We will definitely call it even.   I was just jabbing back.  The reality is that as typically is the case, the team that trailed most the game did most of the fouling.....last year and this.

In terms of who wins next year.......we will let the teams decide.  It seems to me that all of the Oshkosh key players are Juniors.  The Titans should be very good next year.

I will acknowledge that I probably saw the Titans on an off-night, but I find it very surprising that anyone watching that game can ID Johnson as Defensive POY. Ask Matt Miller who is the toughest defender he has faced. The main facet that Ryan Shea brings to the WIAC in his rookie year is athleticism on the defensive end. I realize stats don't tell the whole story when it comes to "D," but consider these:

STEALS     BLOCKS   CHARGES TAKEN  PF'S  DQ'S
   Johnson             29              1            ??                    46       2
   Shea                  35             13           15                    48      1

And, with all due respect to Johnson (who I really like as a player, by the way), he didn't shut down Beyer that night. Beyer shut down Beyer.

Also, I think Brandon Brown of LX might get my vote if he hadn't been hurt.

By the way, on the subject of defense, and this isn't directed at any team or player, is it just  me or is there more "flopping" than ever this year, and is it being called erraticallly by our league's officials?

For 1st half Fab Five, without respect to position, I would take:

Hill, Perry, Goodwin (no, not Rashann), Shea, & Skemp

They are playing .500 basketball their last 6 games, and they have to fight back against two of the best in the WIAC. If Oshkosh keeps on this slide, they could go from 5-0 in the WIAC, to 6-4.
Just a minor correction.....   They are playing .500 basketball over their last 10 games.

Anyway, you metion the upcoming Point and Platteville games, and it seems like you are already marking them down as losses for UWO.  How soon you  forget that Oshkosh has already beaten Point (AT Point,) while the UWP/UWO game was 59-53 with less than 4:00 to go.  It's not as if UWP led from the get-go and just set the cruise control on their way to victory.  Let's see what the Titans are made of before you "stick a fork" in them.  What are you going to say/do if they win both?   ::)

Does anyone know who the big guy in street clothes at the end of the UWO bench was?  I heard he is another transfer who will be eligible next year in addition to Dan Tillema.
His name is Steven Waudby.  He is a 6'10" Center from Marquette, MI.  He redshirted during the 2005-06 season, and has played sparingly the last two seasons at Michgan Tech.

Here is some background info on him:

-Helped Marquette Senior HS to 20-3 record and Great North Conference title in 2004-05
-Averaged 18 points and eight rebounds, and set a school record with 86 blocks as a senior
-Earned Class A All-State Honorable Mention laurels following senior season
-Named to the All-GNC First Team and U.P. All-Class Dream Team in 2005
-Helped the Redmen to an 18-3 overall record and Great Northern Conference title in 2003-04

It should benefit Oshkosh, but they are already in a hole being behind three other WIAC team's.
The whole basis of my argument was them winning the rest of their regular season games....  If they do that, I doubt they are going to be ebhind three WIAC teams.  Probably one, but not three.

Mr. Downtown

Cubs, I love how you stick up for our Titans, but you have to agree that the odds are not in favor for Oshkosh to sweep Point, and go on the road to beat Platteville.

I would LOVE to see Oshkosh win both games, and I'll have seconds of crow if they do. But just like everyone else, I've seen Oshkosh take this road, and I've seen them go the way side for the big games, and go on lengthy winning streak's against the Superior's and Stout's of the WIAC.

No doubt, after Point's 57-44 win over Eau Claire, this is almost a must win game for Oshkosh, just for their psyche.

I was also talking about the hole that Oshkosh is in considering the new strength RPI for the conferences. Again, my early theory is that for some reason the MIAC is going to have a higher RPI than the WIAC. Again, not making things any easier.

Oh, by the way, Point has won 5 straight WIAC games. Again, it was inevitable that the Pointers would be back.

Less than 2 minutes left to go, and Platteville is leading Whitewater by 3. We could have four 6-2 team's in the WIAC.

Mr. Downtown

IT'S OVER!!!!!

Stout beats Superior, at the Hive, 79-64.

Tough loss for Superior, and congrats for Stout to get on the board.

Pop the cork we win a conference game

and Skemp having a HUGE night with 30pts
You are only as good as the people around you.

