Good stats fellas, pretty impressive, but not very managable with an I-Phone :(

Looking at the body of work and the number of bids, I don't see any reason why 3 teams from the WIAC are not in the tourney.  I don't remember the year we got 4 in and how good those teams were, but now that I looked back and saw the tourney history, we do pretty good in that matter.

Just hope we get into a good region or section, but no home game for us this year.  I went to the Loras game and watched also the matchup before that one and also the one after that, and it's pretty neat to see the tourney come to our gym.  Will have to watch monday where everybody ends up.

GREAT YEAR, GO HAWKS!!!

Great game, caught the last 10 minutes of it. Hanson had a good look at the end from the way it sounded per Point radio.

Points in...Platteville will get in...Whitewater should

From 1975-1978, there were 14 first round games (with 2 byes).  To my understanding, these were played at centralized Regional locations.  There then was a Regional championship (Like our current Sweet 16) and also a Regional 3rd place game.  I don't know where the Quarter Finals would ave been played... perhaps at the Championship location?  30 teams.

From 1979-1988, there were 16 first round games (got rid of the two byes), placed at centralized Regional locations with Regional Championship games and Regional 3rd place games.  36 teams

The regionals were hosted by the top-ranked team in the region. The quarterfinals rotated between regions.

Heard on the radio that it's the women's year to get first dibs in hosting the 1st/2nd round game(s).  So, if the women also get to host, they have preference.

Great win for Point! Lets hope the WIAC can do some damage in the Big Dance.

If Whitewater doesn't get in, it would be horrible. Although, it would be funny to see Pat Miller coach in the NAIA... HAHAHA...

ATTENTION PLATTEVILLE AND WHITEWATER...I'D START SWEATING IF I WERE YOU.

Farmingdale State got upset in the SKY Final today
Top ranked Ithaca (in the East Region) got beat today
St. Lawrence got beat in the Liberty League Final today
Top ranked St. Mary's (Md) (in the Middle Atlantic Region) lost yesterday
Top ranked Worcester Tech (in the Northeast Region) lost today

Those are SIX Pool C bids out the window now.

Also, Bethel is down 2 to top ranked St. Thomas (in the West Region) at half time and Elmhurst is beating top ranked Wheaton (IL) (in the Midwest Region)
Update when results come in.

I left out the regular season records so it fits.

RED means they have lost, regular season/conference tourney is complete and they are Pool C eligible.

BLUE means they have won the Pool A bid from their respective conference

Mr. Ypsi

Tom,

You are such an alarmist! :D

Even though the criteria don't leave much room for common sense, I'd say Platteville and Whitewater are in before several of those teams.  I'd expect they are off the boards by the tenth pick (at worst).

Agreed.  Both are in.

Save the drama, Tom.

Greek Tragedy

Based on previous tourneys, the sectionals that involve the WIAC teams are basically the West Region, Midwest Region, South (west part) Region and also involved the very west part of the Great Lakes Region.  Thats what happened in 2007 with Hope and Calvin coming to Aurora along with U of Chicago.  South Region teams that have come up to play have been DePauw and Trinity (TX)

A year before that Hope and Calvin thrown in the Great Lakes Region with all of the Ohio teams.  That was the year the WIAC had three teams in it and La Crosse went to Hope with WLC.  Whitewater was more in the Midwest and Stout in the West bracket.  WW and ST could've met in the Elite 8 and then met La Crosse in the Final in Salem had they all kept winning.

With that said, here's kind of an estimate of teams the WIAC teams could face:

The MIAA is most likely only getting one team in with Hope upsetting Calvin in the conference finals.  They are 3rd in the Great Lakes Region behind Capital (who will go pretty fast in Pool C selections) and Carnegie Mellon.  Probably don't have to worry about two teams traveling north to Michigan to be visitors to the Hope/Calvin battle.

The Midwest is muddled with Wheaton (CCIW), Washington U (UAA), Transylvania (HCAC), Lawrence (MWC), Aurora (NathCon) and Fontbonne (SLIAC) all getting Pool As along with, most likely, Elmhurst as a Pool C.

Lastly, the West Region teams would be St. Thomas (MIAC), Stevens Point (WIAC), Cornell (IIAC), Whitworth (NWC), and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps/Ponoma-Pitzer winner (SCIAC) the Pool As. The UMAC doesn't look like it gets a Pool A and there isn't any talk of any of those teams getting a Pool B, or Pool C for that matter.  Add to those AQs, you'll get Puget Sound, Whitewater and Platteville and possibly Buena Vista.  Independent Chapman may also get a Pool B bid.

