I will throw this out there right now.....  If Point scores 57 points or less on Saturday, Oshkosh comes away with a victory.

... Unless Oshkosh scores less than "57 or less"... like they did in 4 of their 5 losses...

Oh, by the way, Point has won 5 straight WIAC games. Again, it was inevitable that the Pointers would be back.
That just menas they are due for a loss right? ;)

Or that they're getting USED to winning...  Speaking of trends... Oshkosh has lost 5 of their last 10... sounds like they're getting USED to losing!

OH...burn. The Point/Oshkosh smack talk is on! lol  :D ;D

Again, the Rule of 65 will play a part in Saturday's game. Oshkosh needs to score, because they have to yet to show this year they can win a defensive dog fight.

Badgerwarhawk is right WW had no answer for Skemp, but they out played P-ville on the boards and going for loose balls.  I liked P-ville's patience in getting the looks they wanted.  It was good to see Badger Assistant Greg Gard at teh game watching his brother and his former team play.   4 teams tied for first at the end of the first round I hope we don't beat up on each other to much so it means fewer WIAC teams in the tourney.

I think that it is inevitable, unless two teams make a serious run, while the other two flounder.

I thought he was going to dunk Brian Hunter with the ball that one time.  Hunter had him tied up but he just horsed the ball and Hunter up toward the rim.  He must have lifted Hunter a few feet off the floor before the ball finally broke free and rolled around the rim and in.   Incredible

Platteville won at Whitewater despite the Warhawks shooting 62% from the floor and not allowing the Pioneers, including Skemp, to score a field goal the final 6:50 of the game.  I believe Platteville was 15 of 16 from the line the final 5 minutes.  Despite the Warhawks loss, it was a great game in front of a pretty good crowd at Kachel Gym.

Greek Tragedy

Kind of "old news" now, but Point tops Eau Claire 57-44.

Just briefly, Eau Claire was up 19-4 with 13+ minutes gone in the first half.  I felt like it was going to be another Oshkosh game where our shots just didn't fall.  We had good looks, but they ball just kept coming out.  On the post game radio interview, Semling said they missed something like 8 LAYUPS.  The players got a little gun-shy then because several times they'd drive to the hoop, but apparently feeling they'd miss, they'd toss it back out!

Anyway, Point finally put some shots together and cut the lead to a very manageable 25-21 deficit.  Eau Claire came out and continued to play well, extending their lead briefly to 7 early in the 2nd half.  Point stormed back only for Eau Claire to take a four point lead with 9+ to go.  That would be the last time Eau Claire would make a field goal!  Point would go on a 20-3 run to close out the game.

Great defense by Point helped them get over the hump and some super duper coaching by Semling.  Jared Jenkins has come on strong lately and has played very well.  Drew Jackson also had a solid game.  At times, BOTH were on the court and playing very agressively.  Jenkins had back to back charges (questionable) called on him, but kudos for being aggressive and taking the ball to the hoop.

Late in the game, Point had FOUR starters on the bench.  Ross Rortvedt, Jared Jenkins, Matt Moses, Drew Jackson and Brian Beamish (only starter) were on the floor for what seemed like long periods of time.  The athleticism of Jenkins and Jackson, on both ends of the floor, really helped.

Eau Claire coughed the ball up 17 times (7 by Beyer) and Point ahd 11 steals.  Drew Jackson was probably player of the game, perfect from the floor AND the foul line, 8 pts, 2 rebs, 4 asts, 2 blks, and 3 stls.  Matt Moses can't be forgotten with SIX timely rebounds.  When it came down to brass knuckles, Hicklin came through as the leader the senior should be with 18 pts.

Pete Rortvedt went down early in the 2nd half with a knee problem, this time on his other knee (left).  Semling said preliminary, it was a hyper extended knee.  If he can't make the trip to Kolf, I'm more than confident someone will fill the void.
Looking forward to Oshkosh this weekend.

Skemp was tough to stop.  He's strong and I don't think he took a shot from beyond 3 feet.  Time seemed to stand still when he posted up.   Once the ball got inside to him it was over.  We had a chance to tie with 20 seconds remaining but missed a three point attempt, they made their free throws after that...game over.  Congrats
Watched the tape of UWW/UWP today and Badgerhawk was correct about all of his shots being within 3 feet of the basket. I counted 7 times in real time where he was standing in the paint for 4 or more seconds without have a ref call 3 seconds. Skemp is a great player but he got a lot of help from the refs in this one. He's good enough to not need the help. I was impressed with his play but I have to ask, where was the backside help when King fronted him? None what so ever. Also the announcers asked the question......why no double team???? A couple of times, on offense, King moved out to the top of the key and Skemp moved out with him and King was able to go to the basket and score....why didn't UWW do more of that? Good questions for Miller. Also, with 20 seconds left, UWW put in a 3 pt shot for McKay. Goodwin was wide open on the left side of the 3pt line as Koski was bringing the ball up....should he run the play or pass it to Goodwin???? Lots of mistakes by UWW yet it actually was a 3 point loss without the fouls at the end of the game. Good game for a team that lost it's " BEST PLAYER". I would love to have Perry back but keep it up guys and when he does come back you will still be in the race.

Yeah, I thought it was out for the year.

Also, STOUT GUYS.  I was going through the boxscores and saw that John Donald didn't show up on the scoresheet.  Is he hurt?

Perry is out 6-8 weeks--so early March---My question is why were they side fronting Skemp 15' from the bucket? 2 passes and he had King sealed off, I would guess Skemp scored 10 of his points because of that.  WW has not doubled a post player all year --the announcers must not pay attention. I agree however WW should have played behind and doubled.

Greek Tragedy

They had Rob Perry before (that's probably why they didnt' double all year).  Plus, unlike last year, there are only a few big time post players in the WIAC this season, IMO.

Cubs,

Here's my logic....Jason Kalsow is a very good player, but I don't know he was in the top 5.  He had a great run in 2003-2004, most of all he lead the Pointers to the Title and hit the Game Winner in the Title game that year.  That's why he is the POY; However, I don't know that he was better individually than the 5 I had posted.

I think you would want Kalsow's INDIVIDUAL 2004-2005 statistics included.

1st in scoring (19.1)
2nd in rebounding (7.4)
1st in assists (4.44)
4th in FG%
10th in FT%
12th in steals
1st in 3FG% (ok, he "only" took 89)  Nick Bennett took 194.
4th in blocked shots
2nd in assist/turnover ratio

Miller just doesn't want to give up open 3's. Perry's D is not his strength by any means. vrs Oshkosh WW allowed the post players 3 and 4 dribbles in the paint--cost them. I agree that there are only a few post players in the WIAC but let any of the top teams have that kind of time in the paint and even an average post player can score.
