The Pioneers have a nice little weekend planned.  First, tomorrow evening they head to Rock Island to scrimmage against Augustana, then head for Peoria to play their exhibition game against Bradley University.  Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond...I don't know if they'll have time though! ;D

I personally will not be making either trip, as I am heading northeast for the weekend which will end on Saturday catching the UWO-UWP football game, and Oshkosh nightlife.

Hey Whitewater guys....

Any truth to the rumor that former Evansville College and Milwaukee King standout Dupree Flethcer was practicing with the Warhawk's earlier in the season?

The rumor has been floating around, so I was just curious if there was any substance to it.

No truth to it at all.

Looks like the UWO season opener against St. Norbert is going to be at Albee Hall instead of Kolf. The UWO volleyball team is hosting an NCAA Regional that night (11/15), although Kolf could be turned around in time. Just don't think the NCAA would allow a regional host to have another event on the floor, but I could be wrong. Anyway, just a heads-up.

I like the environment at Albee – the stands are very close to the court – but the small floor is subpar. I hope the Albee floor plays better than it did several years ago, when UWO played there against Lawrence. Could have been a travel called on every possession. It was like an ice rink in an oven with all the sliding in a ridiculously hot gym. Anyone remember that game?

The UWO 12-man roster is online.

I wonder if Albee has the proper markings for the new 3 pt line.  If so, then the floor is likely brand new... that may effect how much sliding there will be.

Also, looksl ike WIAC media day was today:

Noticed there are two photos accompanying 2008-09 stories on the Point site. One is of Beamish. The other is of El-Amin. Think that means anything? Would be weird to have a photo of a guy who isn't going to play, though.

FWIW, Pete Rortvedt's pic is by the above story.

Guess it doesn't mean anything :-[.

EDIT: The Point release kinda makes it seem like Pete is playing, doesn't it? I hope he plays. He's fun to watch, but TVD's voice saying Rortvedt isn't playing defintely hit my eardrums correctly. Then there's this from the WIAC release:
Returning All-WIAC:  Pete Rortvedt, Sr., F (2006-Honorable, 2007-First, 2008-First); Bryan Beamish, Sr., F (2007-Honorable, 2008-First)
We'll soon see if he got shaky intel, Pete's not the Rortvedt he was talking about or whatever the case may be. Anyone confirm his status?

Greek Tragedy

Gives me hope that he's playing.

Tomorrow is the Pointers' Purple/Gold game.  Last year's roster is still up.

Not unexpectedly the WARHAWKS get the meaningless preseason nod from the SIDs.

I would have voted for Platteville.

No disrespect to Whitewater, but I would have too.

BW, what's WW's status in terms of big guys?  Who graduated, who's back, etc?  I only got to see WW once last year, in the conf tourney final, and they seemed really balanced... moreso than even Platteville, when I went to Platte and saw the blowout there in the last regular season game against Point.

EDIT:  I'm wondering how meaningless it really is, though...  I mean, yes, it's just a ranking of sorts, which means nothing, and  I don't have stats on it, but does anyone know how many preseason picks went ahead and won the conference?

The clincher may be Pete being named a D3hoops preseason All-American. The lesson may be don't believe everything you hear on the radio.

Oh, and count me as voting for Platteville over Whitewater, too.

janesvilleflash

Some of the WW midnight madness was televised locally. The players interviewed were all talking defense and roll playing.......now if they REALLY are buying into that, the rest of the conference is in big trouble.  Talk, however, is cheap.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Congrats to Jeff Skemp on being named to the D3hoops.com's first team preseason All Americans.  Interestingly Pete Rortvedt is named to the third team.  Will he play?

WW's bigs this year include Dustin Mitchell (6'9"), Kory Vernon (6'6") and Billy Kolinske (6'6").  I suspect Jack Simon (6'8") and possibly Ryan Strauss (6'8") will see playing time.  Vernon plays bigger than than 6'6" and both Myles McKay (6'3") and Chris Vines (6'3") do as well.  But it's obvious we don't have a Jeff Skemp and like most everyone else in the league he will present a difficult matchup.

Josh King and Rob Perry are not with the team.   King graduated and Perry is still in school and playing on the football team but used up his eligibility in basketball.

I can't answer your questions regarding the SIDs ability to pick winners.

I have a reliable source in Stevens Point that says Pete Rortvedt and Khalifa El-Amin are in fact playing. No Ross Rortvedt or Drew Jackson or the blonde kid from kaukana.

Well, that's a Rortvedt and Drew Jackson. If true, that's confirmation of TVD's info. Tell Bryan and/or Vinny thanks.

Scott Hoelzel...that's too bad.  He was a nice little spark off the bench.

I liked Drew off the bench too.  He was very athletic and quick.  I was always excited when he came off the bench.  Ross not coming back is a big blow.  He was a great shooter and a very solid defender.

The silver lining is that Pete and El Amin are coming back.  I hope to make the purple gold game tomorrow.