I would guess the West Region quad would be set as the SCIAC winner, possibly Chapman and both NWC reps playing.  If Chapman doesn't get in, then the SCIAC winner plays Whitworth with Puget Sound getting the winner.

There are four byes this year and Wheaton, Washington U, St. Thomas and Stevens Point are all worth.  Due to costs and geographics, UPS gets one if Chapman doesn't get a Pool B bid.  I don't see our full sectional getting 3 of those byes and Point probably won't host since the women have preference in odd years and the Point women are a good shot to host.

Hope and Transylvania can head to the Great Lakes region area.

So, you could have Lawrence, Aurora, Whitewater going to Wheaton.  I think Wash. U could host Fontbonne, Cornell and possibly Stevens Point.  It could be Platteville, Elmhurst and Buena Visa going to St. Thomas.

Lawrence
Aurora
Whitewater
Wheaton*

Washington U*
Fontbonne
Cornell
Stevens Point

Platteville
Elmhurst
Buena Vista
St. Thomas*

Those are some tough quads, but I'm a homer and wanted to split up the WIAC teams and had to not have Point host.  I split up all the conferences with multiple teams (WIAC, CCIW and IIAC).  I put Fontbonne with Washington U because they are both in St. Louis.  I realize there aren't any byes for top teams like Point, Wheaton or Washington U...so if I did, I'd have to send some of those eastern Midwest Region teams east to the Great Lakes region.

I was going to say the most likely senario was putting both Cornell and Buena Vista in the same quad and have them meet in the 2nd round, but they did split Loras (to Whitewater) and Buena Vista (to St. Thomas) last year.

Note to Clear Channel boss:Thanks for a great assisgnment.  Got to make my second trip this week to Stevens Point yesterday to cover the Blugold/Point women's game.  I'm on the men's board because we came early and watched a great game.  We talked about how these games may not be as intense as they might be if all 4 of these teams were not already in the national tournament.  Boy were we wrong.  Great atmosphere, intensity, and college basketball at its best.  Anyone who would be critical of the conference tournament week (and I have been), was not at Bennett Court or Berg gym yesterday.  Also, a word about the Pointer fans, game workers, SID, AD, and coaches.  You guys run a first class operation.  It was a pleasure to be here.

Also, we had Gary Karner on our radio show Sat. morning (and Jack Bennett)  and when I saw Gary at Point later in the day he asked me if the ratings for the show were way up today.  I told him that, yes, they are always up when Jack is on. 8)

The Roop

A few years ago there was always the unwritten understanding that if the SCAIC got two in that they would be facing each other in the first round. Then when the field expanded the NCAA hinted that they would try to avoid 1st round conference match ups. Even changed the bracket recently to accommodate that intention.

I have no problem with the "projected" teams in but I really can't see a Puget Sound-Whitworth rematch in the first round. Nor do I see a bye for UT-Dallas as that's the only way they could get to the second round. The bracket isn't going to be as balanced as the D3 staff makes it; it never is unfortunately.

Greek Tragedy

If I were to rate those brackets, Platteville is in a killer one.  Wheaton, Wash. U and Lawrence.  Yeah, some of you might laugh at Lawrence being mentioned, but I somewhat follow the MWC and they've been killing teams in the last half of the season.  For most, the victory over Point is a past memory, but they've destroyed St. Norb's twice and Carroll twice.  True, both teams had been plagued by injuries, but LU is kind of like Point when it comes to tough defense and solid ball-control offense.  Lawrence is capable of doing some damage, despite who's in their bracket.

I really don't know anything about the southern teams, but Trinity took Point into OT this year and though Cal. Lutheran isn't in the tourney (they beat Point last year or the year before), CMS comes from the same conference.  I'm not going to totally discount that bracket because I don't know anything about it, but knowing Whitewater, they could come out of that.

I give Point a favorable draw.  St. Thomas is undefeated, I realize, but I don't consider the MIAC very strong at all.  St. Thomas also hosted last year and lost in the first round to Buena Vista.  Yeah, this isn't last year, but until St. Thomas does some damage on a yearly basis in the NCAAs, I may question their legitimacy.  UPS is good but not great in my opinion.  Obviously I haven't seen them play this year and base my opinion on previous results.  Aurora was a big surprise out of a pretty weak conference of the NathCon and Cornell is a big surprise out of a top heavy IIAC that includes bubble team Buena Vista.  Elmhurst is the bigger threat here, not St. Thomas...sorry Tommie fans.
