"WIAC bias (I am a little) and public vs private aside the best should play."

Stout survivor - I'd have to say you have a "big" bias, seeings you could eat soup off my head! ;) Good to see you, as someone who has played all three teams, speaking up on behalf of the other WIAC teams on the bubble...

And yep, I agree with this site being the ESPN of D3 hoops. Matter of fact, I don't watch ESPN. The type of ball I like to watch - i.e. Pointer basketball, and Dick/Jack Bennett-style defense - doesn't make the highlights...

And the athletes I prefer to watch are those who play the game for the love of it, not to make the highlight reels, or under the delusions of pro careers...

Easy bulk, I'm on of those players having "delusions" :D But i know what you mean.

I'm beginning to believe in Old School's theory that to get 3 teams in, Lax would have had to win tonight.  Tomorrow's gonna be interesting.

D3Hoops.com does so much to bring nation wide Dlll basketball together.  And the poll is accurate.  The "power conferences" should get more teams in the dance, and with the expanded feild it will probably happen.  The WIAC and CCIW are the top in my mind.

All those upsets all over the country today are the death knell for LX and Oshkosh will be very lucky to get a berth as well. Point is in great position to host as long as they keep winning and if they play as well as they did tonight that is a distinct possibility. A one point lead at the half tonight was extended by playing great defense again and that is what won them the game. Of course 5 players in double figures and shooting over 50% for the game helps as well. LX came out on fire and the Pointers weathered the storm until the defense took over. http://www.uwsp.edu/athletics/mbb/06-07/Lacrosse3.htm

You and your brother are definitely preaching to the choir on this one. ;) I think we'd all like to see the power conferences duly represented. The idea of the WIAC, CCIW, OAC, and NJAC only getting in one team apiece -- which could very well happen -- is absolutely mystifying, and extremely unfortunate. Alas, just as in the D1 tourney there are a lot of weaker leagues that are each given an automatic bid. Problem is, the D3 tourney has a smaller field, and more automatic-bid conferences, than does the D1 tourney. That means fewer at-larges, and since D3 doesn't have national media access that would allow the members of the selection committee to fairly and objectively compare every team out there competing for an at-large bid by seeing them all firsthand, they have to resort to formulae to (mostly) make their decisions for them.

It's unfortunate, and the process is maddening and seems very unfair. Heck, the D3 championship handbook even openly admits on page 12 that not every championship-caliber team is guaranteed to make the field. But, alas, it's the system we have ... and I don't foresee it changing in the near future.

Congrats to the Pointers - Here's hoping you will be having some of the incredible lines of people waiting two hours for tickets at your box office window again, like the year I went to every home game but got shut out when you hosted during your title run!

I didn't even think of how automatic-bids compare between D1 and D3.  I suppose that's why I'm just a Junior Varsity poster :)

As far as national media access.......... the big boys at D3hoops need to secure that ESPN tv contract. lol

Sager:

We might need to retire the NJAC as a power conference if they don't live up to it this year.

When do we start practice? When is our first game? Can we get a corporate sponsor to fly you and who ever else is on our team out here to Cali for practice so I don't have to miss much work? Maybe that free trip to Cali will be enough to sway a great player to be our third player...  (cough cough Point Special cough) ;D

So, basically what is going to happen is that, with the (secret) regional rankings from tomorrow, whichever team sits atop the regional rankings from each region will be scrutinized against the top team from every other region for each of the primary categories.  I have a feeling that St. Thomas will be one of the first picks, which means that, probably, either La Crosse or Oshkosh will be next on the docket.  This bodes well for the two WIAC foes... they will be "up to bat" as it were fairly early in the discussion, so the possibility of them being chosen would be far greater than, say, a team that is 7th in line in a region with lots of other Pool C candidates.

However, UWO (or UWL, whichever is ranked higher) will have to stand up against the top contenders of the other regions.  This means that there may be 4 or 5 straight South region teams selected, eating up the Pool C bids (the South is one area in particular where lots of upsets occured).  I'm not holding my breath for multiple WIAC bids... and if they occur, I really don't forsee the WIAC splitting the teams up too much.  It's always possible it would occur two years in a row, but...
