***Note some of these selections were based on past repetitions and how I think they will receive votes if the season ended today, this is not necessary my list of the "10 best". I also tried to take into account other past voting experiences, such as the "Big 3" example where a 9-7 Oshkosh team probably won't have three players making first team.

Greek Tragedy

I'm very impressed thus far with Stevens Point, especially in conference play.  I didn't think we had much of a chance against Whitewater at home when we were without Rortvedt and Hurd.  Plus, we were down something like 12 at halftime.  We also had big road win at Oshkosh.  We usually struggle in Kolf and those guys always play us tough.  This weekend's game will be a barnburner too, against Oshkosh, as they've come on strong recently.  They've won three in a row, though all at home.  We also had a great win at Platteville.  Our 2nd half schedule is favorable because we have 5 home and 3 away.  I think it was last year when Stout took us into OT up there, so that'll be a tough one and we also have that big game in Whitewater.  We also have the long road trip to Superior done with.  Our three roadies will be tough.  Along with the two I already mentioned, we have to go to La Crosse.  Though only 2-6, I have a feeling they'll play well at home.  Looking forward to the 2nd half of the season!

In an effort to answer the poll question of who had the best game and because I don't feel much like discussing last night's WARHAWK loss ;)  I decided to apply the NBA's efficency rating to each player's game.  The NBA's efficency rating is determined by adding points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals and from that total subtracting (shots attempted minus shots made), (free throws attempted minus free throws made) and turnovers.

Using that critera DJ Marsh edged out Kori Vernon +40 to +39.  Matt Moses was third with a rating of +30 followed by Ryan Shea (+29), Myles McKay (+28), Jake Smith (+26), Pete Rortvedt (+25) and Matt Miller (+22).
Come on, Badgerwarhawk, I want to hear your reaction to that amazing game last night.  I saw your Warhawks Sat. and thought that they would not lose another game.  Talk to us about that Goodwin 3, tech, tech, game over thing.  This is an opinion board.  Give us one.  The heck with the numbers.  Give us some attitude.

Are you trying to get me in trouble again, Stoutguy?  :D

It is always disappointing when officals essentially decide the game.  However I wasn't in attendance nor able to listen to the game on the radio as I was busy timing the women's game.  So I don't really know what to say about them.  Some people I have spoken with felt that warnings were in order and none of the technicals should have been called.  Some have said that the one on Miller was a make up for the one Combs got.   Perhaps that is the case but the reality is that they were called, we couldn't overcome them and Platteville won.  You have to give them credit where credit is due.  We just have to put it behind us, work hard to get ready for Superior, who played us tough in our gym twice last year, and keep ourselves in a position where the Platteville and Point games in our gym mean something.  This isn't over yet.

I know it's not much "attitude" but what can I say?

As a UWP student who is trying to revive the atmosphere of the "Bleacher Creatures" of the late '90s, I think the crowds in the student section at least will stay full. There's no sports for students to cheer for that do well except Men's BB, and fans have been looking to this season since the disappointing 1st round loss to EC in the conf tourney last year. As momentum towards the end of the regular season builds (especially with the win vs WW) the town will show up and wear their orange and blue.

The student section filled the bleachers from top to bottom and didnt sit down during the WW game. It'll happen again this season at The 'Ville. Just wait! ;D

I have no doubts.  The students have been fantastic this year.  Wish we had our conference schedule switched this year, where we had 5 home games in the second half of the season so the students could play more of a factor.  As for Wednesday night, anytime you have to start filling the reserved section of bleacher with student spill over is great.  Just because you're on the reserved section shouldn't scare you in to cheering much like you do on the other side.  The community people need a good kick in the rear to get up and cheer.

Keep up the good work Pvegas!

Just the right amount, BW.  That's why I enjoy your posts.  I didn't see the game or listen to it either.  I just always react to hearing about a great basketball game and then having the sense that the officials played way too big of a part.  Sometimes it can't be helped.  Other times, officials', players', and coaches' personalities get in the way of the performances on the floor.

Well, we don't really have enough information to have informed opinions.  We don't what was said, or done, to bring on the technicals.

I'm not greatly impressed with the quality of WIAC officiating, but they are essentially volunteers, calling the games for love of basketball.

True, they make 100 bucks and they have to love the game to do it.  I'm just saying I do have enough information to have the opinion that it is too bad when a game like that one is decided by 4 technical fouls.

There's no way that Point misses out on getting any 1st team all-conference players.  Even if they don't win the conference, they'll get at least 1, if not 2.  If they win the conference, they'll have at least 2.

Numbers aren't everything... there's a lot more that goes into an all-conference pick than points and rebounds.

Since I was at the game, maybe I can help you out. The T on the Plt bench was against Coach Combs being outside the coaches box. Even though I'm a Plt fan that call is pretty easy to make since Combs tends to roam everywhere when its a close game and he was stomping his feet and almost to the media table at one point. The T vs Goodwin was for a taunt to the UWP students (F yeah! im pretty sure, since i was about 20ft away from him) and that was a pretty obvious call. The 2nd T on the WW bench was on Coach Miller while he was getting an explanation from one of the refs. I don't doubt that the ref heard him correctly since he was standing right next to him. Even though its a shame that the turning point of the game was those techs, it doesnt mean that they were unjustified.

Is that enough information?

It took the WARHAWKS less than 5 minutes to build up a double digit lead that would grow to as many as 19 points before the half ended with the WARHAWKS up 16, 47-31.   The lead got to as many as 23 points before the YGs cut into it and it finished at 15, 88-73.  Myles Mckay led four players in double figure scoring with 19 points.  Matt Goodwin scored 17 points, pulled down 7 rebounds and had 4 assists.  Dustin Mitchell (14 points, 6 rebounds) and Phil Negri (12 points, 5 assists) rounded out the group.  The WARHAWKS shot 62.5% from the floor in the first half and 60% for the game.

Jake Smith led Superior with a game high 29 points.  Gred Roeder, 14 points, and Ben Aalfs, 13 points, also scored in double figures for the YGs.  Superior played short handed with only 9 players dressed.  Hill, Culy and another player were not dressed.   Maybe they would have been more competitive with a full roster.
