First off, Congrats to Shotblocker and the other WIAC representatives on the All-Region team.  You've done us proud!

Secondly, not to change subjects, well I guess not really a subject going right now with no WIAC representation going to Salem, but I want to bring the CCIW/WIAC challege thing again.

Seeing the All-Region teams being annoucned, I somehow (thanks to Mr or is it Dr Coleman) noticed that the CCIW and WIAC are in different regions.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was set up so 4 or 5 teams could get two quality games against quality teams this could make everyone happy.  This may have been brought up before, I don't know, I'm too lazy to check the pages when we were discussing this.  The worry was a loss would hurt one of the teams when it came time to select a pool C bid at the end of the year because of the in region loss.

I guess my question is, this year Point played Augustana, this doesn't count as an in region game correct?  With Point's victory did it help their QOWI?  If in region record is a major criteria for selection, couldn't both teams benefit or no?  Losing team doesn't get an in region loss, but winning team could add to the QOWI (if that counts).

Any help detangling this thing would be greatly appreciated.

Just Bill

In-region games have a broad definition:

1. Any game against a team in your basketball region (Central, Great Lakes, West, etc.).
2. Any game against a conference opponent (see UAA).
3. Any game against a team within 200 miles.
4. Any game against a team in your NCAA administrative region (Wisconsin is in Region 4 with Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.)

So, under criteria #4 any game between a school from Wisconsin and a school from Illinois would be counted as in-region.  So, Point's game against Augustana DID count as in-region.  Any games in a CCIW/WIAC challenge would also be in-region.

A game can never be in-region for one team, but not for the other.

EDIT: I could have made this much easier and just given you this: http://www.d3hoops.com/faq.php?question=44

Either way you put it Bill, it now makes sense to me.  Do all games, in and out of region get counted in the QOWI?

Thanks ;D

Just those in region... it's the biggest flaw of the current system. The most important and helpful games in terms of evaluating teams in different regions are almost always these out of region games... esp when accurately seeding and giving bids in a national tournament are concerned. And these games don't functionally count! ::)

Thanks again for filling me in.  The appropriate time to ask was way back when, but I didn't want to interupt the our discussions of bigger and better things.  I know it may have been a silly question, but to me one that needed to be explained to me at least, maybe someothers have a better knowledge of it now.

Thanks!!!!  :) ;) ;D

Those aren't silly questions at all, PH. The whole D3 ranking and tourney selection process is intricate and can be confusing, particularly for newcomers, and this is the proper place to find out what that process entails.

I think this just shows how Terry Porter got totally screwed and wasn't given a chance.  He's there barely two years, goes through a bunch of injuries and gets sacked for it.  Now, Stotts gets the same treatment.  Porter got it worse because they said he job was safe and then two weeks later or whatever, he's sent packing.  I never liked Stotts.  He didn't seem to have any personality.

I agree Old School.  I don't know what they are expecting when you're starting lineup is on the DL, but whatever.

I'm not going to apply, but I could nominate a person or  two if needed!

Stotts was another boneheaded hire by Kohl and had little to do with Larry Harris. It's funny how those few seasons where the Senator let Karl rule the roost have made people forget just how meddling an owner he is. Nellie may have been out of line when he started his feud with Kohl, but the truth is in the pudding.

1968-1987: Two Coaches
1987-2007: Don Nelson, Del Harris, Frank Hamblen, Mike Dunleavy, Chris Ford, George Karl, Terry Porter, Terry Stotts, Larry Kristowiak ....

Harris' hands are tied by what Kohl wants. He had expected to give Porter another year, but the Senator worked out the deal with Terry Stotts on his own, a la Steinbrenner.

Regardless, it doesn't matter. The Bucks will be calling Kansas City home by 2008-09; and Milwaukee will be prepping the Bradley Center for the arrivial of the National Hockey League.

And D3Hoops.com's favorite self-absorbed blowhard will be standing on his balcony, overlooking the BC, leading the farewell celebration.

Too funny AW.

You really think the Bucks will be sent packing?  I don't think so.  If the Bucks actually play any kind of decent basketball, they have good crowds.  I mean, the Bucks don't need to be in the conference final every year, but the teams have been plain bad lately.  I don't think attendence is the problem, unless Kohl really wants to sell them.

I would love an NHL team.  Hopefully the Brewers can pretend to be good for awhile...at least until the all-star break.

NO WAY, the new coach is from Montana and played for the Bucks.  In his 2 years as head coach of the mighty GRIZ he took them to the bog dance and last year beat Nevada in the first round.

Montana, producing top notch talent (living proof  ;D) go coach K(something) and go bucks and GRIZ.

OS,

Bear this in mind; the Bucks' lease at the Bradley Center expires on September 30 and carries a one-year option that will be picked up, making the deal valid through September of 2008.  It's no secret that the franchise is unhappy with the revenue streams provided by the building and despite recent upgrades, have no interest in a retrofit of the 19-year-old facility in which they pay no rent and have displaced other tennants (turning the Admirals' offices into a resturant ... ). They want a new building. David Stern, meanwhile, has no interest in keeping Milwaukee in the league when he has other markets ready to pony up big bucks. During the 2001 EC Finals, he was asked - point blank - would he stop a move if new ownership wanted to relocate. He said - on the record - he would not. He won't bring the All Star Game to Milwaukee, saying there isn't enough space for the media (uh huh). He tried to single handedly negotiate the deal to sell to Jordan. He doesn't give a rip about Milwaukee; he wants Kohl to sell and sell quick.

While all this is going on, Kansas City is planning to open the 19,000-seat Sprint Center in October of 2008. (Eerie, huh?). KC tried to woo the Penguins by offering free rent, and 49% of ownership and total control of building revenues. They have their eye on the Bucks big time. The Clippers expressed an interest, but they could end up in St. Louis or Vegas. The Bucks are KC's No. 1 Priority and don't think for a second that Stern isn't looking for a buyer out there.

Further still, as great as the Predators are this year; Nashville owner - and Racine native/resident - Craig Leopold has recently put 40% of the franchise up for sale and has a provision in his lease with the city of Nashville (which owns the Gaylord Entertainment Center) that he can pursue relocation if attendance dips below a certain level, or corporate sales don't meet a minimum number. Further, the city has to subsidze the team for all of its operating losses each year. The NHL is sick of the crap they have to take from Dollar Bill Wirtz in Chicago and are quietly remving the 90-mile no-compete provision from the bylaws. They have noticed how big hockey can be in MKE (despite the Admirals attendence woes). They were on hand when the building sold out for the NCAA Tournament even before it looked like UW would be there. The NHL is a much more suitable match for Milwaukee - especially the BC, as it was BUILT for an NHL team - than is the NBA.