Mr. Downtown

Scores in the WIAC:
PLATTEVILLE  79 (6-2)
WHITEWATER  71 (6-2)
PLATT - SKEMP, 30 PTS
WW - MCKAY, 19 PTS

STOUT      79  (1-7)
SUPERIOR  64  (3-5)

LA CROSSE     76 (3-5)
RIVER FALLS   61 (1-7)

STEVENS POINT  57   (6-2)
EAU CLAIRE        44   (4-4)

Now, with your updated Conference Tournament, and yes I had to go to the book for this one.

It states : "SEEDING"
Teams will be seeded 1 through 8 based on the final regular season conference standings.  If necessary, the following tie-breaker criteria will be applied to determine entry into the tournament or to seed teams with identical records:

1.   Head-to-head competition between tied teams.

Oshkosh: 2-1 (W's over WW, SP / L vs Platt)
Platteville: 2-1 (W's over WW, OSH / L vs SP)
Stevens Point: 1-2 (W over PLATT / L's vs WW, OSH)
Whitewater: 1-2 (W over SP, L's vs OSH, PLATT)

So after the tiebreaker:
1. Platteville
2. Oshkosh
3. Whitewater
4. Stevens Point

So now, the bracket

1 Platteville   6-2
8 River Falls   1-7

4 Stevens Point   6-2
5 Eau Claire        4-4

3 Whitewater     6-2
6 Superior         3-5

2 Oshkosh         6-2
7 La Crosse       3-5

Left out: Stout 1-7, but now they have hope!!  ;D

Superior had the game played and won at 7PM tonight. Unfortunately, at 9, they were in the toilet. It appeared the Supes were not quite prepared to work; must have believed Stout wouldn't put up a fight. Unforced errors, nasty shots, continued inability to follow shots for rebounds, and Stout was raining threes and twos and ones. Refs were using a mathematical formula to call fouls rather than responding to what was going on on the court, but that wasn't a factor, particularly.

Superior has to figure out how to rebound. I think Culy must have lead the team there.

What an ugly night. Hope they pull out of this nosedive before Saturday, when WARHAWKS, WARHAWKS, WARHAWKS come to town.

So going into Point and winning doesn't count for anything?  I would think that was a big game, considering they were the preseason favorites to with the WIAC.  As far as seeing it beofre, that was with a different group of guys.  Remember, this is first real significant playing time (at Oshkosh) for guys like Matt Miller and DSA.

I will throw this out there right now.....  If Point scores 57 points or less on Saturday, Oshkosh comes away with a victory.

Just out of curiousity, how long have you been follwoing UWO basketball?  My guess is that since you are a student announcer, it is less than five years.  Is that really a fair sample size to say "you've seen them go the way side for the big games?"

When they have had a true leader on the court in that time period (Andy Fernholz) they have won some big games.  Now they have that leader again in Jordan Johnson.  Let's see if things repeat themselves.  You can stick with your opinion and I will stick with mine.

Mr. Downtown

I hope Oshkosh does as well as Fernholz's senior season, when they were 19-8 (11-5).

They are in a good position, and perhaps my mind is poisoned with last year (loss on the road to Whitewater, by 17, L to Elmhurst, L to SP, and 3 L's to Lax). I saw two guys who started right away and a core of players for four years that had all the chances in the world to get the job done, and they didn't.

So yes, my mind is still cynical and cautious when it comes to hope that Oshkosh can get over the hump. And yes, I did wish that Jim Capelle was like Tim Dworak and throw the team on his shoulders and lead them to the tourney. Fernholz was a great leader, and so is Johnson, but I'm hoping that Marsh is the next Oshkosh player that always comes through in the clutch, like he has done multiple times this season.

But when you lose close games at Eau Claire (which, was an upset) , at Lawrence, and be blown out of the water late against Platteville, I get a little worried.

Speaking of Platteville, and getting away from Oshkosh for a second, the Pioneers are for sure in the driver's seat to win the WIAC regular season crown. Going 2-1 on the road against Oshkosh, SP, and WW, the Pioneers will have all of those team's back on their home court. Oh, and Stevens Point comes in on the season finale.

With Oshkosh at Whitewater the week before, what a great way to end the WIAC season!!

Back to Oshkosh/SP : If Oshkosh wins against Point this Saturday, it would be the first time that the Titans have swept the Pointers since the Brad Clark day's of 1998.

And Cubs, I think you are right that if Point only manages 57 points against Oshkosh, they are going to be in trouble.

Skemp was tough to stop.  He's strong and I don't think he took a shot from beyond 3 feet.  Time seemed to stand still when he posted up.   Once the ball got inside to him it was over.  We had a chance to tie with 20 seconds remaining but missed a three point attempt, they made their free throws after that...game over.  Congrats
