doubling down is not going to be easy.  Look for Wotachek to get some big minutes.

Point with there seemingly endless shooter supply and (probably what i admire most) discipline with the ball and execution on the offensive end wears teams down.  Point Special hit it on the head with El-Amin hitting that extra gear catching teams off guard and getting some easy baskets in transition.

The Quandt should be rockin' 8)

DieHard, trust me ... I wasn't trying to earn a spot on the squad. If you need an SID or a Media Relations guy, I'm the man ... but ask any of the old WRST gang about my basketball abilities and they will show you an array of bruises and lacerations. What can I say, I play a very physical brand of ball with little ability to get the sphere through the circle. Thus, I became a writer ... something I'm only marginally better at.  ;D

'tis all.

Ugh,  if I never hear "back door cut by" this Point guy, that Point guy and that other Point guy again it will be too soon.   Good god almighty.

Congrats and good luck.  Thankfully our miserable season has concluded.

This timing is perfect.  Your season is over, mine is over, and Fredfalcon is done too.  Now we can get serious about our 3 on 3 matchups with all these young punks.  Chin up BW.  Like I told my radio partner about this "War on 94" that our women are playing.  It's hyperbole, it really isn't any thing like a real war.

Any thoughts from Oshkosh nation?  Any other thoughts from the LaCrosse faithfuls?

If he posted on the site, I'd say someone should pick up the coach....Ditka!  Probably could beat a hurricane 244 to (-)10, unless ofcourse the Hurricane's name was Ditka.

That's what makes Point so dangerous, you can't deny the pass around the perimeter, but if your even a half-a-second late ther goes the 3 ball.

I want to witness Stoutguy, BW, and Fredfalcon's training program ;) I'm in training too so maybe the can show me some things.  To bad for Stoutguy that in a 3-3 tourney, it's just a half court game,  we don't have to score at 6 different baskets set up all over town at 6:00am ;D
