The Kerry Gibson fallout.

Too bad the original doesn't survive online. I hope those of you who attended the game tonight picked up a hard copy of the paper because I don't think it will be available again, thanks to an editor caving.

There are many more. Here are the Google search results for "Kerry Gibsonas," as he's known in Lithuania. If anyone knows Lithuanian, indulge us. I'm pretty sure I know what the gist is, but curious to see how one-sided it is.

ROFLMAO,  this Gibson thing just keeps getting better.  Thanks for the links.

I haven't a clue what the author's intentions were but between him and Gibson they've created quite a stir in Lithuania.   Way too funny.

This Gibson fall out may not be over.  Your contact oversea's is not ... concrete.  His team may be shopping for a  new center and if they find one he will be released. I am not saying that they will but his numbers are not great and it sounds as if the coach would not care if he was let go. It is about numbers... period, if he had 20 points and 10 rebounds he could say what ever he wanted.

I like Gibson as most of us do but this is a learning leason for anyone heading oversea's to play.  Our agent talked with us about understaning that the internet means anything you say they will find out be it in a small college paper, myspace or facebook.

Facts are US  players are a dime a dozen and if a first year player does not like it then see ya (unless your numbers are great).  But he is young (22?) and tall so he should get another oppertunity.

The Gibson fallout is very funny to me.

Not for Gibson's comments, but for the Advance-Titans luck.

See, I call it Karma, and if anyone has constantly been reading or following up on the Advance-Titan, it's pretty easy to see that most of their writers are all about writing something that is funny for them, and their friends. Pretty much elminating what the general public think...

And now, a simple article between friends is now subject to criticism.

Sweet. Payback is a _______ for the AT. Perhaps now, they will take things a bit more seriously when they do their reporting, cause now not only have they hurt the paper's reputation, but now they have damaged Kerry's image to a degree with the country he play's in.

Hardy har har. Jerks.

(P.S. For anyone wondering why I'm kinda harsh, this stems from a "Funny" article they wrote about Oshkosh students love of Oshkosh sports by having a "poll" in which they wrote "4% - Yeah, I Love The Titans! I express my love with my LAME PERSONALITY on my WRST Shows and Titan Sports Broadcasts. "

And if you have ever read the bottom of my posts, you can tell that gets me a bit upset. Just a bit... >:( )

I thought you were going to tell us they wouldn't let you write for them...but that wasn't case.

Any Bluegold fans at the game last night.  I listened to it on the radio.  Sounded rather sloppy in the first half.  First off, I have to say...what a HOMER JOB  ;) :D  just kidding.  Pioneers couldn't keep the ball in their hands.  Like they ate too much buttered popcorn at halftime.  22 turnovers is ridiculous.  Using last Saturdays game as a model where UWP only turned the ball over 9 times.  13 more possessions makes quite a difference, at least in giving yourself a chance to win.  Eau Claire gave us a shot many times by missing the front end of the bonus, but Pioneers didn't capitalize.  Radio guys had nothing but praise for Ryan Shea the entire second half.  Sounded like he was all over the place, going as far as calling him "heady", which is nice compliment I think.  Question for anyone at the game.  Any time Jeff Skemp caught the ball in the post was he being double teamed?  Where was it generally coming from?  Just curious, because I would start an rant, but it would do no good here.

I feel bad for Kerry in that if as the author states, the article was written based on emails between friends, they should have stayed that way. If Greg Koch was a true friend he would not have published these thoughts from Kerry. I understand that Koch is a sports writer but after writing and proofreading the article, he should have known it was not flattering to Kerry's team or the country. If Koch was trying to be funny, as Mr_D thinks, he failed and has caused a lot of trouble for Kerry. After watching the vid, I can see that Kerry is still the small town guy and is really sorry about the whole thing.
Let's hope that this does not cost him his chance to play professionally, even if he never makes to to the next level.

Man alive....Jack Bauer was just sentenced to 48 days in jail, my Blugolds are tied for first in the WIAC, and Kerry Gibson is hated in Lithuania.....sign of the apocalypse???  ;D  Seriously though....I'm loving the Blugolds right now.  Hopefully they can carry this run into LAX and pick up another win!

Funny how you guys at this point are not talking about the downfall of what is Eau Claire Basketball and the Oshkosh guys are not making hunting/fishing jokes of TVD.  Winning makes everything go away doesn't it?

