Carroll caught Point coming off of a 10 day layoff and beat them at Quandt by 14, They played better and deserved to win. I don't think that would happen today. Carroll and St Norbert just don't have the "body of work" that the 3 top WIAC teams do.

Eddie the Eagle.  How original::)

Those aren't the same. La Crosse is "Eddie" the Eagle. Edgewood is "Eddy" the Eagle. The names are completely different.

La Crosse better hope that the NRA doesn't catch wind of their naming, I think they have a  copyright on "Eddie the Eagle" for one of their gun safety programs ???

I suspect he was thinking of the Olympic ski-jumper (British, I believe) - Eddie the Eagle was all the rage in 2002(?).

The six finalists for the name, with Eddie the Eagle eventually winning out, were: Baldy, Eddie, Edgar, Ernie, Screech and Talon.

Eddie was introduced on Saturday during the school's DH vs. UWEC. I think the two other finalists were Screech and Talon? I forget...

Students, faculty and staff voted on the name; one person who voted for the winning name was randomly selected to win a lifetime general admission all-sports pass to all home athletic contests, excluding conference and regional tournament games.

2002? Good grief, Chuck, what sort of a time warp are you living in, anyway? :D

I think I could have voted on that as a retired faculty member, but I didn't like any of the final names.

I have no access to the coaches, and I don't think Brian does, either.  Of course, he can speak for himself.

Big K was Koebl's middle school coach, but they don't talk on any kind of regular basis.

I think someone made the point that no coach worth ten cents would casually express disappointment in any of his players.  I agree, emphatically.

I wouldn't go as far to say Carroll (I haven't seen St. Norb's) is on par with the Top 3 WIAC teams, but you can't totally disregard them either.  I mean, they did beat Point and Norbs did beat Platteville.

I know one thing, Carroll is for real.  Yeah, they had early season loss to La Crosse, a blowout loss to Whitewater and a mid-December OT loss to Oshkosh.  But, they have two stud guards that probably match any WIAC team.  They have a serviceable big man in Josh Gould who is actually a football player (255 lbs) and a solid forward in Nate Zimmerman.  I don't know anything about Kyle Jones, but all 5 players average double digits in scoring...

I wouldn't be too excited if any of the WIAC teams have to play Carroll in the NCAAs...or St. Norb's for that matter.

I think it should have been "Chief" the Indian....but that war has been fought.

EVERYTHING up here is some kind of Buzz: all the newsletters on campus are something Buzz; the hair salon down the street is the Buzz, where I suspect their blue-pate special is a buzz cut; the newspaper's semi-irregular UWS column is the Buzz. The one diversion: the campus newspaper went from being the Promethean--which I thought sounded cultured and thoughtful--to The Stinger. I'm pretty sure our mascot is Buzz or Buzzy or Buzzed; but, who knows. If you're looking for originality, you won't necessarily find it on a college campus. Lowest common denominator usually wins.

Last time I stayed there coming back from a Canadian fishing trip we got really buzzed.  But i digress.

We have a hockey player named Talon Berlando. His name replaced my previous favorite: Colin Guiguet (Gee-gay).

Talk about digressing...
