A little story with the weather getting cold again and snow on the way.

Our grandpa spends the majority of winter in Hawaii so he can golf.  Every morning he hits the tee box about a quarter to 7 is done for brunch and then back to his place on the 9th tee.  Hawaii (or at least where he is at) is known for its wild donkey population and people like to use this in the names of local companies.  While we were getting ready to play at 7pm here he was settling in at a his usual spot that he would listen to our games at, the Surf'n Ass Coffee Shop.  He soon became so well known there that they would save him a spot on gameday's and while he listen to stoutguy and jake the snake (on WMEQ.com) he would sip his decaff made from the beans of the Bad Ass Coffee Company.  This internet cafe has a specialty that goes well with your cup of brew called Donkey Balls and he would sometimes get a couple (I guess they are delicious)

So there my grandfather is sipping some Bad Ass Coffee at the Surf'n Ass Coffee Shop eating a couple Donkey Balls listening to DIII basketball.

I could not make this up if i tried.
You are only as good as the people around you.

It makes me a bit sad to think that your grandpa won't be able to hear about his beloved twins anymore via that internet, but then I realize that the guy is in Hawaii so to hell with him.

Here's an update of the WIAC Pool C situation...

2   11.2500  1   UW-Stevens Point   0.958 (23-1)   24-2
34   9.7391  6   UW-La Crosse   0.739 (17-6)   19-7
38   9.667    8   UW-Oshkosh   0.750 (18-6)   21-6

Last night's win greatly increased LaX's standing and diminished Oshkosh's... I think it kind of depends on the (secret) final regional rankings...  Oshkosh was the second "duplicate" as far as multiple teams from single conferences being ranked... but if Point knocks LaX off for a third time this season on Saturday, it really depends on how soon the WIAC teams match up against other teams from across the country when they're on the docket for the 18 Pool C bids.  Fans who want 3 WIAC teams need to be HUGE Loras, Whitworth, and Oxy fans this weekend so that these teams (who will all seemingly be regionally ranked ahead of Oshkosh and La Crosse) get their conference's automatic bids and are not thrown into the at-large mix.

St Thomas is 23-3 in-region, St John's is 20-3, and both (currently) in the top 15 in QOWI.  They're both in, no matter who wins the matchup on Saturday.

Here are the regional rankings as of Wednesday.  They will probably change... I don't forsee Oshkosh keeping their #4 standing with the loss, and La Crosse will raise.  They could flip-flop... and that's why it's so important for other favorites in the West region in particular to win their Pool A bids.  This is equally as important IMO than if other Pool C locks lose throughout the country... because when it's time to look at who gets the at-large bids, which ever teams are at the top of the regional lists are the ones who will be scrutinized first... and if a team isn't on the top of their regional list, then they won't even get looked at compared to the other top 'o the lists from other regions.

West Region
1. UW-Stevens Point 22-2 21-1
2. St. Thomas 22-3 22-3
3. St. John's 19-6 19-3
4. UW-Oshkosh 20-5 17-5
5. Occidental 17-5 12-3
6. Whitworth 22-3 19-3
7. Loras 19-6 17-4
8. UW-La Crosse 17-7 15-6

EDIT:

I guess there was an error in the latest calculation... UWSP should be 11.2500, UW LaCrosse should be 9.7391 and UW Oshkosh should be 9.667.

What do you think would be worse?  Donkey Balls or everyone's favorite Xmas treat Schweddy Balls? :D

A little story with the weather getting cold again and snow on the way.

Is it bedtime already?  Well, I went to Point on Tuesday, got about 5 hrs. of sleep, went to Shorewood on Wednesday, got about 3 1/2 hours of sleep, went back to Point on Thursday and got 4 hours of sleep...so maybe it is bedtime already! lol  ;D :D

Badger,
Did you come over to Point last night?  Didn't see you.

Chmarx and Brian Carroll,
Coming tomorrow?  Drive safely everyone.

I'm still trying to figure out who I want for my 3 v 3 posters team.  I think I'll just take Swampgoon (who barely makes the 10-post minimum, if he does at all), BanditUWSP and frodotwo.  I have no idea if the latter two have ever played before, but who cares, I'm a homer.  Besides, you need FOUR players for a 3 v 3 team...everyone needs a sub!

Speaking of 3 v 3.  I've never really played organized basketball, go figure, aside from YMCA back in the day.  At one of the few company/work functions I ever attended, there was a 3 v 3 tourney for employees.  Of all the workers I get "stuck" with, I get the other Asian in the plant and some guy who I don't believe knew what a basketball was.  I'm 5'3", Long Tao was 5'6" and Paul is a round ball coming in at 5'8".  Needless to say, we didn't do very well.  Funny how the union vice-president was in the finals of the tourney and teams were picked "by random".  >:(

LOL!!!!!!!!!! That's great stuff

frodotwo

Lets see, my college basketball career consisted of pickup games at UWSP in 1972 and I retired from basketball in 1980 due to a broken ankle so I hope I'm not OS's first round draft choice!!

frankiet

Now with LaCrosse making the title game, that leaves two teams in the WIAC that have not experienced the championship game and a chance at the NCAA's.

River Falls and Superior

Maybe its because they have the two worst gym's in the conference? I'll go with that.

In fact, 6 of the 7 teams that have made the championship game in the 9 year history of the tournament, have made it two times or more. All in nice gyms.  :P

Whitewater 4
Stevens Point 4
Oshkosh 3
Stout 2
Platteville 2
Eau Claire 2
LaCrosse 1

Home team is 7-1 in the championship games.

Blue Devil Backer

OS maybe you should draft me for your 3 on 3 team being I am 6'6'  and did play bball in high school  before stoutguy wants me

Point and La Crosse just tipped off...  on Fox SportsNet, a replay of the game at Mitchell from a few weeks ago.

If you've got FSN, check it out, it was a great game!
