Finals:

St. Thomas (MN) 73, UW-La Crosse 59
LaX's first loss of the year
UW-Oshkosh 71, UW-River Falls 62
UW-Platteville 89, UW-Superior 78
EC over Stout 72-63
WW over Point 83-77

A technical foul was called with 20 seconds to go and a 3 point game.  There was a close call that was called a foul, but according to the radio guys, nothing was said.

I'm not sure if it would have mattered.  Point shot too early to end the first half, so instead of going into the locker room up at least 2 (or maybe even 4-5) they miss a shot and WW nails a 3 for a 1 point lead at the half.

Then, Point misses 5 straight FT's down the stretch.  That's the game.

Man oh man, what is going on in the Whitewater, they must be spiking their beers.  I caught the tail end of the game, WW did win by six but Perry with 23, McKay with 20 and 4 threes.  Can't wait to see the boxscore and read about it.  #2 team in the nation goes down, kind of surprised the game was on because I tuned in at 5 and the game wasn't on the radio.  The weather sucked, which also surprise me that the games went on as scheduled because it took be 1 hour to clear out the slush in the driveway.  Pray that Point gets back home safe tonight, or stay at the Baymont Inn (or Amerihost).

Rortvedt had 20 too and Hicklin I think 18.  4 threes for him.  Apparently McKay finally played his expected type of game hitting the threes.  Good early season win should move us into the top 15, hope we can keep it up.

Combine that with football and the ladies winning, tri-fecta.

Game of the Day
Stevens Point at Whitewater
The Lowdown:  Point swept the regular season series by a total of 5 points, a three pointer at the buzzer to win by 2 and then a missed three pointer at the end of the game by Whitewater to win at Karges.

That certainly was amazing when Point and Whitewater played each other at River Falls.  ;)

Karges, Kachel, whatever! lol...thanks for the catch.  Where ever they played, Point lost.  Put a fork in them.  It's over.  :'(

P-ville vs UW-Soup: What happened to Roeder? I don't think I saw his name in the stats.

I watched most of it on IFAN.  1st half was close the whole way but EC got a couple buckets before the half to take a 6-point lead.  2nd half was close to begin with.  Stout made a run to take a 2-point lead, but then EC really picked it up.  I believe they had 3 3-pointers in a row, followed by a 3-point play, followed by another 3-pointer to take a 10 point lead in a matter of a couple minutes.  EC finished it out from there.

Webb and Matthews were pretty quiet throughout the game except for a couple of spurts.  Webb got called for carrying the ball twice in the first half, I believe.  He seemed to "go away" for awhile after that.

From what I saw, Stout likes to play a lot of "beating their opponents off the dribble".  They do have some good athletes, but many times it looks like they get out of control which causes the TOs.

Also, EC is playing pretty well right now.  I think that playing the tough opening weekend games has really helped them (even though they lost both).  Beyer seems to be playing like he did to finish last season.  In the 2nd half, Stout had trouble stopping him.  He was hitting both his inside and outside shots.

It was an excellent game between two pretty decent teams.  This one turned in favor of the WARHAWKS down the stretch.  I think WW's largest lead was 9 and Point's was 8.  Neither team could put the other away or extend their leads before the other went on a run to tie or take a lead.   Back and forth that's the way the night went.

Free throws played a significant part in the win.  Point had five more baskets than we did including 3 additional three-pointers.  Each team had 24 rebounds and Point had fewer turnovers, 13-8.  But WW's went to the free throw line 32 times making 26 while Point shot 7 of 12 from the line.  I think that had to do with the different styles being played.

Perry led the way with 23 points and 8 rebounds.  Miles McKay picked up his scoring and finished with 19 points including 4 for 4 from the free throw line down the stretch to put the game out of reach.  Matt Goodwin played good defense matching up with Rortvedt and holding him to 14 points and contributing 17 himself.  Billy Kolinski played his best game as a WARHAWK and added 9 points.

Steve Hicklin led the Pointer with 18 points including 4-5 from beyond the arch.  Rotvedt finished with 14 and Wotachek added 10.

Missed you OS but I figured the weather would keep you home.  BTW, one of the officials asked me if I'd seen you at the game tonight.  Your fame grows!  :D

Football team wins, women's basketball team wins, men's team top off the night.  It was a great day to be a WARHAWKGUY.

Thats right Im not only a football lover but hoops as well and the hawks proved Saturday after beating Point they are the team to beat in the conference.  With transfers and big Rob Perry healthy they cant be stopped.  I saw them scrimmage a good Elmhurst bball team and from then on I guess they havent stopped.

I myself was impressed with UWW defense. Watching them hold Beamish to 6 pts inside and El-Amin to 0-4 on 3's was key. Watching 6'7" King guard El-Amin was something to see. Goodwin and Kolonski's defensive effort was also key to the win. Wonder where the Warhawks will move up to in the rankings. Kevin Kolonski's effort on both ends gets my MVP for the game. I was not impressed with the ref's. Mostly not being consistant. Any idea why we had two errors on resetting the 35 second clock. They corrected the one for UWSP but UWW lost 2 pts on theirs and no correction.
Fun game to watch and worth the drive. Point will not forget this at their place.

However, not to burst Whitewater's bubble (I did pick them to win in pick'em), but it's the recurring theme in the WIAC. Inside scoring, or lack there of. You can't tell me that everyone is expecting the Pointers to dominate in the paint. If they slash you to death, that would be the case, but with a team like Whitewater and how Coach Pat Miller always has very good team speed, that's not going to happen.

The Pointers have great scorers, but....BUT I don't think they are the best defenders. Which often times, its fine because they generally play very good team defense.

And...it was at home.  With a healthy Rob Perry which could be the difference maker for the Warhawks this season.

Then again, we'll see what happens on Wednesday in Oshkosh. I don't think people give the Titans enough credit. Yes, they don't have a bench that is going to scare you to death, but this starting 5 will find ways to score in multiple ways.

Also, Perry will be going up against Jordan Johnson, who was great last night and showed up Scott Kelly and Nate Robertson last night.

Key match up will be Matt Miller vs Matt Goodwin. Should be fun to watch (and in my case, broadcast). AND it should be a Top 25 match up.

Oh, and River Falls desperately needs a PG, or this season is going to be ugly. U-G-L-Y Ugly. Too many turnovers, too many mental mistakes. Plenty of firepower, but no one to use it. Compeletly different team without Koonkaw.

I'd like to know as well!!!!!  Looking back at their stats from Tuesday against Bemidji State, he didn't play in that game either.  (I know he started the first two games this season.)  One would probably be right in assuming he is injured, however it would be nice to see something "concrete."

OS--it's understandable that you would confuse Karges w/Kachel. After all, Karges is the PREMIER basketball venue in the conference!

Kevin Koski or Billy Kolinske?  ;)   Koski had six assists and  and did a good job defensively against a much quicker El-Amin.  Koski is doing a solid job as the point guard which was a position last year that was a turnover waiting to happen.  Kolinske also had a solid defensive effort, scored 9 points and got 3 rebounds in 18 minutes in what I felt was his best game as a WARHAWK.  He's finally healthy and is going to help us off the bench this season.
