Vogel transfered from UMD (redshirt) to UWEC last year.  I heard he got injured before the season, which resulted in him being out the whole year.  He was expected back for this year, I believe.  Thats all I know!

You are right, I was a bit negative on Jahnke.

Jahnke can shoot and when he is hot, he is a scoring machine.  When he's not, put him in the popcorn stand because he doesn't play very good defense IMHO and a lot of other Titans do.

Hopefully TVD did something about it this offseason.

Gibson was really tough down the stretch last year when he started going to the basket with authority.  Before that he was just another tall guy.

It's funny how people see things differently. I felt Jahnke was one of the best defensive players in the league. He seemed to work pretty hard, and was always bumping cutters. I would want him on my team if he didn't score at all.

Mr. Downtown

From Media Day TVD said that Jahnke has been working on his shot and attacking the basket over the summer. Last year I though he loved the three point line a little too much, but when he was in D-I, he just didnt have the moves to get around defenders. Now in D-III, TVD is going to show Jahnke that he can get around his defender and attack the basket. This will help with his FG percentage and perhaps in the end make him a better shooter and offensive threat.

Greek Tragedy

In Brad Kalsow Pointer news:

In yesterday's game, Brad had 138 points, I mean, yards, and a touchdown in Point's victory in WIAC football action.

He was in the stands for Point basketball's purple/gold game, and I'm guessing hasn't practiced the the team yet.  Now that Point's football season is over, I'm sure he'll be at practice, assuming he is playing basketball this year.

Are things really so dire in Superior and Eau Claire ? What is with the loss of so many Blugolds who won't return ? Meanwhike, Coach K. seems to be getting La Crosse pointed in the right direction. The roster lists some 20 players, and seems to be overloaded with guards - even assuming a 3 guard offense. How many can be kept on the roster ?They are still a year from full maturity, but should be fun to watch. Let the season begin.

don't know if this was mentioned but it appears nate severson is playing for uw stout.  just ran across his name in the uwgb/stout boxscore...........good news for stout as he is a very nice player.............I wouldn't count stout out of the conference, they should be a very good squad along with oshkosh, whitewater

Mr. Downtown

Oldschool

word has it from Media Day that Brad was only going to basketball for coach bennett. So unless the new guy can persuade Brad to suit up and play for him, don't expect Kaslow in a Pointer basketball uniform this season.

Which to tell you the truth is a shame. If he weren't going to play basketball for Point this year, then why didn't he transfer somewhere else?

Perhaps he will become a full-time football player, and if that's the case, then you guys have a pretty good young talent at WR next year.

I see that Robert Morris (Chicago) is in the UW-Platteville tournament this weekend.  I'll copy what I posted on the HCAC board a few days ago...

Robert Morris College of Chicago is a small college powerhouse.  They're rated #4 in NAIA I after getting to the semifinal round of the tournament last year (falling to Azusa Pacific).  They just played an exhibition vs NCAA D1 Illinois-Chicago and lost by just 3 points, and tonight face D1 Loyola in an exhibition.

In that Loyola exhibition Friday evening, Robert Morris lost by just 6, 80-74.

Robert Morris will probably drill Wash U, but I am really interested in the game vs Platteville.

If anyone is interested in more information on the WW/Marquette match up here's a link:

http://facstaff.uww.edu/carolloj/www/111405.htm

Jeremy Manchester had a nice game with 20 points, 5 assists and 4 steals.  Andy Freund led all rebounders with 11 despite playing only 23 minutes because of early foul trouble.

Marquette was just bigger and quicker.  Novak was a very difficult matchup and nearly single handedly turned the complexion of the game in the last seven minutes of the first half.  Their quickness (James and Matthews) was a  problem too and led to a slew of WW turnovers, particularly in the first half.   But the WARHAWKS never quit playing and for a brief moment at the 3:33 mark you thought they might be able to take it down to the wire.  Unfortunately there's a reason the Marquette players are on scholarship and they showed why down the stretch.  At any rate, it was a great experience and bound to benefit us down the line.

My hunch is that Marquette fans are in for a long season in the Big East.

BW, I agree with your assessment.  For the first time in a few years, I saw the Warhawks play a complete game against a jugernot of an opponent.  Size and speed was the difference, if we had those attributes we would have won.

Glaring statistic was points in the paint-38 to 14 for MarQuette.  Scooby would have helped, but it didn't look like WW was even trying for the interior pass.  Three point shooting kept us in it though, it was good to see us know down some threes.

No complaints, I was in section 406 cheering on a good effort.  Anthony 2 of 12 from the point guard spot, not good, and Freund may have had the rebounds, but little production on offense.  Prediction-Golden Eagles get trounced by every big east team. 24 turnovers was not good either.

Now, I can't wait for the real season to start.

In regards to last night's WW at Marquette game.

It was rather ironic that for the second year in a row, a WIAC team has given the Golden Eagles a solid battle.  I thought it was rather ironic that WW coach Pat Miller was not allowed to be in the media room for postgame comments. The reason being, last year's scare put on Coach Crean's team by Jack Bennet and the boys ended up dominating the story in the next morning's Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.  Marquette wasn't going to let that happen again.

Today's Journal-Sentinel story did not mention one WW player's name and only mentioned the terms UW-Whitewater or Warhawks a total of four times in its story.  Excellent journalism!

Picking up where the J-S dropped the ball, several Warhawks had solid games against the NCAA Division I team.

Jeremy Manchester "stood on his ear" for the Warhawks with 20 points, 5 steals, 4 rebounds, 1 blocked shot, and a slam dunk that sent a gasp through the maybe 7,000 in the stands. Marquette listed the attendance at over 10,000, but that is due to the game being part of Marquette's season ticket package.

Other highlights from the night included Andy Freund's game-high 11 rebounds and Andrew Malachnik's game high 8 assists.

The biggest highlight that Milwaukee media wanted to investigate in the postgame press conference was how Pat Miller could look so much better (clothes-wise) than Marquette coach Tom Crean.  As one Milwaukee media member told me in the press room - "Hey that Miller simply looks marvelous tonight."

Based on the preseason polls, Oshkosh would have beat MU.   :o
