Great game last night in Platteville.  The atmosphere brought back memories of the many Bo-Augie era games.  While disappointed with the Warhawk loss, lets remember that last night's game was only the halfway point of the conference season.  Platteville and Stevens Point still have to travel to UWW.

I sure hope Whitewater fans turn out at those games like Platteville fans did last night. The "Pit" was sold out!  That doesn't happen very much any more.  Dubuque newspaper reports that it was just the second sell out since Bo left Platteville for D1 basketball.  The 2316 in the house certainly got their money's worth.

Thank you to the Madison media that was at last night's game.  A special thank you to the Wisconsin State Journal for having both Bryan Watson and Rob Hernandez working the game.  Rob, the high school sports guru, blogged the entire night at Bo Ryan Court. Check out Rob's blog and get unique insight and feel for the game.

Unless the town proves me wrong, or the students keep showing up in the numbers they did last night, I'd say it is the last sell out until the conference tourney.  Really hope the community will forget the Badgers for now after last night's game show some support for the best show in town.

I'm a bit nervous that Platteville got to play Point and Whitewater at home in the first half.  Going to be much tougher for the Pioneers to pull this one out having to travel to Point and Whitewater in the second half.  I do think that Platteville has shown an ability to play well on the road.  I know I'll be on the fan bus when the Pioneers travel to Whitewater.

Last night was another one of those instances where if you were just a fan of basketball, and not of one of the teams playing, you had to love this game.  Everytime the Pioneers looked to take control, Whitewater would answer.  Really was a game of runs, and whoever made the last one was going to win.  Too bad they couldn't add like 10 minutes, just for fun and so we could see 10 more minutes of some of the best basketball being played in D3.

Of the three technicals, I'd say only Goodwin's was deserved.  He must have said one of the "no-no" words, which the official heard and called him on it.  Not sure how Combs could be whistled for being out of the box as he was walking toward the baseline.  At least say it was his actions of "throwing a ball against the back wall" than being out of the box.  Also, not sure how the same official could call Miller for his when he was talking with another official by his bench.  Don't know what Miller was doing, but he was getting the explanation from the official who made the technical call against Goodwin.

Great game.  Platteville now prepares to travel to always dangerous Johnson Fieldhouse in Menominee.  Hated playing there.

In an effort to answer the poll question of who had the best game and because I don't feel much like discussing last night's WARHAWK loss ;)  I decided to apply the NBA's efficency rating to each player's game.  The NBA's efficency rating is determined by adding points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals and from that total subtracting (shots attempted minus shots made), (free throws attempted minus free throws made) and turnovers.

Using that critera DJ Marsh edged out Kori Vernon +40 to +39.  Matt Moses was third with a rating of +30 followed by Ryan Shea (+29), Myles McKay (+28), Jake Smith (+26), Pete Rortvedt (+25) and Matt Miller (+22).

Voice, it was a great game sorry I didn't get over to your table after the game I had to go to the Booster gathering and have a glass of milk b-4 my long drive home.  The crowd was great even after the game started and it looked full people kept on coming in If I recall one of those sell outs was when they named the court after Bo and alot of that crowd left after halftime not last night they stayed on the edge of their seats untill the end.  Whitewater still doesn't have an answer for Skemp and P-ville has a problem with your quickness at guard thought WW did a great job of finding the open man for easy shots.  Shaw did a great job in holding Goodwin down but WW found other answers.  A little concerned that the refs would take over the game & all 3 T's were on the other side of the court so I can't comment on deserved or not.  Does anybody know of someone who wants tickets for the UW-Iowa game cuz I'm going to Kachel Gym to watch round two of a great WIAC rivalry.

   Coach of the year:  Semling-SP
   Conference Champ:  Whitewater
Player of the Year:  Myles McKay

Player of the year was between McKay and Marsh.  McKay's Whitewater is much better than Marsh's Oshkosh and the nod goes to the conference champ, or at least the team in contention.

No Pointers on the 1st team as they play too much "team ball" to have someone stand out.  If there was a player, it'd be Rortvedt because of his hustle and what he does that doesn't show up on the stat sheet.

Players that just missed the All-Con. team:  Geoff Probst, Wade Guerin, Jake Voeltz, Jerrod Buchholtz, and Dan Culy.

Dwight Hill and Brandon Brown didn't make the list as they have only played in half the conference games thus far.

About the same as Old School picking an all-conference team and not putting any of his Pointers on the first team!

So what happened to Dwight Hill? He was hurt, then he came back and looked good against RF, then did he get hurt again? Anyone?

Is there any chance that an 8-8 UWO team could put THREE guys on 1st Team All WIAC squad?  I'm going to say no, but I've seen stranger things happen..... ::)

Like Stout turning it around and going 8-8 this year, you will have to excuse me I am still happy I got the poll question with Point and Stout thing wrong, we should get another post about Stout going 8-8, it seems to be good luck.
You are only as good as the people around you.

Come on, Badgerwarhawk, I want to hear your reaction to that amazing game last night.  I saw your Warhawks Sat. and thought that they would not lose another game.  Talk to us about that Goodwin 3, tech, tech, game over thing.  This is an opinion board.  Give us one.  The heck with the numbers.  Give us some attitude.

phoenix_rising

Just looking at the Superior vs Stout men's stats, I would say Superior had trouble putting the ball in the basket. The first half kind of looks like neither team wanted to win; after that, I suppose Stout decided if Superior didn't want it, Stout might as well take it.

Dwight Hill disappears, again. But, here's the deal: the better part of the starting squad is sophomores, Hill was a sophomore when he provided the leadership the team needed; ergo, there should be plenty of leadership on this team. Forgive me if I state the obvious: something is not right in Souptown.

On the other hand, the women looked pretty perky last night.

As a UWP student who is trying to revive the atmosphere of the "Bleacher Creatures" of the late '90s, I think the crowds in the student section at least will stay full. There's no sports for students to cheer for that do well except Men's BB, and fans have been looking to this season since the disappointing 1st round loss to EC in the conf tourney last year. As momentum towards the end of the regular season builds (especially with the win vs WW) the town will show up and wear their orange and blue.

The student section filled the bleachers from top to bottom and didnt sit down during the WW game. It'll happen again this season at The 'Ville. Just wait! ;D

I'd like to see other posters' 1st team All-Conference selections, at the very least!

It's possible, but only if you play for Stevens Point.  ;D  Point has had THREE 1st team All-Conference players selected each of the last two years.  I didn't even know that until I checked when the last time a team had 3 on 1st team.
