LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL......No matter how hard I try I still can't get it straight.   Too freakin' funny. ROTFLMAO

What makes it even funnier is
1. I don't even notice it when I do it   and
2. That an assistant coach for Cardinal Stritch, Kyle Brockmier (sp?) is a former UW-WHITEWATER assistant who left us to coach at Mount Senario.  Some of us felt it was a bad move but he really wanted a head coaching position.  I think it lasted one, maybe two seasons and then the school went belly up.  He moved on to UW-Rock County for awhile and then I lost track of him until last night when there he was.

Some random news from Stevens Point...

UWSP now has a live mascot!  Check out this... holiday greetings(?)...  card from Chancellor Linda Bunnell.  Can any other D-3 programs boast this, let alone any other WIAC schools?

Also, I got a letter from UWSP today, saying that on Feb 7th 2009, Point will dedicate the Quandt Fieldhouse floor in honor of Dick and Jack Bennett... and it will appropriately be named "Dick and Jack Bennett court."

In addition to the naming of the court, there will be new Championship banners in Quandt Fieldhouse, new Quandt game lighting, custom lobby trophy displays, central lobby National Championship display, custom wall murals, new lobby lighting, enhanced "open design" floor plan for the lobby, New Quandt Fieldhouse entrance doors, player and coach profiles, and other historic highlights.

I don't know the schedule for the major renovations... but the court naming ceremony itself will take place on Feb 7th.  I was in the process of making plans to be at the Alumni game on Jan 24th against Oshkosh, but I think I'll come to this instead!

UWP over Dubuque, 71-50.  Skemp with 23pts

buf

UWL battles, but falls at #4 St. Thomas, 94-87 in OT.  A horrible start to the OT doomed UWL.

buf

UWO fends off a Carroll comeback and wins in OT 90-82.  UWO had a 8-point lead with less than 1:30 left in regulation but Carroll battled back and hit a 3 at the buzzer to tie it and send it into OT.  UWO went down early in OT.  However Flanigan hit a shot while being fouled that put UWO in front for good.  Interestingly enough, those 3pts were the only bench points the entire game for UWO.

It may just have been cautionary too...  I mean, he aggravated it at Elmhurst... and it may just take time to heal.

Good to see Hurd back!

Jontae Koonkaew had a career nite at BSU:  27 pts., 9 assists. Thirteen pts. in last 4:19 to overcome a ten point BSU lead. So far, RF is the surprise team of the league.

Congratulations to RF on a great win.

We have had a brutal schedule so far.  We have stuck with some good teams, but usually came up short.  And conference isn't going to be any easier.

La Crosse was picked 7th and River Falls picked 8th.  La Crosse just lost to St. Thomas in OT, while River Falls lost pretty handidly.  In conference, the Falcons do have that upset win of Oshkosh at home, while also beating Stout at home.  In addition, they had a close loss to Platteville.  La Crosse has yet to win in two away conference games, at Point and at Eau Claire, but they have beaten Augustana and a good Carroll team, and of course the close loss to the Tommies.

Slight nod to who?

Hello from across the border...

I've seen River Falls play twice this year – the 2nd half of their game against St. Thomas (UST) back in November, & the game against Platteville last week.  I also watched La Crosse play UST yesterday.  River Falls seems to have improved a ton since the beginning of the year & I was very impressed with LAX's team.

I'd give the slightest edge to UWL right now.  The player I was perhaps the most impressed with from LAX is junior transfer Trevor Stratton.  He's a very physical, strong 2G listed at 6-2 205lbs & he did a masterful job defending UST's best player, guard Joe Scott who goes 6-4 190lbs.  Up until yesterday Scott had been outstanding from the floor & for the year was averaging over 50% overall FGA & 50% from behind the arc.  Yesterday, Joe Scott was 4-14 overall & 2-7 from downtown.  Trevor Stratton was a big reason for Scott's atypical outing.  On the offensive side of the ball Stratton was also very effective as he scored 20 pts on 7-9 shooting, 4-5 3FGA & 2-3 from the charity stripe.  He reminded me of the big, physical guards that UW-Platteville has in Curt Hanson, Nick Allen & Charlie Lohoff.

River Falls has players that are Stratton's size but they don't provide the same consistent offensive threat of a Stratton.  Since both clubs are relatively young, I would imagine both clubs will be in the thick of the WIAC playoff hunt next season.  Next year I'd say the edge would go to the Falcons of River Falls as they've got a real nice nucleus in players like Jontae Koonkaew, Aaron Anderson, Jake Voelz & Wade Guerin.

"If anything here offends, I beg your pardon. I come in peace, I depart in gratitude." ;)

I'm a little prejudiced, but I'd say La Crosse.

However, I worry about a team that loses a lot of close games.  I sometimes think they just don't know how to win.

Also, over the last several years, La Crosse just doesn't move off the ball much.
