Where is Lou? Is he hurt or what?

He's nursing a stress fracture in his leg and has been in a walking boot for several weeks.

Man is it just me or does it seem like point has taken a big turn to the south.

Platteville and Whitewater have to be the favs

Point played well the first 4 games but the LU game was a stinker. Without Pete R they certainly won't beat WW.

In the CCIW/WIAC matchups this evening:

Elmhurst wins over UWL, 67-54

UWW wins at North Central, 62-54

fredfalcon

Falcons (3-3) win unimpressively, 64-53, over Viterbo (1-7). Fifteen turnovers for Falcons, 19 for Viterbo do not a crisply played game make. RF will not compete with Oshkosh playing that kind of ball.

WEATHER REPORT for any UWL and/or UWW fans planning on attending games in Elmhurst and Naperville this evening.................

Right now its mostly cloudy and 38. Streets in the area are completely clear.
Supposed to begin raining at about 2 PM and start turning to snow around 4 PM.
Total accumulation expected to be 2-3 inches by very late night-early morning. By the time the games end we should probably only be approaching the 2 inch mark. I see the estimate for Whitewater is 4 inches. Hopefully, by time to head back north, the plows will have had time to make things manageable.
Charge up those cell phones and throw some extra coats, gloves, and a shovel in the trunk as an added precaution. Safe trips to all.

didn't go, but thanks for the heads up.  Gave you some karma.

I think it is safe to say (not to downplay what the Vikes did last night...)  that Point is not a top 10 team without Rortvedt and Hurd.

I questioned their Top 10 ranking before this and that was with Rortvedt and Hurd.  It was a bad game, plain and simple.  I mean, Lawrence lost to Marian in the last week, and the LU faithful said that nothing went right.  LU is a good team.  It was a loss, but I'm not basing our season on that game.

Comments like this both amuse me and irritate me.  One tough or bad loss and some think they may as well throw in the towel on the whole season.  To answer your question, it's just you....no, Point has not taken a big turn to the south.  LU has been the best MWC team for the last few years.  They were ranked in the preseason.  They have the MWC player of the year on their team and, like Point, they play fundamental offense and sound defense.

Jack Bennett set a near-impossible standard for Semling to achieve.  BANDIT and I were talking and the team isn't as solid defensively as they were in the Bennett days.  But, they are a very good team with some real good players.  I think that Matt Moses has a good shot to get 1st All-Conference this year.  He's been awesome on both ends of the floor.  Depth was also talked about at the LU game.  Rortvedt and Hurd are out.  We lost Hicklin to graduation, Hoelzel, Drew Jackson and Ross Rortvedt didn't return for various reasons.  The numbers may not show it, but those players were very important to Point's team, IMO.  Point Special is right, someone else will need to step up, especially if Pete Rortvedt is out for more than a few games.  No inside presence in Appleton, so Nick Krull will have to really be big on Saturday.

Beamish not taking outside shots is the least of my concerns.  He needs to get inside and make those contested layups, and more importantly, get some rebounds.  Zero boards on Tuesday is inexusable.

BANDIT asked me if it truly was just a two-horse race between Whitewater and Platteville.  I said, "No!"  It's a long season.

As for your 2nd comment, Platteville and Whitewater were the favs in the first place!

One loss does not a season ruin particularly in this league where the odds of anyone going undefeated are poor.  If any team has a shot at it I'd put my money on Platteville.  Semling is a damned good coach and he'll look at the LU tape and know what he has to have his team work on.  They have talent and they'll cause plenty of problems for teams in the conference season.  I just hope they haven't gotten things straightened out by Saturday. ;)

Bowling is in two weeks.  But I'm one of the football scoreboard operators so I'll be busy that afternoon.  You know we're playing Wartburg, the team that eliminated Stevens Point, right?  ;)
And my sister's Xmas party is that evening in Waunakee so I'm not sure that I'll even be able to listen to the game.

I may skip bowling this month.  If things work out the way I'm hoping I could be in Salem that Saturday.

Nice story  about Platteville's Brianna Klaas and her battle with cancer in todays Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.  I also posted on the WIAC Women's board.

Hoops Junkie

Old school if i annoyed you i'm glad because at least i made you think that maybe the pointers are not quite as good.

Sure bennett makes it pretty hard to live up to but obviously they are not the same club.  The talent level has too fallen off.  I have not seen as much talent as they had in the Bennett days.

Maybe the economic downturn has hurt the use of the Sentry scholarship.

I think if Skemp stays healthy he is a tough matchup for everyone including whitewater.

I pick platteville and Whitewater to establish a two horse race for the crown.

Greek Tragedy

No worries.  I was very surprised when the d3hoops rankings came out and they were 6th in the nation.  So, I have tempered my expectations, especially with Whitewater and Platteville returning basically everyone and teams like Superior on the up and up.  I don't have purple and gold tinted glasses and try to be realistic, even on the pessimistic side!

I expect Point, Whitewater, and Platteville to duke it out at the top this year.

Not necessarily in that order!  ;D