Mr_Downtown

T2K not being around helps with the TVD jokes (or lack there of).

It wasn't winning that made it go away.... it was T2k going away that made it go away (well, at least the Oshkosh stuff...)

EDIT:  It took a while to type this post... looks like Mr DT beat me to the punch!

I think Eau Claire is the surprise of the year thusfar.  It's a long season and we're only 2 games in, but Eau Claire, at 5-2, has the potential to do something that they've only done once is the last 6 seasons... finish above .500.

They've also already gotten 2/3 of their total league wins last year.

This league year has started off pretty interestingly...  Here are the standings

Oshkosh   2-0
Eau Claire 2-0
Stevens Point 1-1
Whitewater 1-1
Platteville 1-1
River Falls 1-1
La Crosse 0-1
Superior 0-1
Stout  0-2

And here's what the preseason poll projected:

Point
Whitewater
Platteville
Oshkosh
La Crosse
River Falls
Stout
Eau Claire
Superior

So far, the following "upsets" have occurred... WW over Point, Oshkosh over WW, EC over Platt... That's 3/8, and if things continue at a 37.5% clip, it bodes pretty well for the teams projected in the bottom half!

... But, to be honest, I wonder how many "upsets" occur on a given year?  It has to do as much with a team's projection as how they DO against that projection... and it the SID's just didn't have a good feel for a team, then they could project them too high/low...

Ok, I'm going to stop thinking about this one.... I don't even know if I'm making any sense!

any interesting Stout facts that i could use in my intro tonight?

Try to catch up with the Stout radio crew. Stoutguy will fill up any and all empty air time you have. (will be hot air though)

No go, flash. The radio guys will be in River Falls for the women's game.

UWRF is going to need to see me baseline at Johnson Fieldhouse for the inside scoop.  8)

Don't listen to these guys UWRF.  Listen to my hotair and decide for yourself.  The hot air wasn't so hot on that trip down to RF last night.  Your Falcons put up a spirited fight and could easily have won the game.  Must have been painful for the Stout men's fans at Johnson last night.  I had a terrible week plus I forgot to get my picks in.  I was planning on picking EC, RF, Osh, and SP.  So maybe I do have some hotair left afterall!   We are going to Osh on Friday night to do the doubleheader on Sat.  I plan to check all the bars to see if anyone isn't talking about Gibson being "the Ugly American".  I just know my boys, Jake and John would never be guilty of saying anything to offend anyone.  If they did, I would always report it on the radio and "Mama N" would hear it and they would get a good talking to.

Just a rumor coming out of UWRF, but a sad one if true:  Jontae K lacks financial resources to have his knee injury treated properly.

I would think that a bigshot mayor in RF could do something about this.  If nothing else, use some of that old school teacher money that is just sitting around not being used.

What can I say, I miss our talks Stoutguy 8)

RF looked good last night and when your team takes on Stout dont bother setting the shot clock, we wont need it ;D  RF came out and in the second and started getting it inside and it is crazy how good they would be if the little guy did not get hurt.  I wish there was something I could do to help him get his knee fixed, maybe some fund through the WIAC to help these guys with out the means and are giving their all for no scholarships.

Plenty of orthopedic surgeons claim to be big supporters of collegiate athletics. Maybe they can put their scalpels where their advertising is; it would make a great story: McNally donates services to keep player on the court or Drawbert reaches out of EC to help injured competitor.

The PR would be outstanding, and if the surgery actually worked, it would be quite the testament to the doc's skills.

C'mon Stoutguy; start a grassroots campaign via the radio; in fact, all you announcers could generate some talk. Maybe a team of surgeons from each WIAC location could jump in. Tag-team surgery. It's one thing to hang a banner, it's quite another to actually provide some genuine service.

Could it be a tax write-off?

I think any school that doesn't insure their athletes should drop sports.

Its not worth it to have a young person crippled due to lack of funds.

Edited to add:  Has anyone verified this story?  Could be much ado about nothing, to quote a pretty good playwright!

From what I understand, at both UWW and UWM the players are required to show proof of health insurance before they are allowed to play. I would be surprised if all schools don't require the same thing. If someone shows proof and then cancells the insurance, there isn't much that the school can do about it. If this lack of funds story is true, I'm sure there is some NCAA rule against anyone helping this student/athlete. It may cost him in the long run if he got help. Let's hope he will get the care he needs and returns next year.
