Had a quick chat with Jack AND Dick Bennett at the game tonight.

Speaking of Bennetts.  Nice article in the USA Today on Tony Bennett and the Washington State team.

I think the only thing that Oshkosh brought home with them after their win at Quandt was Point's cold shooting night.

I was at the radio station, but the broadcasters would frequently mention how many open shots that Oshkosh missed.

It's contagious!  Anyway, that's part of the reason why I didn't feel horribly bad about the loss to Oshkosh.  We didn't have OPEN looks, but we had GOOD looks and just missed them.  It happens.  BanditUWSP and I were talking last night and that's how we felt against Washington U. as well.  That was the coldest night of the year.  Luckily for Point, they had their shots back last night and it looked good!

Anyone in the neighborhood tomorrow night should check out Kolf for the Oshkosh West/Oshkosh North HS games. Seeing 5,500 people crammed in there is pretty sweet.

Sure, but could we even get in?

We did get to see a new era in UWO basketball start last night with the debut of the new titan mascot.  I just hope taxpayers didn’t have to pay a few hundred thousand dollars for the costume … and lightning bolt.  I think that might have been titan2000 inside there.  ;)
That should be a great game, and it could have a big bearing on who finishes first and second at the end of the conference season.

I think I'll tackle the mascot...and regarding the Point game, way to go out on a limb! lol

Though Whitewater is winning, I'm not sure if Warhawk fans should be a little worried since they seem to have problems winning those games that some may feel should be won easier.

So now that Oshkosh beat Point anyone want to wager when the next time we will see BBGUY around next?  Looking back at his old posts, I am guessing it will be the next time UWO loses.
Now if I could only do as well in the Pick'em league....... ::)
Now thats funny  :D
That was the intent..... ;)

Don't you mean you're not sure if WARHAWK fans shouldn't be a little worried about the team's play.   I'm not sure what some may feel but personally I'm concerned about our how the team is playing.   Obviously we need to play better if we want to challenge over the course of the entire season.  However we have won the first two or our three game road swing so I'm not complaining.   Road wins in the WIAC aren't easy regardless of the opponent and when they're over all that matters is the final score.

Old School -

Thanks for the tip on the Tony Bennett USA article... Will have to check it out... I lived in GB when he attended school there... It's always a treat to watch a gym rat like him play, and now he's putting those lessons that he learned from his father and as an NBA player to do wonders for the team out West... He's a classy kid, too...

P.S.  For your laugh of the day; I once had a boss, a few years older than Tony at the time, and pre NBA career, who said he could beat Tony one on one, because he would be able to back him down and post up on him... Well, this guy wasn't actually much bigger than Tony, and I don't now if he even played high school ball. He certainly didn't play college hoops...

We have an annual laugh at this guy's expense every year during our fantasy basketball draft, seeings Tony could have beaten this guy just shooting three pointers... lol...

Badger Warhawk -

You are absolutely right. I guess I just reacted because back in the "Augie" era, WW always had a cupcake schedule.

The Massey rankings are interesting...and, I have to say ...seem relatively accurate.

I'm looking forward to seeing WW this Saturday. I feel it will be a "barometer" game for Eau Claire. It's too bad the attendance for that one, and the womens' showdown, will probably be about 138 + me.

bgbacker

OK ... I can't resist adding that Oshkosh, with the 6th-toughest schedule, plays Finlandia twice. Maybe if they added one more, they'd be #1!!!

bgbacker...you need to chill out dude!  If the Blugolds win this weekend, you can scream "King of the Mountain" for all to hear, and that you dad can beat up his dad or whatever else floats your boat.  You were reading way too much in to BadgerWarhawk's statement.

chmarx

BW, I agree with you about Mane.

Without Werner, La Crosse has had little inside game this year.  Sounds like that hurt badly against WW.

We'll have to play 40 minutes of good basketball to get a win in Zorn and we'll have to control Beyer.  For whatever reason he plays really, really well against us.   The two teams have played some pretty good games in EC the past few years so odds are this one will be too.   Can't make the trip and wouldn't miss a PACKER game for a funeral, even my own,  but I'll be listening to Gary and Voice on the radio.

badgerwarhawk,

Did Kevin Koski get hurt at LaCrosse? Whats up with the 12 mins as a starter? I know McKay has come off the bench and done well. Do you think this will continue?

If you get there before 5:30 or so. Tickets go on sale at 5, I think. But that means you have to sit through a girls game, which starts at 6.

badgerwarhawk

I noticed in the box score that Brian Hunter got 19 minutes which is a lot for him this year and Matt Goodwin played the full 40 minutes.  Those two guys and Jason Berry are the ones that will take Koski's place at the point.

I'm not sure what's up with Kevin. If he wasn't injured it's most likely a match up issue.  Kevin has been doing a good enough job but like everyone he has his limitations.  Matching up with much quicker players is one of them.

I suspect Myles McKay will continue to come off the bench because of the offensive lift he gives us when he does and the fact that Kori Vernon has been playing well since the change.

Nobody said anything about the Falcon/Pointer "game." The stats probably tell most of the story:  31% shooting to 48%, 24 turnovers to 10. Did Point press?

Up to that point, RF coaches had felt good about nobody blowing the Falcons out. We lose by nine at Osh, by one at Plat. Reese has a career game vs. WW, in an overtime loss, then comes up w/4 pts., 5 t.o.'s. Just how pathetic were the Falcons?

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

Greek Tragedy

Actually, I did say something about the game; I'm not going to go back and look, but it was brief because I posted it at midnight afer I returned home from Quandt.

Point didn't press, but they were pumped up after their Oshkosh loss, and came out blazing.  They just played really good defense, hustled after every ball and just played well.  As for River Falls, I'm not sure what happened to them.  They had that "deer in headlights" look and it doesn't help when Reese simply dribbles the ball off his foot.  There really were times when some of the River Falls players acted like this was the first time they were dribbling...there were a handful of "unforced" turnovers for sure.

I know some fans were curious about seeing River Falls.  Last year, they gave us fits up there, but we pulled out a win.  After seeing scores where they blew a 9 point lead with less than a minute to go vs. Platteville, had a respectable game vs. Oshkosh and lost in OT to Whitewater, the last thing on my mind was a 44-pt. blowout.

I'm not sure if the Whitewater game drained them or they just didn't have it in them to compete in Point.  As they always say, "You're not as bad as you think you are and you're not as good as you think you are..."

Another big game at Quandt tomorrow with Platteville coming in.  Real interesting weekend with Oshkosh at Superior, but should take care of business, Stout possibly getting their first win of the conference season vs. La Crosse and Whitewater with a tricky game at Zorn.
