Abercrombie -

You crap your pants lately?

Sounds like you've got it all figured out in terms of coaching. When should I look for you on the sidelines in the WIAC? You make it sound so easy.

I'll agree with one thing: RF's Hans Hoeg is the best guard in the WIAC. He plays on both ends of the court, doesn't miss a free throw and if he's got an open jumper -- count it. Rondeau did look good in his first start. RF could have a competetive team next season, but the loss at EC was a horrible loss to take.

I heard Gibbons say a funny thing on the WBIZ pregame show. "River Falls is 1-5, but they're probably the best 1-5 team in the nation." Does that strike anyone else as funny?

Gibby used to do a stand-up comedy act in Oshkosh in the early 80's I've heard.

So I expect him to bring out a few zingers just to make you laugh.  ::)

Are you serious?

Just to let you La Crosse cronies know (laxeagles1 and anyone else), Swampgoon (who rarely appears on the message board, but is usually with me at the games) and I are planning on making the trip cross state (I live in She-Vegas) to watch the women's and men's games this weekend.

So, if any of you would be so kind to inform us of "thee place to eat" or whatever, that'd be much appreciated.  If you care to join us and make acquaintance, I wouldn't object to that either.  At the very least, maybe say hi at the game(s).

Thank you for your time.

I posted this before the season, but since we are in full swing now I thought I would lay it out there again.

What's up with your cynicism of Coach K?  I know you have been riding him for three years, but seriously, stop the critical comments of your coach.  His team is finally experienced enough to win in the conference, and you're still bashing him.  I didn't see anything from Wednesday night that indicates he is doing a poor job on the bench, in fact he pulled the ole' Bo Ryan trick and got "T'd" up with LaCrosse up by 2 and they (La Crosse) proceeded to go on a 14-4 run.  I thought La Crosse played outstanding defense and worked well as a team.  There are no selfish players or head-cases, but what he does get is great effort.  I think you have to give credit where credit is due.  With that said, I expect La Crosse to be a contender come February because of good teamwork and good COACHING.

How about that UWL win at Platteville ? At the risk of being hyperbolic, I'd say that was the win that could really get the progam over the hump. I recognize that no one game makes a season, but after the loss to WW at home and a lackluster win at Zorn, I was unsure if the club was for real- or if it had fattened up on weak non-con opponents. A double-digit win on the road againt a quality opponent is a signature victory, and may serve as an announcement that there is a new contender with real potential to shake up the Conference. I eagerly await Saturday's game with Point.

BC, Whether it gets them over the hump or not I thought it was a pretty good win myself.   Any WARHAWK[/color] backer knows that beating Platteville in Platteville in not an easy task.  I can't help think the team will get a confidence boost from it and they're already talented.

Werner could be a huge factor in the game vs. Point.  They're going to have a problem matching up with him in the paint man to man.

Backer, don't go so hard on Eagle, if things play out as you expect he'll be back in the front row of the bandwagon soon enough.

Pioneerbacker,

Take a look back at pages 38-39.  We got to the root of the cynicism.  One of his friends got cut from the team a few years ago, and LaXEagles has been bitter ever since.

Old School,
I am not from La Crosse and so I don't know how I know this, but you want to go to a sports bar called "The Eagles Nest".  It is right across the parking lot from the gym. (If you are on the football side of the building you are on the wrong side).  Great food and the owner and people working know La Crosse sports.

Kinda late posting

We got dominated by la crosse the other night.  We couldnt keep up with them well, and we had no answer for werner.  Lax didnt need to press lol, we played bad enough that they didnt have to.

But anyway remember that are team is pretty young and we will be better in mid january or so.  So dont expect p-ville to be a push over this year.

I think you misconstrued my statement.  I was saying that at this point the players are holding up the end and so are the coaches.  Due to the past 2 seasons I still have doubts that the coaching staff can maintain this for their players.  It is getting better though, and I like what I see, especially defensively............still think there is room for a more uptempo offense though

I know I always seem cynical but sometimes that is just my way of speech.......In no means was that comment, in that juncture meant to knock the coaching staff at this given point in the season........I am happy with what i see.......I can only hope this continues

playdefense

For all you posters who keep challenging laxeagles1 on his criticism of Coach K...........I think it's hopeless to convince him of Coach K's ability.  Laxeagles1 will never stop, it doesn't matter how well the Eagles do.  If they win he'll praise the players and if they lose he'll blame it on Coach K and his staff.

This is my last post about Coach K in reagard to emails from laxeagles1.  But, hear me loud and hear me clear laxeagles1.  How do you know what it takes to be the head coach of an NCAA men's basketball program?  First and formost it takes a deep love of people and a deep love of the game of basketball.  Second, it takes a supportive family.  Third it takes endless hours of film breakdown, preparation, talent evaluation, scouting, travel time to games and to watch recruits.  Most head coaches and thier staffs at the NCAA level get little to no sleep during the season.  They are always thinking, preparing and evaluating.  Fourth, it takes thick skin to not listen or pay attention to critics who don't know or understand the first thing about coaching and competing at the college level.

I respect and understand that you're entitled to your opinion.  However, don't think that your opinion will be respected and understood without the experience or expertise of a guy like Coach K, or any other collegiate head coach.

Coach K's record may not show it yet.........but, I know he is doing all he can to get the LaX program to the top pf the WIAC.  He is an incredibly diciplined and orgnaized individual, who works his tail off because he cares about his players and the best game ever invented.  I know that he does everything he can to have his team prepared to play in each and every game.

Laxeagles1, I challenge you to approach Coach Koelbl about joining the team as a manager, student assistant coach, or even as a free lance reporter.  You could write a short book on what it takes to run a program and prepare a team to play in the WIAC and the NCAA.  Then, and only then, will I be able to respect or respond again to any criticism you have about Coach Koelbl.

By the way.........good luck to the Eagles Saturday night vs. the Pointers!  I believe they've got a great shot to win!

I know, PointSpecial.  It's easy for students (I know, since I'm a student) to be against the coaches and take the side of the players, but when a coach is doing a pretty good job, it's time to give him some credit.  I've seen enough Pioneer basketball over the years to know good coaches from "bad" one's.
