WEEKLY RANKINGS

1. Whitewater (13-2, 6-1) LW-1:  Things might get a little tougher now that Rob Perry is out for the year.  They didn't miss him on Saturday as they whipped Stout.  HUGE game vs. Platteville in midweek before a trip to Canada on the weekend.
2.  Stevens Point (13-3, 5-2) LW-3:  Had trouble putting Stout away with Webb going for 37, and took care of an improving Superior team by 19.  Tough week for Point as they host a surging Eau Claire team and a rematch at Oshkosh.
3.  Platteville (11-4, 5-2) LW-4:  In their only game of the week, held off a pesky La Crosse team.  Perry's injury should ease things up in the middle for Skemp on Wednesday before getting a bye on Saturday against Stout.
4.  Oshkosh (12-4, 6-2) LW-2:  Titans ambushed in Eau Claire before taking out their frustrations against La Crosse.  They have a big nonconference game against rival Lawrence before getting Point at the Kolf on Saturday.
5.  Eau Claire (10-6, 4-3) LW-7:  The Blugolds win two games by a combined 7 points; upsetting Oshkosh by 3 at home and then getting by the "trap game" at River Falls by four.
6.  Superior (7-8, 3-4) LW-6:  The Yellow Jackets squeak by River Falls on the road and then keep it close for awhile at Quandt before falling to the Pointers by 19.  The get some home cooking with Stout in midweek and then a barnburner with a "jetlagged" Whitewater team on Saturday.
7.  La Crosse (7-9, 2-5) LW-5:  Real tough week for La Crosse, falling to Platteville and Whitewater, doesn't get much tougher than that.  Good week to get back into the thick of things with games against River Falls and Eau Claire.
8.  River Falls (7-9, 1-6) LW-8:  The Falcons fail to move up in the standings, losing two close home games to Superior by 2 and Eau Claire by 4.  Trip to La Crosse this week is the only one.
9.  Stout (3-13, 0-7) LW-9:  Nearly got over the hump against Point, but faltered at the end.  Going to Whitewater didn't make things any better.  A chance for win #1 at Superior before heading to Platteville on Saturday.

I'm sure Kerry Gibson is jealous.

FYI, Kerry has switched teams. Over Christmas he moved to the Romania team. From what I understand, that would be a step down (lower league) but better for him under the circumstances with his previous team. Let's all wish him the best and hope he stops writing his old Oshkosh buddies.

I wonder what he thinks of Romanian beer.

I don't know if it was the best, but most likely the craziest was the UWP game agains UWRF here in Platteville.  Best game would probably be Pioneers at Point due to the implications of such a game....but I will change my answer if need be after tomorrow night if that ends up being a good game.

Cody,
I like your idea, however I have a couple of questions.....

1. How does Kalsow get POY, yet not make your All WIAC Starting 5?
2. No Tim Dworak?   :o

Hehe, that was one of my first thoughts... Actually, I wondered it we'd HEAR about what he thinks about Romanian beer...

Cubs,

Here's my logic....Jason Kalsow is a very good player, but I don't know he was in the top 5.  He had a great run in 2003-2004, most of all he lead the Pointers to the Title and hit the Game Winner in the Title game that year.  That's why he is the POY; However, I don't know that he was better individually than the 5 I had posted.

Tim Dowark....He just missed the cut.  He was one of the best; put up great numbers, but once again I don't know if he was better than the 5 I posted.  He had the perfect situation, 4 good 3 point shooters on the outside (Miller, Scherer, Sowinski, Fernholz)  so the defense couldn't help much.  Tim would seal his guy or get 1 on 1 down low.  He just missed the cut.  Just going with the guys that I thought were the most impressive during the last 8 years.

Final score from Appleton:
Lawrence 81,  Oshkosh 78

Mr. Downtown

There goes any chance for Oshkosh to earn a Pool C bid.

So you are saying 22-6 (although very unlikely) won't be good enough to get one of the 17 Pool C bids?  Although it may turn out this way, I think you may be jumping the gun a little bit.....

Cubs,  How did you like that time out that Lawrence called after sinking the two freethrows to go up 3 with 1.7 seconds left.  I was hoping it would come back to bite them allowing the Titans to draw up a last second shot with no time outs left of their own.

Can't say I really understood that one.....  My guess is Jojo wanted to make sure everyone was on the right page, however it sure was risky.  Oh well, time to prepare for Point this Saturday.
