Congratulations to Loras on beating our champions.

Now it is up to the pointers to carry our banner in the tournament.

Mr. Downtown

Well...I guess you can outshoot Whitewater  :-X :-\

Congratulations to Loras....White really took over the game...without some ridiculous three point shooting from Goodwin the Warhawks would not have been in the game...Loras defense really shut down the inside game of the Warhawks

kolinske ends his career w/ a turnover and a "no hands up" on that three pointer by kyle something or other.

Great game by the Duhawks.  UWW4ever, where you at the game.  First off, Kyle White is his name and he owned every big man Whitewater had.  And the 3 to win the game was with a hand in his face (actually probably touched White's hand cause he knocked him down after the shot, that is how close he was)  Very physical game but other than Goodwin shooting 7-14 from the three Whitewater didnt have much else.  I think I said Loras by 5 but I will take 71-70.  Great win for the IIAC.

Oh I actually said 77-74 Loras.  My BAD!!

Greek Tragedy

Whitewater goes down 71-70 (story and boxscore)

Whitewater started out 9-2, but Loras weathered the storm to come back to tie it.  Whitewater goes on a run with Goodwin on fire, hitting 4 3's in the first half (?) and Whitewater went into the locker room with a seemingly comfortable 10-pt lead.  I thought Whitewater would slowly pull away, but credit Loras for adjusting to McKay and Goodwin's speed.  They went zone to slow the guards down and when they went zone, there was a lot of standing around by the other players waiting for Goodwin and McKay to "do their magic".  At least that's how I saw it.  When they did penetrate, the whole Loras team seemed to collapse on them to force them into a bad shot or throw it out where the rest of the Whitewater team didn't seem like they had the confidence to shoot the ball.

Loras' guards were a handful.  They look like linebackers with Centella at 205 (6'2"), Oeth at 215 and the other forwards also coming in over 200 lbs.  They just seemed to muscle Whitewater in the paint by posting up their guards and smaller forwards agains the likes of the lighter Koski (185), McKay (185), Goodwin 175 and Hunter (170).  They also had some pretty impressive spin moves down low.  Obviously, White was the story and Whitewater couldn't stop him.

Loras came back after being down double digits in the 2nd half and took the lead when White nailed a near 25-footer with about 6 seconds left.  Goodwin came down, put in a little pump and when the defender jumped up, Goodwin leaned into him trying to get the foul.  Personally, I think it was a good no-call.  The ball got away from him and ended up in Koski's hands.  He launched from near the Whitewater bench and hit rim and came off.  Game, set, match.

It was a great effort by Loras and they definitely deserved to win because they never quit, even being down nearly all of the 2nd half.  A good crowd on hand, number-wise, but kind of quiet.  The student section was full and standing the whole time, but didn't seem to get into the game until about 5 minutes to go.

Enthusiastic Loras crowd and they were generally louder than the home folks all night.  Looking forward to a good 2nd round matchup, though I would've rathered have seen LU v WW.  Oh well.

Tom, if they hadn't wimped out on those 3rd place games, you could still see LU-UWW! :D

Gutsy win by Point tonight.  I was atthe game and when they went down 17-0, I thought they were done, but they came back and shut UC down big time the last 10 minutes of the first half, and got a ton of momentum on their buzzer beater at the end of the first half.  Point was definately more physical then UC, and the ref's let them bang quite a bit, and it helped Point as UC looked run down by the end of the game.  # 33 for POint had a huge game and controlled the tempo in the second half.  After seeing BV beat St. Thomas too, I think it will be a good game tonight.  They are strong inside, and should give the Pointers a run for thier money. Both teams shoot well from behind the arc, and it might be one of those games where whomever shoots better from 3 land wins...

HERE is the link to the Buena Vista win over St. Thomas, via St. Thomas...

The boxscore link is included.

Looking at the roster, it looks like Buena Vista is pretty big in the middle.  Point will definitely need to bunker down.

They outrebounded St. Thomas by 8, got 10 offensive rebounds (St. Thomas had 12), but they did turn the ball over 20 times...

Front line starters:

Person-6'6" 220 lbs
Fogleman-6'5" 265 (what in the world?! lol)
Cleveland-6'8" 225

Bench:

Friedrichsen-6'6" 210
Arndorfer-6'6" 250

BV was only 6-20 from 3 and we found a team that's worse at FTs than we are, they were 20-32! lol.  Looks like we'll have to make our shots because we probably won't get any rebounds.

They look very balanced like us, scoring and minutes played.  9 players got double digit minutes with the other two that played getting 9 minutes each.  10 of the 11 players that saw minutes scored, and it was at least 4 pts.

I would just like to say, as a Loras fan, seeing the Warhawks play for the very first time I was incredibly impressed with their guard play. Number 3 and 15 couldn't miss and 21 dealt the ball with ease. I am just wondering what happened to the big men?

Both teams played great and its sad to see the Warhawks go they were an awesome team to watch.

Go IIAC!

Good to see I got more minus karma for no reason.  Maybe if I said Loras played their best game and UWW played their worst game I would get some plus Karma cause that is obviously what happened (Loras is so lucky).

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

LCfan, since you're just an infant poster around here, let me tell you a couple things I've learned from personal experience (and mistakes) in this forum.  First, when you are behind enemy lines (or not), it's good to come across in a little more humble tone - win or lose.  Second, use of the K-word in a complaining sort of way will almost assuredly bring the smiters out.  And lastly, each of your posts have an infinite shelf life...so even if you think you've done nothing wrong, guess again (you can't satisfy everyone all the time)! Personally, I just went back for a minute to read all your posts (thanks for only having 23  ;D ) and nothing really stands out to me...I can't speak for anybody else.  +K for representing your team.

I was at the game, and now that I've had a chance to get a beer in me and sleep off the loss last night, I do remember now that Kolinske got a had in the face of White.  From my vantage point (corner behind WW bench, by the water jug), it looked like Kolinske had his hands down when White came up court.  Who knows if another player would have stopped White.  I think a defender in his grill would have been more effective.  Or a foul, but he prolly would have hit those too.

Plus my initial gut reaction to the defense was good in some parts of the post.  But Old School's rendition was much more detailed.  I did have a program and was checking out the size difference.  It was my first game in person.  Rob Perry, from the sidelines, kept imploring the Hawks to get their hands up when they came down on offense.  I thought Loras switching to zone was crazy, especially with how hot Goodwin was.  He was cranking up deep threes all night and hitting a few, but later in the game fatigue I think got to him, and fatigue was definately a part of WW's defensive display.

I will watch prolly the first half tomorrow.  I like Loras in this matchup.  Who knows is they can have the same intensity as last night, but we will see.  Wiele of Wheaton should have a good game too.

GO HAWKS
