Nice story from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal about Matt Scott, UW-Whitewater student-athlete and one of the country's top wheelchair basketball players and who, next week, will star in a widely televised Nike commercial.  (with links to the raw footage of the video shoot and final version to the commercial)

UW-Supers start and end slow but manage to beat Northland College by 13 in Superior tonight. It seemed like there were as many players in street clothes as uniforms, but of course that's not true. Three did not suit up: Lindberg, Roeder and Culy. Jake Smith did a very nice job; Dwight Hill, of course, was the player of reason and good sense on the floor.  Here's to a great second semester.

The guys over the MIAC page didn't agree with me when I said it was a huge upset when St. John's beat Whitewater...then the Johnnies turn around and get smoked by St. Norbert by 19.

That's primarily one poster – VOJ.   That was a big upset.  The Johnnies lost a ton of talent from last year's squad,  3-4 starters.  Although they had a decent nucleus coming back, even the MIAC coaches were unsure where to plug them into the Coaches Preseason Poll.  Most "knowledgeable" followers of the MIAC had them slotted anywhere from 4th – 7th place in the conference race this year.

I might have to make the trek over to River Falls etc. for myself to check out the Warhawks, Pointers,Titans etc.

Mr. Downtown

Now two WIAC teams (Whitewater and Oshkosh) have suffered head-scratching losses.

I think its just a bump in the road for both teams, but these bumps will be remembered in late Feb. when it's selection time.

Sometimes when you get out of the December WIAC games, it's hard get up for the "cupcake" teams.  I don't mean any disrespect to The Johnies but players are VERY well informed on where there team or the WIAC rank in naitonal perception.

I will say this, the top of the MIAC is very good.

Great win for Point over Augie!!!!!! Great!!!

RF 99, Villa Julie (MD) 65 at Trip Sports Invitational in Phoenix. VJ was 2-7 going into the game. Robertson 20, Wright 15, Reese 15, Davis 14 lead Falcons. RF shoots 59%, VJ 35%. Falcons out rebound VJ 48-27. Clearly, VJ not much of an opponent, altho it would appear that RF played one of their better games, turning it over only 11 times.

Falcons play Westminster College (PA) (2-8) tomorrow.

I agree, UWW was not ready to play. They arrived at 3:00 from Whitewater and went right to the gym. Perry was way off from the floor and King has an injury (played only 15 min Sat & he didn't play on Sun). When they were down by 13, Whitewater started to run and gun and let Goodwin shoot the 3's. They got it within 1 and then slowed the game down and stopped going to him. At the end, they were running again and he hit 3 3's in a row. Lots of foul trouble. King, Perry,Koski & Vernon each had 2 fouls early and the refs didn't let up in the 2nd half with Koski and Perry fouling out. I will say, the Johnnys played well and deserved the win.

Sorry about that Drake, didn't mean to clump all of you into one category. ONE guy over in the MIAC page...my bad.

I'll agree with this to a point.  Sure, sometimes you relax and let your guard down against seemingly lesser opponents, but you have to make yourself play better, especially when you get down early.  From the looks of it, I didn't see Whitewater have any problems "getting up" for Cardinal Stritch or some other teams.  They came out flat and were apparently outplayed by St. John's.  The top of the MIAC is very good, yes, but St. John's isn't included.

Everyone has bad games.  It happens.  I mean, Point had three road games against inferior opponents (Viterbo, Edgewood and Ripon) and escaped all three with wins.  We wouldn't be talking about Oshkosh and Whitewater had they beaten who they were "supposed" to beat (in their eyes).
