UWEC loses to Ohio Wesleyan, 87-78.  Blugolds have some players banged up and not at full strength.  Still, a good effort against a 2008 NCAA tourney team.

Does Rortvedt always shoot that much? He sure wasn't hitting.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Superior dispatches St Scholastica for its first win of the year. I think the entire team at least got on the floor--not at the same time, of course. I expected more of a battle, since CSS beat River Falls. What's the outlook for RF this year? The Supes lead CSS all the way through. I think CSS's first 11 points were on free throws.   Shane Manor looked like he got winded and seemed to be limping at times; maybe I'm hallucinating. I hope so.

Yeah, he shoots that much.  It's either way on (8-19, 6-13 3-pt in the first game for 22) or way off (2-14, 1-9 3-pt for 6 points in 2nd game).

I don't mind him doing that.  His shot can be that good.  There aren't too many times when he takes an ill-advised shot.

ph_r--RF is extremely young. They start 4 sophs and a freshman. Yesterday they shot 30% but still managed to lead most of the second half, only to lose to Judson (4-2) 74-70. I was not there, but it looks like Jontae Koonkaew, who got 19 pts. in 18 minutes got in foul trouble early. Aaron Anderson, freshman, got 13 pts. Jake Voeltz had 10 rbds.
Ten players got double figure minutes, so they are very deep

Falcons play at 4:00 this afternoon in second game of Northwestern's tournament, but I don't know who the opponent is, either NW or North Central, I think.

WARHAWKS trounce the Whitman Missionaries 90-62.  WHITEWATER trailed 6-4 but Matt Goodwin hit a three-pointer and they never looked back.   Hitting 57% from the floor while holding Whitman to 36% we were able to substitute liberally.  Matt Goodwin led four WARHAWKS in double figures with 25 points.  Myles McKay added 18, Chris Vines added 10 and Dustin Mitchell had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

WHITEWATER will play tournament host Lewis & Clark who defeated Cal State East Bay 86-78 tonight.

They'll play the latter ... which is North Central (MN), incidentally, not the CCIW outfit that's located in Naperville, IL.

fredf--believe me, I know about starting a young lineup. Our veteran starters are four sophomores and a junior.

Jake Smith got intermittant playing time and still managed to get in foul trouble. Fortunately, the team didn't panic when Jake was on the bench. That was refreshing.

Interesting point in the game: CSS coach gets T'd twice in the span of a few seconds and got the boot early in the game. The first T must have elicited some kind of discussion about the refs parentage or sex life. Fastest double T I've ever seen, and I missed most of it when I blinked.

Pioneer Hoops Fan

Pioneers roll last night 104-69 over Clarke College.  Hit school record 14 3's on 27 attempts.  Probably could've scored 125 points, but had a big lapse through the middle of the first half.

Game Story

Will add one thing about this game, and it really has nothing to do with the guys on the floor.  UWP has spent a little bit of money to upgrade the scoreboards, backboards, and sound system.  This coming through foundation donations I believe.  Regardless of where it came from, I'm sure it wasn't cheap.  With that said, I will say that it looked absolutely stupid and completely ridiculous that one of the brand new scoreboards does not go to 100!  So one end read 104-69, other side 04-69.  I understand that the Men's team had not scored 100 points since 1995, but it is basketball.  This team this year has score 87 and 104 in their two games.

With that said, I would like to congratulate the team on the win, but also give a big pat on the back to the individual that picked out the new system.  It's beautiful, but it isn't complete.  I don't know how one could think it would be a good idea to put scoreboards into a basketball gymnasium that do not have triple digits.

Falcons beat North Central (MN), 71-47. Aaron Anderson, freshman from Stillwater, MN, led with 13, according to the radio guy. However, the winners'  performance pales in comparison to that of the lady Falcons, who eked out an 84-17 win over the North Central women.

WOW!  I was just following the live stats for the UWL game.  UWL had a 15 point lead with 4 minutes left and ended up losing by 2.

UWEC is about to finish off Staten Island comfortably

A significant stat I missed in the previous post:  Steve Farmer came off the bench to get 14 rbds., nine offensive.  I don't think Melzer EVER got that many in one game. I wonder what the single game WIAC offensive rbd record is. Or, the UWRF offensive rbd. record, for that matter.
